CM Mamata Banerjee, Left slam Centre over Delhi cop calling Bengali a ‘Bangladeshi language'
However, BJP's West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya defended the police, arguing that the language used was "absolutely correct" and distinguishing between Bengali literature from India and Bangladesh. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya accused Banerjee of defending "illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators" and stated that national security would not be compromised for "vote-bank politics."
CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim posted the controversial Delhi Police letter on social media and mocked the department's ignorance. 'Will the illiterate @DelhiPolice explain what 'Bangladeshi language' means? Have they not heard of the 8th Schedule of the Constitution?' he asked.
CPI(ML) Liberation leader Dipankar Bhattacharya also condemned the incident, saying it reflects 'majoritarian arrogance' and warned that fascism poses a threat to India's linguistic and cultural fabric.
'The persecution of Bengali-speaking workers as 'Bangladeshis' has now escalated into outright denial of Bengali as an Indian language. This is an assault on our multicultural unity,' Bhattacharya said in a Facebook post.
He called for a united resistance against attempts to erode India's linguistic diversity and national integrity.

AAP accuses BJP of framing its leaders in 'false cases' after Delhi court dismisses case against Satyendar Jain
The AAP on Sunday slammed the BJP for allegedly framing its leaders in false cases and questioned who would compensate the families for the emotional distress caused by the serious corruption allegations. In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false".(PTI) In a major relief for AAP leader Satyendar Jain, a special court on Monday accepted the CBI's closure report filed in a 2018 case against the former Delhi PWD minister and others related to alleged corruption in hiring a creative team for the department, noting that the "investigation found no criminal activity or wrongful loss to the government." In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false". "With time, the truth will come out in all these cases. False cases were filed against us, and we were sent to jail. Shouldn't those who filed these false cases, and those leaders who ordered these false cases, be sent to jail? We were smeared with mud day and night, our families had to endure so much pain — what about compensating for all that?" the AAP supremo said on X. While accepting the CBI's closure report, Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the investigating agency has not found any incriminating evidence over such a long period, and further proceedings would serve no useful purpose. "Whenever they wanted, they filed fake cases; whenever they wanted, they sent us to jail; and whenever they felt like it, they filed a 'closure report.' Is this justice?" Kejriwal questioned. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also posted on X, "Three things cannot remain hidden for long: the sun, the moon, and the truth. – Gautam Buddha. No evidence found against Satyendar Jain: CBI." "The BJP put in all its might, but victory always belongs to the truth. Satyameva Jayate," Sisodia said in his post. The agency had registered the case on May 28, 2018, on a reference from the office of the Lieutenant Governor of the NCT of Delhi to investigate the allegations of irregularities in the award of a tender to a private company for hiring a creative team for PWD works. Four years later, the CBI filed a closure report in the matter, underlining that there was "no evidence of pecuniary advantage, conspiracy, or corruption". AAP's Delhi state convener Saurabh Bharadwaj said the "conspiracy" of the BJP had been exposed. "The conspiracy of BJP exposed. False cases by CBI revealed. The despicable thinking of BJP's central government and their LG - file false cases against Kejriwal's government ministers and MLAs to hinder their work, defame them in the name of corruption. Now the truth is coming to light,' he said in a post on X in Hindi. Echoing similar views, former Delhi minister Atishi said in a press conference, "Since the AAP government was formed in Delhi, the BJP has filed false cases against our leaders. In 10 years, more than 200 cases have been filed against our leaders. When these cases go to court, it comes to light that AAP leaders have done nothing wrong." Atishi said the CBI court has accepted that there was not a single penny of corruption in Jain's case and has declared him innocent.

Abhishek Banerjee appointed as TMC Lok Sabha party chief, replaces Sudip Bandyopadhyay
Taking to X in the late evening, Abhishek said, 'I am deeply honoured by the trust reposed in me by our party chairperson Didi @MamataOfficial and my fellow MPs of the All India Trinamool Congress, in choosing me to lead our parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha.' 'With full commitment and humility, I take on this responsibility and pledge to work closely with all my colleagues to ensure that Trinamool's voice remains strong and unwavering in Parliament. Together, we will continue to resist the authoritarianism of the Union Government and defend the core values of our Constitution - JUSTICE, LIBERTY, EQUALITY AND FRATERNITY,' he stated. 'Our mission remains clear: To protect the rights, respect and aspirations of the people of Bengal. I thank every dedicated worker and supporter of the @AITCofficial for their continued belief in me and our cause and I am also extremely grateful to our senior parliamentarians for their invaluable support, guidance and encouragement,' the post added. The development marks a significant step in consolidating Abhishek's stature within the party, adding to his role as national general secretary — widely seen as the second-most important position in the TMC. Political observers called the decision 'inevitable', given Abhishek's growing influence over party affairs in recent years. He was also designated as the TMC's 'Delhi spokesperson' during the working committee meeting in November last year. Sources said Mamata addressed Sudip Bandyopadhyay directly during the virtual meeting and asked him to rest and focus on recovery. 'Didi told him that Abhishek will look after the Lok Sabha responsibilities now, including preparing the list of speakers and obtaining her approval,' said an MP present in the meeting. When Bandyopadhyay offered to return to Delhi, Mamata reportedly told him it was not necessary. Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who has been battling illness for months, has not attended a single sitting of the current Parliament session. Another TMC veteran, Saugata Roy, is also unwell and currently hospitalised.
