Lamborghini's long-anticipated shift to electrification is undergoing a strategic rethink. While the brand has made bold proclamations about going electric, the reality of customer sentiment appears to be pulling it in a different direction—one that's less about full EVs and more about hybrid performance.
The Urus EV, which had been expected to spearhead the electrification charge, has itself been pushed back as Lamborghini realigns its electrification strategy. Urus EV Timeline Pushed Back, Hybrid Takes Priority
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann recently affirmed that the all-electric version of the Urus SUV will no longer come as soon as it was initially scheduled. Instead, a next-generation Urus will debut as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), reflecting what Winkelmann described as a decision that will 'make our customers very happy." According to him, the hybrid version better aligns with the expectations of Lamborghini's clientele, who continue to prize performance and emotional driving experiences—attributes not easily replicated in current EVs.

Though Winkelmann did not confirm an exact launch date, hints suggest the second-generation Urus could debut around 2029. A fully electric Urus, if it happens at all, is unlikely to arrive before 2035, giving Lamborghini ample time to monitor changes in global regulations, charging infrastructure, and consumer attitudes. Lanzador EV Also Faces Potential Delay
Lamborghini's electrification ambitions aren't limited to the Urus. The Lanzador concept, unveiled at the 2023 Monterey Car Week, was introduced as a preview of the brand's fourth production model and first full EV. A futuristic 2+2 crossover with dual-motor AWD and a sustainable-material interior, the Lanzador was initially scheduled for launch by 2028.
However, that timeline is now uncertain. Winkelmann indicated that a final decision on its production schedule will be made in early 2026, though he remains optimistic about a late-decade debut.

Lamborghini isn't alone in grappling with the supercar EV dilemma. The likes of Ferrari and Lotus have also encountered resistance from loyal customers who are understandably reluctant to embrace fully electric powertrains. For companies based on emotional performance and their specific engine notes, an evolution into a silent, torque-rich EV raises branding and experience hurdles.
Meanwhile, Lamborghini will keep diversifying the Urus range with a PHEV version of the Urus Performante, merging electrification with driving passion that marks the brand. Whether or not the Urus EV ever takes to the road, Lamborghini is sending a message loud and clear: the future might be electric, but the heart of the raging bull won't go unheard just yet.

Lewis Hamilton reunites with former engineer to address performance issues at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton (Image credit: Instagram) Lewis Hamilton's struggles at Ferrari since his move to the Italian team continue to impact both his image and performance in Formula 1. His confusing radio exchanges with his race engineer during races had caught the attention of many, suggesting that communication between the two was less than ideal. Now, Hamilton has reportedly been assigned a new race engineer — someone he has worked with before. Lewis Hamilton gets new race engineer he has worked before According to a report by The Mirror, Ferrari has hired a new race engineer who has previously worked with Lewis Hamilton. However, it is not clear whether the engineer is someone Hamilton collaborated with during his time at Mercedes. The report also claims that Riccardo Adami — the Ferrari engineer who came under scrutiny for unclear radio communication with Hamilton — continues to remain in his role. Lewis Hamilton's performance at Belgian Grand Prix Questions persist about Hamilton's performance at Ferrari, especially as his teammate Charles Leclerc secured third place on the podium at the Belgian Grand Prix — his fifth podium of the season. Hamilton had a disappointing outing at the Belgian Grand Prix, getting eliminated in Q1 ahead of both the F1 Sprint and the main race. He eventually finished seventh in the Sunday race at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. He wrote in his latest Instagram post after the Belgium race, "Pit lane to P7 - We were faced with some difficult moments so to finish on a high note gives me real confidence heading into Budapest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Live Comfortably: 60m2 prefabricated bungalow for the elderly in Setif Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo Big thanks to everyone at the track for the massive effort, and the team back at Maranello for their continued hard work. This upgrade is a really positive step forward and I'm excited to explore it more next week. Now time to build momentum from here. " He apologized to his team over the radio after the Q1 exit, saying: "Sorry about this weekend, guys, losing you points. I'll work harder to come back stronger at the next race. Great job on the strategy and pit stops." Reflecting on his performance, Hamilton said, as per ESPN, "I think everyone in the team worked so hard. We obviously had these upgrades. Everyone back in the factory worked so hard. And then when you come and put in a performance like I had in these past two days, it's tough because that's not what the team deserves. It wasn't a case of necessarily coming in and not being in the right mindset through the weekend." "There were a few factors that affected things, particularly on Friday. Saturday was just me. But I recovered today. I got some points. We outscored Mercedes on points, which is great. Charles did a great job. Clearly, the car is improving because Charles was able to hold on to another podium. So I'm still going to work hard next week," he added. Oscar Piastri wins rain-delayed Belgian Grand Prix, extends Drivers' Championship lead over McLaren teammate Lando Norris

