Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter recently suggested that Atlanta Braves closer Raisel Iglesias would be one of the best "buy low" trade targets of the season.
"Raisel Iglesias was one of the best relievers in baseball in 2024, converting 34 of 38 save chances with a 1.95 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 2.9 WAR over 66 appearances in his third season with the Atlanta Braves," Reuter wrote. "That All-Star nod won't be coming this year, as he has struggled to the point of losing his hold on the ninth-inning job in favor of more of a committee approach.
"However, his track record still makes him an appealing buy-low candidate. The 35-year-old is still generating a strong 36.5 percent whiff rate with his signature changeup and is averaging 94.5 mph with his fastball. The stuff is there for him to be a useful bullpen addition to a contender."

Kevin D. Liles/While Reuter didn't connect Iglesias to any specific landing spot, the Detroit Tigers could make sense as a suitor ahead of the trade deadline.
Detroit is one of the better teams in baseball, and the roster should only get better down the stretch. With one of the best farm systems in the league, the Tigers could land a few huge trades without crippling their future.
Detroit's bullpen has been solid. Will Vest and Tommy Kahnle have been excellent this season, but the Tigers could use another high-leverage arm at the backend of games.
Adding Iglesias would take some of the pressure off the veteran's shoulders while moving him to an easier role as a setup man. It's not the kind of trade the Tigers need to make, but with how much prospect talent they have, it's a deal they can afford to make.

Cubs Predicted To Cut Ties With Offseason Trade Acquisition This Season

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Cubs are loaded with talent, but they're expected to acquire more talented players before the trade deadline. If the Cubs are going to go trade for two or three players to add to the active roster, they're also going to have to cut a few players on the team right now. While this is typically a tough decision, the Cubs have an obvious candidate to be designated for assignment: utility man Vidal Brujan. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently predicted the Cubs would cut ties with Brujan in the coming weeks, too. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - JUNE 08: A detail of a Chicago Cubs logo on a helmet against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on June 08, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan."Small sample, sure, but Brujan has been on the active roster since mid-April when he was activated off the IL and has started a total of six games," Rotman wrote. "Yes, he's essentially started two games per month for half the season, which is absurd. For the most part, he's either entered a game as a defensive replacement, a pinch-runner, or as a pinch-hitter in a blowout. "Brujan can play a variety of positions, which is valuable, but what else does he offer? He has a .389 OPS this season and a .522 OPS in parts of five MLB seasons, so he can't really hit. He's known for having good speed, but he's stolen only 16 bases in 30 attempts in his career, has gone 2-for-3 this season, and ranks in the 42nd percentile in sprint speed according to Baseball Savant." The Cubs acquired Brujan in a trade during the offseason, but it never really made much sense. He doesn't excel at anything, and Chicago's lineup is way too loaded with talent for Brujan to ever earn any regular playing time. Cutting him seems like the obvious move. He's likely going to be the first player to go from the roster when the Cubs begin making their big trade deadline acquisitions that everybody seemingly expects them to make. The Liberty stars were taken off the board early by separate captains during Tuesday's 2025 WNBA All-Star draft on ESPN's pregame show ahead of the Liberty-Aces matchup. All-Star captain Napheesa Collier picked her former UConn teammate and fellow Unrivaled co-founder, Stewart, with the No. 2 pick. Fellow captain Caitlin Clark decided to take Ionescu off the board with the No. 3 pick, saying that she's a 'big fan of Sab.' Clark also initiated a stunning, and unprecedented, trade toward the end of the All-Star draft, as she suggested the two teams swap coaches. Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu, left, and forward Breanna Stewart greet each other after it was announced they would be All-Star starters. Heather Khalifa for the NY Post Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was supposed to head Clark's team, and Liberty coach Sandy Brondello was at the helm of Collier's. Collier accepted the trade, meaning Brondello will coach Ionescu against Stewart in Indianapolis for the July 19 showcase. Clark did make a push at the end to bring Stewart to her team. 'If you want to send Stewie over, I'll take her,' said Clark, who offered Satou Sabally. Collier thought about it for a minute before telling Clark to 'sweeten the deal.' Clark countered by encouraging Collier to propose a trade that would unite Stewart, Ionescu and Brondello. Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty during the second half against the Seattle Storm. Getty Images 'To make this spicy.… You have to give me your No. 1 overall pick and your teammate Aliyah Boston,' Collier said. 'Absolutely not,' Clark immediately said. 'I don't even think Phee meant that. I think she just wanted to see me react.' Clark said she was picking her team off 'vibes' and wanted to have fun. Clark's full roster included: Boston and Kelsey Mitchell (Fever), A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young (Aces), Satou Sabally (Mercury), Gabby Williams (Storm), Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen (Mystics), and Kayla Thornton (Valkyries.) Meanwhile, Collier used the national TV time to represent and shout out Unrivaled as much as possible. Collier, who was wearing an Unrivaled shirt, picked several of her Lunar Owls teammates — including Allisha Gray (Dream), Skylar Diggins (Storm) and Courtney Williams (Lynx.) Collier's roster also features Nneka Ogwumike (Storm), Paige Bueckers (Wings), Angel Reese (Sky), Alyssa Thomas (Mercury), Kelsey Plum (Sparks) and Rhyne Howard (Dream.) Collier and Stewart played one season together at UConn before the latter was drafted No. 1 in 2016. This is Stewart's seventh All-Star recognition and Ionescu's fourth. Brondello is making her first All-Star appearance as a coach since 2018.

Reds lefty Andrew Abbott named NL All-Star, replacing Dodgers' Yamamoto

Associated Press CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott is an All-Star after all. Abbott, who's 7-1 with a 2.15 ERA in 15 starts, was named as a replacement Tuesday for the Los Angeles Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who's ineligible to pitch since he's scheduled to start Sunday. It's the first All-Star nod for the 26-year-old Abbott, who was informed during Tuesday night's game against the Miami Marlins and high-fived and hugged teammates in the dugout. Shortstop Elly De La Cruz is Cincinnati's other All-Star. Abbott's ERA would be the fourth best in the majors if he had pitched enough innings to qualify. A pitcher must have at least one inning pitched per games played by his team. The Reds have played 92 games and Abbott has tossed 83 2/3 innings since making his season debut on April 12 after suffering a left shoulder strain in spring training. ___ AP MLB: recommended Item 1 of 3
