DISHA committee seeks Central probe into Jal Jeevan Mission pipelines in East Godavari
The DISHA committee on Tuesday met for the first time in the current financial year and reviewed the implementation of the Centrally-sponsored prorgrammes and discussed key issues associated with the Central government. The committee comprises MP, MLAs and District Collector.
Speaking to the media after the committee meeting, Ms. Purandeswari said: 'MLAs of the respective assembly constituencies have complained about irregularities in the pipelines laid across the district under the Jal Jeevan Mission. We have decided to ask the Centre to probe into the matter.'
Market for organic products
Ms. Purandeswari also stated that the committee has decided to appeal to the Centre to connect any one of the markets in the district to eNAM (National Agriculture Market), exclusively dedicated for marketing of organic products in the East Godavari district.
The committee has further proposed to appeal the centre for the increase in the man-days of work under the NREGA. The respective officials have been given a target to increase the number of Farmers' Producers Organisations (FPO). Currently, there are 10 FPOs in the East Godavari district.
The issues discussed in the meeting would be sent to the respective Ministries at the Centre. MLC Somu Veerraju, Rajanagaram MLA Battula Balarama Krishna and other MLAs were present.

CPI Thrissur district meet concludes; K.G. Sivanandan new district secretary
A four-day Communist Party of India (CPI) district conference came to a close in Irinjalakuda on Sunday. K.G. Sivanandan has been elected as the new district secretary. The announcement was made by CPI State secretary Binoy Viswam while addressing the elected representatives at the conference. A 57-member district council and 50 representatives to the upcoming CPI State conference were also elected during the meet. The district conference has passed a resolution demanding the reinstatement of the Planning Commission, an institution once crucial to country's balanced development planning, and urged the Centre to uphold its constitutional responsibilities in maintaining healthy Union-State relations. Centre-State relations The resolution alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led administration is deliberately weakening the Centre-State relations and centralising power as part of a larger Sangh Parivar agenda. The discontinuation of the Planning Commission, a body that once played a key advisory role in strategising national development and welfare programmes, was described as a politically motivated move, especially targeted at States where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has little political footing. By replacing the Commission with NITI Aayog and simultaneously denying financial aid to States like Kerala, the Centre is allegedly crippling progressive development models, the party stated. Despite being consistently ranked at the top in indicators like health, education, and social welfare, even in the NITI Aayog's own reports, Kerala is being financially squeezed by the Centre, the resolution claimed. The CPI pointed out that the State has witnessed a shortfall of ₹2,942.29 crore in Central revenue share between 2023 and January 2025 . The 15th Finance Commission's recommendations are being ignored and the ₹12,000 crore annual GST compensation Kerala was entitled to has been discontinued, the conference said. Cultural complex The meet demanded a cultural heritage complex in Thrissur. The resolution pointed out that Thrissur has, for more than half a century, been home to the State's most prestigious official cultural institutions, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, and Lalithakala Akademi, Kerala Kalamandalam and Unnayi Warrier Smaraka Kalanilayam. The district's contribution extends beyond the arts. It is etched into the social and political fabric of modern Kerala through landmark struggles like the Guruvayur Satyagraha, the Kuttan Kulam protest for social justice, the Veloor Manimalarkavu women's liberation movement, the Pariyaram farmers' agitation, and labour movements in Anthikad and Amballur. Thrissur was also the land of action of visionary leaders like E.M.S. Namboodiripad and C. Achutha Menon. In light of this profound cultural, literary, artistic, political, and social heritage, the CPI district conference has urged the Kerala government to establish a comprehensive cultural heritage complex here.

Even her Instagram stories often grab significant attention, let alone her interviews. After her much-delayed visit to her flood-hit parliamentary constituency of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh drew widespread criticism, Kangana's unfiltered admission that she isn't enjoying her first stint as an MP raised further eyebrows. She even described politics as a 'very expensive hobby'. What drew the most criticism, however, was a comment she made during her visit to Mandi, where she stated that she does not have any official Cabinet to provide disaster relief. Recently, the actor-turned-politician went a step further, claiming that even panchayats and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) have larger budgets than Members of Parliament (MPs). Highlighting the establishment of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committees (DISHAs) as a welcome development, she added, 'The job (of an MP) demands a lot of communication. DISHA is a huge step. If we did not have the privilege or power to ask the deputy commissioner or those who clearly work under the state government, it (the position of a parliamentarian) would be a redundant place to be in. It (DISHA) was, I think, created because of this frustration: 'What's our place and work? What are we supposed to do and where?' Media reports citing government sources said the Centre is keeping a close eye on the matter, and is confident that Apple is capable of dealing with the situation. A senior official from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) said the matter was directly between Apple and Foxconn, and termed it as an 'opportunity'. 'I would look at it more as an opportunity. If the workers want to go back, it's between the company and the workers. They will have to make arrangements to ensure the work continues — production won't be impacted. We facilitated their visas'. The official noted that Apple has alternatives but the primary responsibility lies with the company (Apple) to ensure that the manufacturer doesn't impact production. What was the job of Chinese engineers who went back? According to reports, the 300 Chinese engineers who were recalled by Beijing, were responsible designing the factory, handling the assembly line and training employees. The Indian government said it was monitoring the production capacity of Foxconn, one of the few companies part of the Narendra Modi government's PLI scheme. Its must be noted that China is a global manufacturing and industrial powerhouses, and most of the equipment required to assemble mobile phones comes from there. These machines require specialized training to operate, which is usually imparted by Chinese experts who work for the manufacturer of these devices. How India plans to boost iPhone manufacturing? While a decade ago, iPhone manufacturing in India was practically negligible Apple began to assemble iPhones in the country from 2017 with newer models now being manufactured at Indian plants. Apple is strengthening its footprint in India as it proves to be a key market with its high population and rapidly growing economy. Foxconn operates iPhone manufacturing plants in India's southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, and its estimated that iPhones worth $14 billion, were assembled in India in the 2024-25 fiscal year, which means that one out of seven iPhones sold across the world carries a 'Made in India' tag. The Union government has launched the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme which is expected to attract gadget making moguls other than Apple, to establish their presence in the country. Two flagship stores were launched by Apple in Mumbai and Delhi in 2023 and Apple indicated that they are now planning to open four more retail stores in Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai.
