Egypt raises insurance payout for nationals abroad, expands eligibility

Zawya20 hours ago
Egypt has increased the value of an optional insurance policy covering accidents for its nationals abroad to EGP 250,000, a 150% rise, and has expanded its eligibility to all expatriate workers and their families, authorities said.
The policy, developed in cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), will be implemented in July 2025. It aims to integrate Egyptians working abroad and their families into social protection networks, according to an FRA statement.
The increase raises the insurance payout from EGP 100,000 in cases of death and total disability.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said the proposal reflects the state's full commitment to protecting the rights of Egyptian citizens abroad and providing a safety net for them and their families. He said the effort is part of a comprehensive vision to connect Egyptians abroad with their home country through tangible services.
The ministry will continue to cooperate with the FRA and other relevant bodies to develop more mechanisms to protect the rights of Egyptians abroad, Abdelatty added.
Mohamed Farid, chairperson of the FRA, said the policy was a successful model of cooperation between state institutions. He said the authority is constantly working to enhance financial inclusion and develop the insurance sector to support the national economy.
Previously, the policy was restricted to those holding official work permits. The eligibility has now been expanded to include all Egyptians working abroad and their families for the first time.
Ambassador Nabil Habashi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates' Affairs said the changes were a response to requests made by Egyptians abroad during a conference last year and through ongoing communication. He said expanding the policy's coverage was an important step towards establishing 'insurance justice.'
According to the policy, Egyptians abroad without work permits can subscribe via the managing consortium's website, mobile application, or WhatsApp. The policy provides financial protection in the event of natural death, accidental death, or an accident causing permanent total disability while abroad.
In cases of natural death, the consortium will cover the actual cost of repatriating the remains, up to a maximum of 250,000 pounds. If the deceased is buried abroad, the consortium will pay an amount equivalent to the cost of repatriation.
In the event of accidental death, the consortium will bear the actual costs of repatriation, and the remaining amount of the 250,000-pound payout will be distributed to the legal heirs. To be covered, the insured person must be between 18 and 70 years of age at the time of the incident.

Egypt: El-Wazir announces offering 36 factories to investors at Robbiki Leather City

Arab Finance: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir announced the launch of the second offering of industrial factories at Robbiki Leather City. This comes within the third phase, which comprises 36 fully equipped factories for finished leather products. The offering will be available on Egypt's Digital Industrial Platform from July 5th to 27th. This initiative follows the success of the first offering, which was launched last December and resulted in the allocation of all offered factories with a coverage rate exceeding 100%. Implemented under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the new offering aims to strengthen local industry and stimulate industrial investment, especially in key sectors with high added value, such as the leather industry. The 36 ready-to-operate factories span areas ranging from 121 to 2,000 square meters (sqm) to meet the investors' various demands. In this regard, six factories (2,000 sqm), 10 factories (1,000 sqm), and 20 industrial workshops (121 sqm) will be channeled through Cairo Company for Investment and Development (CID). El-Wazir noted that these factories serve varied production capacities, adding that multiple units can be merged for expansion-focused investors, ensuring smooth management. He also affirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting serious investors and bolstering a flexible, stable production environment within the Robbiki Leather City. The new offering, available under both instalment sale and operational rent systems, has unprecedented facilitations, including an integrated package of financing solutions secured with the Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank). This facility covers machinery, working capital, technical support, and export assistance. Moreover, investors at the Robbiki Leather City will receive additional incentives, most notably an additional 50% of export burden refunds, to evolve global competitiveness. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. Egypt secures natural gas supplies to all sectors via 4 FSRUs

Arab Finance: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is securing natural gas supplies to all sectors via four floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), according to a statement. This move comes within the first pillar of the ministry's strategy to boost production and secure the state's needs of energy. It helps fulfill the demands of the electricity, industrial, and economic sectors safely and sustainably in line with the changing regional and internation energy market. The strategy aims to diversify the inputs into the national natural gas network to include production from domestic fields, pipeline-imported gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Additionally, the ministry signed several agreements with leading international companies to lease advanced FRUs, which will expand the system's capacity and support a stable supply during peak periods. The ministry also highlighted efforts to prepare several new berths and connect them to the national gas grid, sustainably boosting Egypt's gas infrastructure. This will ensure balanced distribution between supply and demand areas to maximize the stability of the national grid. Berths have been deployed at the Sumed and Sonker ports in Ain Sokhna, in addition to the United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC) berth in Damietta. This comes as part of the final phase of connecting the FSRUs to their designated berths according to the planned timeline. The 'Hoegh Galleon' unit has been deployed at Ain Sokhna since 2024, while the 'Energos Eskimo' and 'Energos Power' are connected to the Sumed and Sonker berths in Ain Sokhna. This is in addition to the 'Winter' unit connected to UGDC's berth in Damietta. Hence, the four units' combined daily capacity during the peak consumption of 2025 will stand at 2,700 million cubic feet. In cooperation with Jordan, a fifth FSRU, Energos Force, is expected to arrive at the Port of Aqaba by the end of July, as it will be connected to the Arab Gas Pipeline. This will add a new gateway to the national grids, enhancing the ability to respond to any emergencies during the summer, with a regasification daily capacity of up to 750 million cubic feet. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology.
