Tamika Catchings, WNBPA and 2K team up for Riverside rebirth

Axios3 days ago
One of the most meaningful basketball courts Tamika Catchings has ever stepped foot on has been given a fresh start to inspire a new generation of Indy ballers and philanthropists.
Why it matters: The refurbished court at Riverside Park is the latest improvement for the long-underutilized Indy attraction spanning both sides of the White River.
The court was funded by 2K Foundations, the charitable arm of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.
Driving the news: Catchings, Indiana Fever guard Sydney Colson, WNBPA executive director Terri Jackson and 2K's head of lifestyle and content marketing Ronnie 2K gathered with the community for a court unveiling Thursday morning.
Flashback: The court is special to Catchings because it is where she hosted her first youth basketball camp in December 2001 after being sidelined with a torn ACL.
In addition to basketball skills, the free camp taught children about philanthropy by asking them to bring in canned goods that would be donated to Gleaners as their price for admission.
"This is where it all began. So it's always going to have a big place in my heart, and it's somewhere that I wanted to come back to," Catchings told Axios.
Similar to Catchings championing philanthropy 24 years ago, 2K Foundations has leveraged the massive brand identity established by the NBA2K games to reinforce the importance of doing good.
"That's what this is really about … trying to inspire the next generation to fall in love with basketball, just like I did as a kid, and then be able to pay it back down the road," Ronnie 2K said.
What's new: Riverside's court now features an official WNBA three-point line, a nod to the WNBA's "Line 'Em Up" effort to bring regulation three-point lines to community courts across the country.
The bottom line: For the kids who will play at Riverside, and for Catchings, this is much more than a court; it's a symbol of endless possibility.
"It really is about dreaming big. You're bigger than this neighborhood," Catchings said. "And yes, come back to the neighborhood. Never forget where you came from. But know that whatever you want to achieve or wherever you want to go, you've got people that want to help you succeed."

Indiana Fever update Caitlin Clark injury status, availability vs New York Liberty

With the 2025 WNBA All-Star break concluded, the Indiana Fever provided an injury status update to star Caitlin Clark entering their Tuesday night matchup against the New York Liberty from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Clark, who suffered a right groin injury late in the Fever's July 15 victory over the Connecticut Sun, missed Indiana's blowout loss against the Liberty last Wednesday and opted out of the entire All-Star weekend to focus on her recovery. According to head coach Stephanie White, the Fever do not anticipate Clark being made available when they take the floor in Brooklyn on Tuesday. "I haven't seen C [Clark] since the game last night, but I think she's progressing. I think that we're continuing to address everything that needs to be addressed. She's going to see some doctors and get some more tests done early in the week. "I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to continue to take it one day at a time and let her get her evaluation early this week. Once we've done that, hopefully we'll have more of a clear mind of what it looks like," White said of Clark's status. With Clark most likely unavailable for Indiana, the team will need to rely heavily on Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston to bear the load on offense with impactful contributions off the bench for the time being. Indiana's Tuesday night clash with New York will tip off at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN. ESPN host's off-color joke during WNBA All-Star broadcast draws mixed reactions from viewers

The WNBA All-Star Game's high-offensive output led ESPN host Elle Duncan to say something many viewed as quite crude on live television. It's not uncommon to see a lack of defense in a basketball All-Star Game, no matter if it's the WNBA or the NBA. But Duncan had an interesting way to describe that side of the game at halftime during ABC's broadcast on Saturday night. "We hope it gets a little bit more competitive," Duncan started off after watching Napheesa Collier's team put up 82 puts to Caitlin Clark's squad's 60 in the first half. "Because like a girls' trip to Cancun, right now, there's no D." ESPN analyst Chiney Ogwumike quickly said, "Elle, you're in timeout. You're done." Then, the broadcast went to commercial. After the one-liner found its way working through social media, there were a few who didn't like Duncan's humor. "Add this to a long list of why no one takes @WNBA or @espn seriously," one X user said under a video of Duncan, posted by Awful Announcing. "If Shane Gillis said that, they'd try to cancel him," another wrote, referencing the comedian's ESPYs monologue that turned heads this past week. When the second half eventually started, there was more offense than defense yet again, as Collier led the way with 36 points to help her squad beat Clark's, 151-131, to win the All-Star Game. Clark didn't play in the game, as she continues to nurse a groin injury that has been nagging throughout this 2025 WNBA season. She suffered it on Tuesday against the Connecticut Sun, which forced her to be sidelined for the Indiana Fever during their game against the New York Liberty on Wednesday. The WNBA second half will kick off on Tuesday after All-Star festivities this weekend. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
