Rising atrocities against tribals & Dalits in Bihar a grave concern: CM

1 2 Ranchi: A day after five members of a family were burnt alive in election-bound Bihar, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who is looking after his ailing father Shibu Soren at a Delhi hospital, said he cannot keep quiet when Dalits and poor people are tortured. In the Bihar incident, a mob lynched five members of a tribal family and later burnt them alive in Purnia late on Sunday night charging them with witchcraft. Taking to X, Hemant appealed to his Bihar counterpart, Nitish Kumar, to stake strict action against the perpetrators. "I urge the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri @NitishKumar ji, to issue directives to take appropriate steps to swiftly apprehend the culprits and ensure they receive the most stringent punishment. The continuously increasing atrocities on tribals/Dalits in Bihar are a matter of grave concern." In Ranchi, Hemant's party JMM, too, expressed shock and grave concern over the situation. Mounting pressure on BJP, which is part of alliance govt led by Nitish Kumar (JDU) in Bihar, JMM's general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharjee said, "Whatever happened in Purnia is part of the spree of attacks on the poor, tribals, marginalised and minorities in places wherever BJP is directly or partly in power. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing you should Ditch over 40 Learn More Undo Bihar is the latest example. " He added that BJP, which is trying to allegedly throw many out of Bihar's voters' list through the ECI's special amendment drive ahead of the election in the neighbouring state, is also using such violent tactics to silence voters, who are against the saffron party. The JMMM leader also questioned the role of the police in the entire episode. "The harrowing incident that happened with the family lasted for several hours — from beating them at one place to burning the five at different place and dumping bodies at another location. What was Bihar police doing all these while?" he said.

Koppal ganja case shifted to Gangavathi, claims Reddy

Gangavathi (Koppal): MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy expressed dissatisfaction regarding the actions of certain politicians, police, and excise officials from Koppal who were trying to undermine the reputation of the Gangavathi constituency. S peaking at a quarterly KDP meeting on Monday, he had spoken about it, which persisted into Tuesday. Reddy was outraged as he claimed those in authority in Koppal were attempting to damage the image of his constituency, which is historically and mythologically significant, with mentions in the Ramayana and the Vijayanagara empire. Reddy indirectly conveyed his anger towards Koppal MP K Rajashekar Hitnal. He also showed his displeasure towards Koppal SP Ram L Arakeri, who he accused of depicting the hydro ganja discovered in Basapur of Koppal taluk as having been confiscated in Gangavathi due to the MP Hitnal's influence. According to Reddy, the Gangavathi police officers, who were not happy regarding the case being transferred to their jurisdiction, did so under the pressure exerted by the MP and SP. "Transferring the ganja case from a neighbouring constituency to Gangavathi is unlawful. I will invite not just local but also national media to expose your motives. While I am diligently working for the development of the historically and mythologically significant Anjanadri and Anegondi areas, you are succumbing to political pressure and damaging the reputation of my constituency," he said, expressing his frustration towards Gangavathi police. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Whenever discussions arise regarding illegal activities, ganja, and drug sales in the state, a perception has been fostered that Gangavathi is the centre of these illegal operations. You are directly accountable for this tarnishing," warned Janardhana Reddy. "Residents from seven or eight villages in my constituency have reported to me that illegal card gambling is going on in their areas. They have informed me that a new gambling method has emerged, where gamblers are placed inside goods carrier vehicles and play while on the move. None of this can occur without police collaboration," Reddy said, articulating his discontent.

In tears, MCM mayor accuses minister of framing husband

Gurgaon: Manesar mayor Inderjeet Kaur Yadav on Monday accused state minister Rao Narbir Singh of falsely implicating her husband in a case of alleged abduction and assault of a councillor's brother. The minister denied the allegations as baseless. A video of the mayor's address at a panchayat meeting in Hayatpur village was circulated widely on social media. In the 1.5-minute clip, the teary-eyed mayor says she and her family have not been able to return home for the past two days because cops are stationed there. "Our local leader, Rao Narbir Singh, along with some other ministers, opposed us greatly, but with your support and the people's backing, I became the first mayor (of Manesar). I want to tell you all that for the past few days… we have been very troubled. We have been roaming in the car… in the case involving councillor Daya Ram's brother, a false case was filed against my husband. Rakesh Hayatpuria was with me at the time of the incident and has no involvement," Kaur is heard saying. "An FIR was registered regarding the case involving the brother of a Manesar councillor, and legal procedures are being followed accordingly. I am not intervening in the ongoing police inquiry or the case," he said. The mayor and her husband Hayatpuria could not be reached for comment till Tuesday evening. The case of abduction and assault was filed by councillor Daya Ram's cousin Pradeep last month. The FIR, dated June 21, names Hayatpuria among the accused. Of the ten Haryana municipal corporations that went to the polls in March this year, Manesar was the only civic body that the BJP did not dominate in. Results showed that 13 out of 20 councillors in MCM House were Independents and the remaining were BJP nominees. BJP eventually gained full majority after seven Independent councillors joined the party in June. Daya Ram, who fought as an Independent, is among the seven. Sources told TOI that Hayatpuria had initially sought a BJP ticket for Kaur, who also claimed to have the backing of Union minister and BJP MP from Gurgaon, Rao Inderjit Singh. But the party went ahead with Narbir Singh-backed Sunder Lal Yadav as its mayoral nominee. Kaur defeated Sunder Lal by 2,293 votes. TOI had reported in the run up to civic polls that the BJP's campaign in Manesar was fractured by this power tussle. While senior BJP functionaries urged voters to elect candidates with clean records —- in apparent reference to Hayatpuria's criminal cases in the past – Union minister Inderjit Yadav stayed away from campaigning in the industrial town. Ram Niwas, a Hayatpur resident who attended the panchayat meeting held by Kaur on Monday, said the mayor was in tears at the gathering. "An Independent mayor is being harassed by a mainstream political party. If the harassment continues, all villages under the jurisdiction of MCM will conduct a mahapanchayat to support our mayor," Niwas said.
