Amazon Prime ends 10 TV shows in major cull of hit content
There are a variety of reasons this slate of TV shows is coming to an end, whether they have reached their natural conclusion, are a victim of Freevee shutting down or received poor ratings.
The slew of show closures kicked off at the beginning of this year with New York-based comedy Harlem – praised for its portrayal of modern Black womanhood – dropping its third and final season.
The show's creator Tracy Oliver was forced to 'scrap' original plans after finding out it was unlikely to get another renewal and ultimately made sure the characters got a 'satisfying', if not premature, ending.
Following hot on its heels with another major show touted as a fan-favourite is The Summer I Turned Pretty, which will release its third and final season in July.
It will not return for a fourth outing.
The popular young adult romance series is based on a trilogy by Jenny Han, who is also a showrunner on the adaptation. The plot follows the love triangle between our protagonist Belly, and brothers Jeremiah and Conrad 'over one perfect summer'.
Jenny has always made clear that there would be a season per book so fans have been anticipating the bittersweet end.
Next, although Priyanka Chopra's spy series Citadel will come back for season two next year, the spin-off shows Honey Bunny and Diana have no such luck.
Prime Video broke the news in April, reassuring fans that the plotlines would instead be incorporated into the main show to make it the 'most exhilarating' chapter yet.
So, for any concerned fans, it won't be the last we see of these storylines despite the cancellations.
Rolling in next, we have Filipino-American drama Almost Paradise which arrived on Amazon for its second season. Unfortunately, it is now collateral damage as Amazon winds down its Freevee service to simplify its streaming.
But for fans hoping to see more of Ex-DEA agent Alex Walker (Christian Kane) there is hope yet after executive producer Dean Devlin told TV Insider that they are 'looking for a new home'.
'At some point, Almost Paradise will be back. I just don't know when,' he promised.
In another shock turn of events, Amazon Prime's adaptation of Naomi Alderman's 2016 sci-fi novel The Power, starring Toni Colette, has been canned.
The show, which follows a world in which teenage girls are suddenly given the power to electrocute people, was quietly put to rest earlier this year after only nine episodes.
Elsewhere, Amazon's 90s reboot of Cruel Intentions proved to be not quite the success they were hoping for.
The revival, starring Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess, failed to make a splash with viewership or critical reviews, petering out into an almost inevitable axe.
Finally, we have a trio of ill-fated comedies.
First up is The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, following the antics of an immigrant family and starring British comedian Sindhu Vee and Lost's Naveen Andrews.
Unfortunately, the Freevee shuffle-up which has hit many of the smaller shows much harder meant this hasn't been given the second series order.
In much the same vein, the sitcom Clean Slate, which featured late TV star Norman Lear in his final project, will also not be returning.
The show, starring Laverne Cox, follows an Alabama car wash owner rebuilding their relationship with their adult trans daughter.
In a statement, Laverene as well as co-creators George Wallace and Dan Ewen said it was a 'labour of love' and a 'seven-year effort' that 'was gone in a puff of server exhaust.' More Trending
And finally, we have The Sticky – a six-episode heist comedy series guest starring Jamie Lee Curtis.
The intriguing Canadian series was based on a true crime story of a real-life 2012 heist where more than $18 million worth of maple syrup was stolen from Quebec's national reserves.
But for every cancellation, there is also plenty of new and returning content. This year certified Prime Video hit Clarkson's Farm will be coming back for another round.

There is also the adaptation of the bestselling novel We Were Liars to look forward to in June. And who can forget the second season of delightful period drama Maxton Hall set to come out at the end of this year.

