Who Is Saquib Nachan? ISIS-Linked Terror Accused Dies In Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital
Saquib Abdul Hamid Nachan, an accused with alleged links to the terror outfit Islamic State (ISIS), passed away at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. He was convicted for his involvement in the bomb blasts in Mumbai in 2002 and 2003.
Nachan, a former member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), died during brain stroke treatment, the Tihar Jail authorities informed on Saturday, as per IANS.
Who Is Saquib Nachan?
As per the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Saquib Nachan was a habitual offender in several previous terror cases and was also a self-styled Amir-e-Hind for ISIS in India.
He first came under the scanner in 1991 and was later arrested for plotting terror strikes in Gujarat. In the late 1990s, the Supreme Court convicted him of terrorist activities, and he was convicted for orchestrating three bomb blasts in Mumbai between December 2002 and March 2003- in Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund. Found guilty of several acts, including murder, arms and explosives possession, he received a 10-year sentence until 2017.
According to IANS, Nachan (65) was also accused of declaring a village in Maharashtra's Thane district as 'Al Sham', referring to it as an independent Islamic-ruled territory.
Saquib Nachan In Jail
ANI on Saturday reported, citing sources, that Nachan died in the Delhi Hospital and added that he had been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since 2023 and was admitted to the hospital a few days ago.
NIA's Chargesheet
In June 2024, the NIA had charge-sheeted Saquib Nachan along with 16 other hardcore operatives of the banned terror group in connection with the Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module case. The charges involved a wide-ranging conspiracy to recruit and radicalise youth, and fabricate improvised IEDs.
The accused were booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A), the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act. The arrested individuals were part of a major plot to indoctrinate vulnerable youth, train them in terror activities, and raise funds for the banned organisation.
Investigations revealed that Nachan and his associates had been sharing digital files related to IED-making, actively raising funds, and carrying out preparatory acts for possible terrorist strikes across the country.

NAPM alleges illegal eviction drive in Nabarangpur; collector claims revenue records checked
Bhubaneswar: A team of National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM), Odisha unit, has alleged the govt carried out illegal eviction from four villages of Nabarangpur district, leaving many tribal, dalit, OBC and other forest-dependent families homeless. The team, led by activist Prafulla Samantara, said on Wednesday that they visited the affected villages on June 19 and documented evidence of widespread demolitions and forced evictions in Hatibadi under Jharigaon tehsil, Mendabeda under Umerkote tehsil, Chacharaghati under Chandahandi tehsil, and Lakhanpur under Raighar tehsil. He said they met governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Tuesday and urged him to intervene in the matter. "Nabarangpur district is designated as a Fifth Schedule area. Despite clear provisions under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996, and Article 21 of the Constitution, these evictions were conducted without due notice or legal process and without the consent of gram sabhas," he added. Samantara said several villagers filed FRA claims, and these are pending before the govt. "The evictions violated the Supreme Court's stay order in the 'wildlife first' case and disregarded procedural guidelines laid out in the Roy Burman and Nandini Sundar judgments. Targeting of SC/ST communities also raises serious concerns under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989," he added. Sandip Patnaik, a team member, said the forest and revenue departments conducted the eviction drives so they can carry out plantations. "As they are residents, they need land pattas and houses under the rural housing scheme. At least the departments could have rehabilitated them before carrying out demolition. The poor are staying under the open sky during the rainy season," he added. The team demanded an immediate halt to all ongoing evictions in Nabarangpur and other scheduled areas and called for a high-level judicial or independent probe. "Action should be taken against officials involved in the eviction drive," said Manas Patnaik, another member. Nabarangpur collector Subhankar Mohapatra said they cleared illegal encroachments after checking the revenue records. "Whatever FRA claims were submitted by the people, those are under discussion in consultative committees concerned on the Forest Rights Act," he added. He said they will take action if the houses of people who filed FRA claims were demolished. "But we took all necessary steps, including issuing notices to people, before clearing the encroachments," the collector said.

Students Protest Against Fee Exploitation by Private Schools in Aiza Mandal.
Gadwal: In a bold show of resistance, several student organizations came together today to protest against the alleged fee exploitation and irregularities being carried out by private schools in Aiza Mandal of the Alampur constituency, Jogulamba Gadwal district. The protest rally, which began at Telangana Chowrasta and concluded at the New Bus Stand, saw students raising slogans and holding placards condemning what they described as "commercialization of education." Following the rally, a delegation of student leaders submitted a memorandum to the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), urging immediate intervention and strict action against erring schools, particularly Sri Krishnaveni Private School, which was singled out for multiple violations. Key Allegations and Demands Student leaders alleged that private schools in the region were collecting exorbitant and unregulated fees, in clear violation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and existing fee regulation laws. They claimed that: Sri Krishnaveni School was forcing parents to purchase uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks at inflated prices from a shop operated illegally beside the school. The school's management had set up a fake certificate-backed book center and was openly selling books on the roadside, yet no action was taken by education officials despite earlier complaints to the District Collector. The Mandal Education Officer (MEO) allegedly ignored direct instructions from the District Education Officer (DEO) to seize the illegal book stock, and even remarked that he would only take action "if provided protection." Furthermore, the students claimed that: Bonafide and Transfer Certificates (TCs) were being issued only after collecting up to ₹2,000 from Class 10 students. The school fee for Class 10 was increased from ₹28,000 in the academic year 2024–25 to ₹34,000 for 2025–26 without any justification. School staff, including drivers and teachers, were reportedly forced by the management to protest in front of the MEO office, allegedly with the support of the MEO himself. Alleged Assault and Demand for Action The situation further escalated when student union leaders visited another school, Sri Chaitanya, after receiving reports about similar irregularities. They were allegedly assaulted by men linked to Krishnaveni School owner Madhusudan Reddy, who reportedly sent his drivers to threaten and attack the students. Demanding justice, the protestors urged the authorities to: Suspend the MEO for negligence and bias. Cancel the recognition of Sri Krishnaveni School for repeated violations. File criminal charges against the school owner Madhusudan Reddy and the individuals involved in the assault. Enforce the RTE Act to ensure that 25% of seats are reserved for underprivileged students. Implement and monitor the Fee Regulation Act across the district to protect parents from financial exploitation. Leaders and Organizations Involved. Man marrying & harassing minor held under Pocso
Nashik: The Bhadrakali police arrested a man (25) on Friday evening for marrying a minor girl and harassing her. The arrest was made under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanahita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The Bhadrakali police stated that the victim (17) registered a complaint with them on Friday evening. According to the complainant, her father-in-law threatened her parents to marry their minor daughter to his son. The father-in-law wielded immense influence in their community. After the forced marriage, the complainant's husband maintained physical relations with her, after which she became pregnant and gave birth to a boy on June 1. Meanwhile, the husband and his four other relatives continued to harass her physically. The police said, "After the girl returned to her parents, she decided to register a complaint against her husband and the other 4 relatives. We took action and arrested her husband. However, his parents and four other accused are yet to be traced and arrested." Apart from the charges under Pocso, the police have registered a case against the accused for rape, abduction, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the BNS. The police are also investigating where the girl delivered the baby and why doctors did not raise alarm over her age.
