Paul Skenes reveals he'd cut grass professionally after hanging with Pirates' grounds crew
Before a 1-0 win over the Cardinals, the Pirates ace was spotted talking with the team's ground crew at PNC Park.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that he spent around 15-20 minutes chatting with the crew while they tended to the infield.
Whatever wisdom was shared between the two parties didn't hurt, as he went out and had a great outing with five scoreless innings in the Pittsburgh victory.

After the game, Skenes said he hung out with the grounds crew because he was bored, but he did add that he'd cut grass professionally after retirement from baseball, the Post-Gazette reported.
But for the 23-year-old starter, retirement should be far away. Once again, the young ace is a candidate for the NL Cy Young Award.
As a rookie last season, he was a nominee for the award, losing out to Braves ace Chris Sale.
Even though Skenes could not bring home the award, he still had a fantastic season by winning the NL Rookie of the Year and starting the All-Star Game for the senior circuit.

In all, he had a record of 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.
This season, although he has a 4-7 record, his other numbers remain elite, including an NL-best 2.03 ERA.
Despite another stellar Skenes season, the Pirates' offense has ranked toward the bottom of the league, hitting the second-fewest home runs in MLB and compiling the seventh-lowest batting average.
The Pirates sit last in the NL Central with a record of 38-50.

Prior to the Commissioner's Cup victory over the Minnesota Lynx, Stephanie White said Indiana wants to make sure Clark is at her best before returning. 'Making progress and feeling good are two different things,' White said. 'We want to make sure that she feels good. We want to make sure that she's confident. We want to make sure that we're not putting her in a position to have any setbacks. That's the that's the priority right now.' The Fever host the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday, the Atlanta Dream on July 11 and Dallas Wings on July 13. The Fever then go on the road July 15 at the Connecticut Sun and July 16 at the New York Liberty before hosting the WNBA All-Star Game. Dominating defense pushes Fever past Aces for third straight win without Caitlin Clark
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever wasted no time assuaging concerns of a potential Commissioner's Cup hangover Thursday night vs. the Las Vegas Aces. Back home for the start of a five-game homestand and playing without Caitlin Clark for a fourth consecutive game, the Fever scored the first six points of regulation and ran their advantage to as many as 10 through the opening 10 minutes. When the Aces found their footing and made it a two-score game early in the second, Indiana retaliated with an 8-0 run to regain control en route to an 81-54 win. Indiana improves to 9-8. Vegas drops to 8-9. It's the Fever's first win over the Aces since Aug. 27, 2019, and is the second time A'ja Wilson has lost to the Fever in her career (21-2). Here are three things we learned. The Fever unlocked a new level to their defense in the second quarter of Tuesday's win at Minnesota. They maintained that momentum back home Thursday night, limiting the Aces to 16 for 61 shooting. Of the Aces' 54 points, 29 came from reigning MVP Wilson, who was one of only two Vegas players with multiple field goals and accounted for nine of their 16 buckets. Indiana forced a few shot clock violations through the opening 10 minutes, then began finding success with its full-court press in the second half, converting 17 turnovers to 19 points for the game. A moment that stands out from late in the third quarter: Sophie Cunningham stole an inbound pass and laid it in, pushing the lead to 20 and whipping the crowd into a frenzy. And as soon as the ball dropped through, she was back in position, ready to apply pressure along the baseline with Lexie Hull before Vegas called timeout. The Fever are really tough to beat when they defend like that. Kelsey Mitchell continued to bolster her case for a WNBA All-Star spot with another strong performance: 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting with three triples, six assists, only two turnovers and two steals. Mitchell, who scored seven of the Fever's nine points over a 90-second stretch in the first, dropped 10 points in the third quarter, including a stretch where she accounted for nine of the team's 14 points and tacked on an assist to push the lead to 20 late in the frame. Mitchell is averaging 25.8 points over her last four games and ranked eighth in the league at 19 ppg entering Thursday's game. The final 12 All-Star selections — three guards, five frontcourt players and four players of any position — will be announced next week and with how she's been playing recently, Mitchell's got a real strong case. The Fever were doubling up the Aces on points in the paint for long stretches of that game and finished with a 38-20 advantage. Aliyah Boston did most of the heavy lifting, pouring in 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds and a couple assists. Boston is averaging 20 points over her last six games.

Ronny Mauricio (Mets) – 456 ft – vs. Rockies – June 7 Mauricio remains a promising youngster for the Mets, with this 456-foot shot at Coors Field for his first homer since 2023 after sitting out last season with an ACL injury. The 6-foot-4 infielder has three homers on the season. 7. Sean Murphy (Braves) – 455 ft – vs. Phillies – June 28 Murphy delivered a clutch 455-foot grand slam at Truist Park against the Phillies in an NL East contest. The catcher has 12 HRs on the season, which already surpasses his total (10) from last year. 8. Colton Cowser (Orioles) – 455 ft – vs. Athletics – June 7 Cowser crushed a 455-foot blast off the A's for his seventh of the season. The Orioles youngster, who had 24 HRs as rookie last year, has battled injuries this season and recently landed on the IL due to a broken thumb. 9. Mike Trout (Angels) – 454 ft – vs. Red Sox – June 2 It was vintage Trout with this 454-foot blast off Richard Fitts. The 11-time All-Star has just five home runs this season, but he's working his way back into form after missing the first part of the season. With 391 home runs, he is only behind Giancarlo Stanton (490) among active players. 10. Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs) – 452 ft – vs. Brewers – June 17 Crow-Armstrong, now a first-time All-Star, made no doubt about it with this 452-foot blast at Wrigley Field.