Stephen Colbert on Paramount's $16m settlement with Trump: ‘Big fat bribe'
Late-night hosts rebuke Paramount's settlement with Donald Trump and mock the Maga movement infighting over the Jeffrey Epstein files. Stephen Colbert returned to The Late Show on Monday after two weeks in Turkey – 'I heard so many great things from Mayor Adams about it,' he quipped – to blast his network's parent company, Paramount, for settling with Donald Trump for $16m. 'As someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I am offended,' he said. 'And I don't know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company. But just taking a stab at it, I'd say $16m would help.' The settlement ended a 'nuisance lawsuit' filed by Trump, claiming that CBS News deceptively edited their interview with then candidate Kamala Harris last fall. 'Paramount knows they could have fought it,' Colbert explained, because the company itself called the lawsuit 'completely without merit'. 'And keep in mind, Paramount produced Transformers: Rise of the Beast – they know completely without merit,' he joked. The settlement did not include an apology, though Colbert didn't equate that with defiance. He imagined a statement for them: 'You may take our money, but you will never take our dignity. You may, however, purchase our dignity for the low, low price of $16m. We need the cash.' Given that Paramount's owners are pushing the Trump administration to approve the sale of CBS to Skydance, it's a settlement by one name or, as Colbert put it, 'a big fat bribe' by another. Colbert then turned his attention to infighting in the Trump administration, after the US attorney general, Pam Bondi, released a statement that the Department of Justice and the FBI found 'no incriminating client list' of financier Jeffrey Epstein's nor 'credible evidence … that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals', thus contradicting Maga conspiracists. 'You can't take this away from your base! That is Maga's favorite conspiracy!' Colbert laughed. 'What are we going to find out next? That immigrants aren't eating cats? That if you sail to the horizon, you don't fall off the world?' In a long screed on Truth Social, Trump decried the 'selfish people' who were 'trying to hurt [Maga], all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein'. 'Wait, wait?! Maga, you heard your leader – Jeffrey Epstein is alive!' Colbert joked. 'That can mean only one thing: zombie Epstein. He's coming for our brains, and thank goodness, because I do not want to think of him any more.' 'Maga-world, for the first time in memory, isn't just slavishly acquiescing to Trump's reality distortion field,' said Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, referring to the backlash against Trump by his own base over the Epstein files his administration now claims don't exist. 'These are all people who work for Trump that set the expectation,' Stewart explained. 'In a few months' time, we went from 'the Epstein files will expose the Democrats' to 'the Epstein files were written by the Democrats and therefore can't be trusted, so let's move on'.' Stewart showed videos of Trump supporters booing the news that the Epstein files allegedly do not exist, or burning their Maga hats. 'Maga world is now in open revolt,' Stewart relished. 'Clearly telling your base to just forget about Epstein isn't working.' 'Maga is losing their shit right now,' he added. 'They cannot believe what they're seeing. Trump is lying? Dismissing reasonable concerns as bad-faith whining? Attacking anyone who disagrees?' 'As a resident of blue America, can I just say right now to my red colleagues that my pronouns are 'how does' and 'my ass taste',' he continued. 'The Trump that you're just experiencing now, to your deep disappointment and dismay, is the dude we've been dealing with the whole fucking time. You just didn't realize it because he's been nice to you.' And on Late Night, Seth Meyers also mocked the Maga infighting over Epstein, which is 'a monster of their own making', he said. 'They made the Epstein conspiracy the center of their worldview, despite the fact that Trump and Epstein were photographed together and partied together, and Trump called Epstein a 'terrific guy' and Epstein called Trump his 'closest friend for 10 years'. Maga ignored all that, and hyper-fixated on the Epstein story.' Meyers played clips of prominent Trump supporters including JD Vance, conspiracy podcast host turned deputy FBI director Dan Bongino and even Donald Trump Jr calling for the release of the so-called 'Epstein tapes'. And yet the Department of Justice no claims there is no list, which directly contradicts what Bondi said in an interview with Fox News in February: that the list was 'sitting on my desk right now to review'. Bondi now claims that it was merely the file on her desk, which did not contain a list. 'Are we really going to believe that anyone in the world would have the Epstein file on their desk and not immediately take a peek?' Meyers wondered. 'I mean, who has that kind of restraint?' 'Maga accomplished nothing, because they believe in nothing,' he concluded of the mess. 'The only two things that held them together were a cult-like devotion to Trump and their conspiracy theories. And now that those are butting up against each other, they're imploding.

Horror director reveals why Amazon Prime series star was cut from new 90s reboot

Film fans were sent into a spin when a revival of the 90s slasher was confirmed last year, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr reprising their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson respectively. Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders led the latest group of Southport locals going up against a hook-wielding killer, alongside Sarah Pidgeon, Jonah Hauer-King and Tyriq Withers. It was previously revealed that Lola Tung, star of Amazon Prime Video series The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez – who appeared in Netflix's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story – were also in the cast, however they didn't make it into the final version. Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has now revealed that the pair were initially part of the opening scene, before it ended up on the cutting room floor. 'In every movie, it's best laid plans, and then you edit the movie, and you put it together and you go, 'I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn't fit in the movie,'' she told People Magazine. 'It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas – they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them. They did a fabulous job. 'But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn't fit.' 'It sucks because you don't want to do that to those actors,' she added. 'And it sucks when you love something as a scene but that scene just doesn't work in the final cut of the film.' Although Jennifer didn't quite share exactly what their scene entailed, she previously promised that the horror aspects of the reboot were 'ratcheted up to 100' so we can only imagine… I Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 1997 and became an instant hit, spawning a sequel the following year. In the new revival, a masked killer causes chaos in Southport once again after a group of friends make a pact to cover up a deadly car accident. However, the past doesn't quite stay hidden, and they find themselves stalked on the anniversary of the incident. Speaking to Metro ahead of the release, Madelyn Cline shared that the cast felt 'pressure' to do the original movies justice, while also ensuring that their version was 'new'. More Trending 'I think we knew going into it, it was going to be its own,' she told us. 'It's not a standalone, but definitely the goal was to compliment the original and bring back what made the original so good as much as we possibly could. 'But also reintroduce new elements, and give a modern twist, and hopefully bring back everything that people loved, and also give them something to look forward to.'
