BERLIN : Four people were wounded on a high-speed train in southern Germany today when a fellow passenger attacked them with 'dangerous objects', police said.
A suspect was arrested following the incident on a train carrying around 500 passengers near the village of Strasskirchen, police for the region of Bavaria said in a statement.
'At around 1:55pm today… a man on an ICE train travelling towards Vienna injured several people with dangerous objects,' the statement said.
Four people received 'minor injuries', it added.
The Bild daily reported that the main weapon used to attack passengers was 'probably an axe'.
'Several passengers reportedly pulled the emergency brake after the incident, causing the train to come to a halt on an open stretch of track,' it said.
Passengers then surrounded the attacker, who was seriously injured and taken to hospital by helicopter, it added.
Rail operator Deutsche Bahn said it was 'appalled' by the 'violent attack' on the train, which had been travelling from Hamburg.
'Our thoughts and sympathy are with the injured and all those who are now coming to terms with what they have experienced,' a spokesman said.

PETALING JAYA : A 46-year-old musician was arrested for allegedly attacking his housemate with a metal rod after an argument sparked by the slamming of the bathroom door at their rented home in Pandan Indah, Ampang. Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said the victim, a cook, was awakened at 6.30am by the sound of the bathroom door being slammed. The 52-year-old retaliated by slamming the bathroom door in response. The suspect then emerged from his room holding a metal rod, believed to be part of a guitar stand. A heated argument ensued, following which he allegedly struck the cook. The musician also threatened to call his friends over to beat up his housemate. The cook, who suffered injuries to his hands, lodged a police report on June 30. Police arrested the musician on July 2 and seized a black guitar stand. 'He was released on police bail after giving his statement,' Azam said in a statement. He said the housemates had quarrelled before, when the musician refused to turn down the volume of his music despite repeated complaints. Police are investigating the case for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department will provide its full cooperation to the police in the investigation into a Bangladeshi militant group. "The matter is under police action. It is being handled by the police, so I would prefer not to comment further on it," said Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. "However, we take the issue seriously and will provide full cooperation to the police in their investigation and in taking appropriate legal action," he said during the department's shooting programme with the media here today. Earlier today, police said 100 to 150 Bangladeshi nationals were involved in the radical militant group that was crippled recently. It aimed to spread Islamic State ideology here and in Bangladesh. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the group focused on recruiting Bangladeshis working in factories, petrol stations and construction sites. Police detained 36 Bangladeshi nationals linked to the group last month. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had said the operation began on April 24 and was carried out in three phases in Selangor and Johor. Of the 36 Bangladeshis who were detained, five were charged under Chapter VIA of the Penal Code, which involves offences related to terrorism, while 15 were issued deportation orders. The remaining 16 are still under investigation.
