Trump's right on 'dead economy', remarks Rahul Gandhi, blames PM Modi

Time of India2 days ago
NEW DELHI: Congress neta Rahul Gandhi Thursday said US President Donald Trump has stated a fact that India has a "dead economy", asserting that the BJP govt is running the country to the ground because PM Narendra Modi "works for just one person, Adani".
Claiming there is "total confusion", Rahul said the Modi govt has destroyed the economic policy, foreign policy and defence policy of India, and Modi "does not know how to run the country".
"Modi works for only one person - Adani. They have destroyed all small businesses. You will see, this (Indo-US trade) deal will happen, and Trump will define how this deal is done, and Modi will do as Trump dictates," he said.
Speaking to reporters amid the row over Trump's imposition of tariffs, Rahul said there is no question the "Indian economy is a dead economy, the entire world knows it, except the PM and the finance minister".
He quipped, "Am glad that President Trump has stated a fact."
He said, "The Indian economy is dead, Modi killed it", mentioning among reasons the "Adani-Modi partnership, demonetisation and flawed GST".
Suggesting that Trump's tariffs had to be seen in conjunction with other geo-political issues, Rahul said India's "genius foreign policy" can be gauged from the fact that "while the US is abusing India, China is after you", and no country condemned Pakistan for the Pahalgam terror attack when multi-party delegations went across the world.

He said the PM did not name Trump and China (in Parliament), and could not acknowledge that no country had condemned Pakistan while "Trump is having lunch with Pakistan's military chief who is behind the Pahalgam attack".
"And they say it is a big success. What success?" he jibed.
Rahul said the key questions was why Modi was unable to respond to Trump's claim, made over 30-odd times, that he forced the ceasefire, that India lost five planes, and is now saying India will pay 25% tariffs.

We are followers of Hindu Dharma,' Awhad four-time MLA added that Sanatan Dharma was responsible for denying Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj his coronation and for defaming Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He also alleged that its followers tried to assassinate social reformer Jyotirao threw cow dung and filth at Savitribai Phule. This Sanatan Dharma conspired to kill Shahu Maharaj. 'Arrest Mohan Bhagwat': Ex-ATS Officer Drops Bombshell On Fake Saffron Terror Plot | Malegaon Blast In a staggering twist, a retired ATS officer has shaken the political landscape by claiming he was instructed to arrest RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat during the 2008 Malegaon blast probe. Speaking after the acquittal of all accused, including BJP MP Pragya Thakur, ex-Inspector Mehiboob Mujawar alleged that the saffron terror narrative was a fabrication, driven by political pressure. He described the directives as "horrific" and claims he refused to follow them, leading to his career's destruction via a false case. His allegations bring the focus sharply back to the credibility of terror investigations under UPA, and raise serious questions about the weaponisation of law enforcement. Opposition parties are now demanding answers, warning that faith in national security agencies is at risk. With claims of planted evidence, suppressed truths, and institutional vendetta, this case has reignited the saffron vs secular firestorm in Indian politics, and it's far from over.#malegaonblastcase, #mohanbhagwat, #mehiboobmujawar, #rsschiefcontroversy, #saffronterordebate, #pragyasinghthakur, #ltcolpurohit, #niacourtverdict, #faketerrorcharges, #atsinvestigation, #maharashtraats, #politicalvendetta, #antirssnarrative, #bjpvscongress, #indianjudiciary, #falseterrorcases, #nationalinvestigationagency, #indianpolitics, #judicialacquittal, #malegaoncaseacquittal, #hindutvanarrative, #2008malegaonblast #breakingnews #trending #bharat #toi #toibharat #indianews 2.8K views | 1 day ago

After a lag, US consumers begin to feel tariff pinch

. Many businesses chose to absorb the additional tax during the early days of President Donald Trump's trade war. But evidence is emerging that they are running out of options to keep prices stable in the face of deteriorating profit margins, suggesting that the tariffs could have a more pronounced effect on prices in the months ahead. US govt data, including from the commerce department this past week, shows that prices rose in June on items heavily exposed to tariffs, such as home furnishings, toys and appliances. And in recent days - before Trump announced tariffs for much of the world Thursday night - Adidas, Procter & Gamble, Stanley Black & Decker and other large corporations told investors that they either had increased prices or planned to do so soon to offset the tariff costs. Companies like Walmart and toymakers Hasbro and Mattel had already warned that tariffs would lead to higher prices. "We have no interest in running a lower-margin business, particularly due to tariffs," Richard Westenberger, the chief financial officer of Carter's, a children's apparel maker, said on a call with analysts July 25. Sarah House, an economist at Wells Fargo, said the next three to six months would be "crunchtime," as more tariff rates solidified. Trump and his advisers have maintained that foreign countries will eat the tariffs. But so far, while there are some signs that the exporters are swallowing the additional cost, most of it is being passed on to American importers, according to department of labour data on import prices.