Oscar Piastri extended his lead in the Formula 1 2025 Drivers' Championship by 16 points after winning the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of McLaren teammate Lando Norris. read more Oscar Piastri passed McLaren teammate and title rival Lando Norris with a bold early move to win the rain-delayed Belgian Grand Prix and extend his Formula One lead to 16 points on Sunday. Charles Leclerc was a distant third for Ferrari as reigning champions McLaren celebrated their sixth one-two finish in 13 races and the third in a row The race at Spa-Francorchamps was red-flagged after an initial formation lap and delayed by an hour and 20 minutes due to the weather, with standing water and heavy spray affecting visibility. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Piastri was in no mood for hanging around when the racing got going with a rolling start after four laps behind the safety car to check conditions. The Australian slipstreamed Norris through the daunting Eau Rouge and then scythed past down the Kemmel straight into Les Combes in a move of total commitment in the treacherous conditions. 'I knew lap one would be my best chance of winning the race. I got a good exit out of Turn One, lifted as little as I dared out of Eau Rouge,' he said. 'The rest of the race we managed really well. I struggled at the end. Maybe the mediums were not the best for the last five or six laps. We had it mostly under control.' The win was his sixth of the season, making the 24-year-old the first Australian – on a list that includes past world champions Jack Brabham and Alan Jones – to triumph so many times in a single campaign. Norris had a slight battery issue, the Briton asking over the radio why he had 'no pack' before his race engineer assured him it was coming back, but he was not looking for any excuses afterwards. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Oscar just did a good job. Nothing more to say. Committed a bit more through Eau Rouge, and had the slipstream and got the run,' he said. 'So nothing to complain of. He did a better job in the beginning, and that was it. Nothing more I could do after that point. I would love to be up top, but Oscar deserved it today.' TWO-HORSE RACE Piastri now has 266 points to Norris' 250. Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen is third but 81 points off the lead and the championship more than ever a two-horse race with Hungary up next weekend before the August break. McLaren lead the constructors' standings with 516 points to Ferrari's 248 while Mercedes fell further behind their Italian rivals on 220. Piastri pitted on lap 12 of 44 to switch from intermediates to medium tyres on a drying track and Norris followed a lap later, but opting for the hards and rejoining nine seconds behind. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Briton might have hoped Piastri would have to pit again but the Australian made the tyres last to the chequered flag on a one-stop strategy. Piastri crossed the line 3.415 seconds clear of Norris, who had been chasing a third win in a row and managed to reduce the gap in the final laps before late mistakes left the ever-calm Australian under no pressure. Saturday sprint winner Verstappen finished fourth in his team's first grand prix since the dismissal of team boss Christian Horner, with George Russell fifth for Mercedes. Williams' Alex Albon held off Ferrari's seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton – last year's winner with Mercedes – to secure sixth. Hamilton had been one of four drivers due to start from the pit lane but given a big boost by the switch to a rolling getaway and a fresh engine installed overnight. The Briton was also the first to make the decision to switch to slicks and pit, gaining six places. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Liam Lawson was eighth for Racing Bulls with Gabriel Bortoleto ninth for Sauber and Pierre Gasly securing the final point for Alpine.

'A Weekend To Forget But...': Lewis Hamilton Leaves Spa-Francorchamps On High

Last Updated: Lewis Hamilton finished seventh at Belgian Grand Prix after starting from pit lane and praised team's strategy and pit stop execution. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has said that although the Belgian Grand Prix weekend was one to forget, he would take a lot of positives from the Ferrari on Sunday, July 27, when he finished a creditable seventh after starting way below in the race. Four drivers began from the pit lane, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Antonelli and Hamilton, having made changes to their power units or set-up overnight. They started at the rear of the field ahead of the rolling start at the start of lap 5 but that was a big strategic call that bore fruit. Alex Albon clung on to finish sixth for Williams ahead of chasing Hamilton of Ferrari, who began from the pit lane and Racing Bulls' rookie Liam Lawson. 'Today's race was a positive step forward. The strategy and pit stop were executed perfectly and the overnight changes we made to the setup allowed me to get the most out of the car," Hamilton said while speaking to Formula One's website. 'I felt much more comfortable behind the wheel and I'm pleased with how everything came together," Hamilton added. On lap 12, Hamilton was the first in for medium slick tyres, rejoining 18th, followed by Oscar Piastri, Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Andre Russell and more. Lando Norris stayed out one lap longer for hards, hoping to profit if his rival's rubber degraded in the closing laps. The only pit stop, executed in just 2.2 seconds, was one of the fastest of the day. By lap 15, everyone else had switched to mediums and it was Piastri on top ahead of Norris by 9.3 with Leclerc third, leading Verstappen, Russell, Albon and in flying form, Hamilton. Piastri went on to win the race, with Norris second and Leclerc third. World champion Verstappen finished fourth. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
