ExtendMax Becomes First Vietnamese Company to Win the Asia-Pacific People's Choice Stevie Awards

Korea Herald21-05-2025
HANOI, Vietnam, May 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- ExtendMax has made history as the first Vietnamese company to win the Asia-Pacific Stevie® People's Choice Award, securing the coveted "Favorite Company" title.
This major milestone reflects ExtendMax Vietnam Company Limited 's decade-long journey building trust through regulatory expertise and seamless project execution for multinational clients entering or operating in Vietnam.
"We're honored to represent Vietnam on a global stage," said Tran Thanh Phuong, Founder and CEO of ExtendMax. "This award belongs to our customers, partners, and team – people who've trusted us to solve complex compliance challenges and deliver critical business outcomes."
ExtendMax's recognition follows a growing list of achievements, including Gold and Silver Stevie Awards in innovation categories, further cementing Mr. Phuong's status as a leading legal and compliance expert in Vietnam's fast-evolving tech and import landscape.
One of ExtendMax's hallmark achievements underscoring its capabilities is the project supporting LEGO in importing the IT systems for LEGO's largest global factory in Vietnam, with a total investment of approximately USD 1.3 billion.
From the outset, this project faced numerous regulatory challenges related to importing IT equipment that uses encryption technology and network security systems. As both a consulting firm and a trusted provider of Importer of Record (IOR) services in Vietnam, ExtendMax provided end-to-end advisory services, crafted detailed plans, applied for encryption licenses, and prepared all necessary procedures to ensure the project stayed on schedule without disruption.
Thanks to its comprehensive solutions and extensive experience handling large-scale projects, ExtendMax enabled LEGO to smoothly import tens of millions of dollars' worth of IT equipment, helping ensure the factory's construction and operations progressed as planned.
"The LEGO project is a testament to the values of commitment and customer-centricity that ExtendMax upholds. We don't just provide consulting; we stand side by side with our clients, overcoming every obstacle, executing every procedure, and taking responsibility for the final outcomes. Our clients' success is our success – and that is the value we cherish most," Mr. Tran Thanh Phuong added.
According to CEO Tran Thanh Phuong, this People's Choice Stevie Award is not only a recognition of his personal efforts or those of the leadership team – it is a proud achievement of the entire ExtendMax collective, whose members have remained steadfast in their mission to accompany and support clients in successfully completing every project.
He also extended his heartfelt gratitude to the customers, partners, and community who took the time to vote, share, and support ExtendMax, helping the company make its mark across the region:
"The Stevie Awards are among the world's most prestigious business awards. This year, the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards received over 1,000 nominations from 29 markets, but only eight People's Choice Stevie Awards were presented. ExtendMax is honored and proud to be the only Vietnamese company to win this special category. I believe this award belongs to all of us – the ExtendMax team, our customers, partners, and friends – those who have joined me in a nearly decade-long journey of continuous innovation, relentless effort, and the ambition to reach the global stage."
Looking ahead, Mr. Phuong shared that ExtendMax remains committed to its strategic focus on developing professional compliance certification consulting services and Importer of Record solutions, enhancing internal capabilities, embracing digital transformation, and expanding international partnerships.
"We will not stop at this award. This is the motivation for ExtendMax to continue improving service quality, pursuing innovative solutions, and advancing transparent, sustainable development that brings value to the business community in Vietnam and the broader region," Mr. Tran Thanh Phuong emphasized.

Korea's slow growth risks credit downgrade: S&P

South Korea's weakening growth trajectory could eventually impact its sovereign credit rating, according to a senior analyst at S&P Global Ratings. "The Korean economy has been slowing down for various reasons," Kim Eng Tan, managing director of Asia-Pacific sovereign ratings at S&P Global Ratings, said at a press conference held in central Seoul, Wednesday, discussing growth deceleration and rising household debt. The press conference took place ahead of a seminar jointly held by the credit appraiser and the Korea Center for International Finance on the same day, under the title "Credit Could Cost More in a Less-Trade World." At the conference, Kim Eng Tan stressed that growth may be the most important economic indicator to watch for Korea. "There are reasons to be less optimistic about Korea's growth rate, which may have an impact on the ratings at some point in the future because we now count the country's relatively strong growth as a positive factor for the government fiscals," he said. Korea has been grappling with sluggish growth, with major institutions such as the Bank of Korea and the Korea Development Institute forecasting gross domestic product to grow just 0.8 percent this year. Kim Eng Tan further suggested that the country's export-dependent economy may suffer from more changes in the global trading regime, sparked by the US administration's imposition of tariffs. 'In the past, the World Trade Organization set the trading regime, where no matter the size of the economy, countries had to follow the same kinds of rules, more or less. If a country deviates from the rules, it faces sanctions or pushbacks,' he said. 'But what the US has done makes every other big economy decide that it is in their interest to use their economic size and market to enforce trading rules more friendly to themselves. This is not a great development for all exporters, particularly for a relatively medium-sized economy like Korea, with a medium-sized domestic market.' Yet Kim Eng Tan further highlighted that Korea has been maintaining a relatively strong economic growth despite its aging demographics. "Despite the slow and negative impact of aging, something in Korea has managed to offset that and still provide very strong outcomes in areas that aging can negatively affect. That is why the rating is so high,' he said. S&P Global Ratings has kept Korea's long-term sovereign credit rating at the third-highest notch on the company's table of "AA" since August 2016. 'Of course, if the factors go away or aging becomes even more pronounced than today, and the negative impacts of aging show more clearly, we may have to adjust the rate. But at the moment, I do not see that happening.'

U.S. Cities Demonstrate Dominant Appeal in Global Tourism Rankings, Led by New York in Top 4

Yanolja Research Announces Inaugural 'Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index' SEOUL, South Korea, July 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Yanolja Research, a global research institute specializing in the travel and tourism industry, today announced the inaugural "Yanolja Attractiveness Index" at the '2025 Global Tourism City Attractiveness Evaluation' seminar. This new index objectively evaluates the appeal of major tourism cities worldwide, distinctly from the perspective of global travelers. Developed jointly by Yanolja Research, Purdue University's CHRIBA Institute in the U.S., and Kyung Hee University's H&T Analytics Center in Seoul, Korea, the index evaluated the attractiveness of 191 tourism cities using global social media data in 14 languages, provided by Brandwatch in the UK. In the 2025 evaluation, Osaka, Japan, rose two ranks from its 3rd place in 2024 to secure the top spot overall, with Kyoto ranking 3rd. Notably, U.S. cities showcased exceptional strength, with New York leading the American contingent by securing a remarkable 4th place globally. Unparalleled Strength of U.S. Cities in Global Tourism The 2025 Yanolja Attractiveness Index highlights the profound and diverse appeal of the United States as a global tourism powerhouse. A significant number of U.S. cities received high evaluations, demonstrating their consistent draw for international travelers across a wide range of experiences. New York led the way at 4th place globally, reinforcing its enduring appeal as a premier destination known for its cultural dynamism and iconic skyline. Washington, D.C. followed at 13th, celebrated for its historical landmarks and national significance, while Los Angeles claimed the 14th position, praised as a global hub for entertainment, creativity, and diversity. Chicago secured 17th place, earning recognition for its architectural grandeur and rich cultural offerings, and Boston, ranked 21st, continued to charm visitors with its blend of American history and modern vibrancy. San Francisco followed at 24th, admired for its unique character, tech innovation, and scenic beauty, while Miami came in at 27th, well-known for its eclectic mix of Latin culture, beaches, and nightlife. Las Vegas maintained its status as a global entertainment capital at 36th, and Seattle, with its thriving tech scene and natural surroundings, secured the 47th position. Rounding out the top 50, Orlando placed 48th, continuing to attract families and theme park enthusiasts from around the world. Beyond the top 50, other American cities continued to make a strong showing. New Orleans ranked 56th, lauded for its vibrant music, food, and festival scene, while Honolulu secured the 100th spot, remaining a sought-after destination for travelers seeking tropical beauty and island experiences. The widespread presence of U.S. cities across the rankings reaffirms the country's diverse appeal and its enduring strength in the global tourism landscape. New Metric Evaluates Tourism Cities Through 'Affection' and 'Cognition' Unlike traditional "tourism competitiveness" evaluations that focus on supply-side factors like transportation, accommodation infrastructure, and policy, the "Yanolja Attractiveness Index" prioritizes measuring a tourism city's "appeal" from the perspective of actual travel consumers. To achieve this, it uses two core pillars: "Tourism City Attractiveness," which indicates how positively a specific tourism city is viewed, and "Tourism City Reputation," which reflects how widely known and discussed it is. Based on these two pillars, Yanolja Research conducted a comprehensive evaluation by segmenting a tourism city's attractiveness into four key dimensions: Urban Aesthetics and Natural Scenery, Culture and History, Experiential Tourism Contents, Hospitality. Global Tourism City Attractiveness: Diverse Leaders Emerge In the 2025 overall rankings, while Japan's Osaka (1st) and Kyoto (3rd) demonstrated strong performance, the global landscape showed diverse regional strengths. Asian cities, including Seoul (5th), Bangkok (7th) and Chiang Mai (20th) from Asia, continued their significant progress. European tourism cities such as Paris (2nd), London (6th), and Rome (8th) continued to exhibit strong brand power, although some traditional favorites like Madrid (29th) and Barcelona (25th) experienced shifts, reflecting evolving global tourism preferences. Expert Opinions Commenting on the research findings, Dr. SooCheong Jang, Professor at Purdue University, stated, "The 'Yanolja Attractiveness Index' is the first attempt to analyze a tourism city's 'appeal' factors through the actual voices of tourists, going beyond infrastructure-centric evaluations. The robust performance of cities across diverse regions, including the U.S., Japan, and other Asian nations, demonstrates how dynamically tourist preferences are changing. Moving forward, for tourism cities to lead the global market, discovering and communicating their unique charm will be a core strategy." Professor Kyu-wan Choi of Kyung Hee University's College of Hotel and Tourism Management added, "Osaka's ascent to #1 proves the power of diverse and engaging experiential content. The robust presence of numerous U.S. cities in the top tiers, alongside other global leaders, showcases the powerful effect of combining unique cultural offerings with modern amenities and natural beauty. Now is the time for strategic consideration to connect this opportunity to sustainable growth and further enhance the unique appeal of each region." Yanolja Research plans to regularly announce the "Yanolja Attractiveness Index" annually to track global tourism trends and changes in tourism city competitiveness. Detailed results and analysis of the Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index, released on July 2, can be found on the official Yanolja Research website:
