I'm a TV critic and these are 3 Netflix series you can binge in one night
Any Netflix user can easily spend more time browsing through possible options than actually watching something.
The offering is changing on a near daily basis, it can be difficult to know what to dedicate most of your binging time to. As a television critic, it's part of the job to have an answer to that question.
So what about options that make the most of your time? A series that will get you hooked and able to binge watch, in just a single evening?
The picks below imagine you settling down between 3 and 4pm, you'll probably be ordering food in, unless you're talented enough to binge on a second screen while cooking. We'll aim to have you rolling credits on the final episode in time for bed, although that could be a little after midnight.
This does rule out many hit shows with multiple seasons, you'll definitely need more than one sitting for that and so they can wait a little longer. Nevertheless, here are my top three recommendations.
A second season of Supacell is on the way
(Image: Netflix)
Supacell
Seasons: 1 Episodes: 6
Approx. total runtime: 5 1/4 hours
Supacell is about a group of five ordinary people who unexpectedly develop superpowers. They have little in common except for one thing: they are all Black South Londoners. It is down to one man, Michael Lasaki, to bring them all together in order to save the woman he loves.
While the storyline sets up a superhero story, there are touches of social commentary on real-world issues such as racial profiling, knife crime, and workplace inequality. Being a British made series, it comes in at a pacey six episodes.
It boasts a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% score and was even nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Drama category. While there is only one season to catch up on right now, a second is reported to be on the way. There is no better time to make sure you're ready for when that lands.
One fan said: "Excellent first season. Fascinating take on the superhero genre. Well written and well acted. Can't help but be drawn into the characters. Can't wait for season 2!"
Supacell is streaming on Netflix.
American Vandal
Fans should at least binge the first season of American Vandal
(Image: Netflix)
Seasons: 2 Episodes: 16
Approx. total runtime: Season One: 4 3/4 hours Season Two: 4 1/2 hours
While there are two seasons of American Vandal, most episodes only stretch to around 30 minutes. The exception is both finales last about 40 minutes total. This makes a one session binge significantly easier. Like Supacell, it also boasts a perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating.
However, if you believe fans who shared their opinion of the series on Reddit, then it is only really the first season you need to catch up on. American Vandal is for those who believe they have watched every true crime documentary available on Netflix. It smartly subverts the genre to comedic effect.
Utilising a mockumentary style, the first season follows the aftermath of a costly high school prank that left 27 cars belonging to staff vandalized with phallic images. Senior class clown Dylan Maxwell is blamed for the incident and expelled.
An aspiring filmmaker and fellow student Peter Maldonado, launches his own investigation into the incident, with help from his friend Sam Ecklund. They are determined to uncover whether Dylan was the one truly behind the crime.
The second season follows Peter and Sam as they investigate a new crime. They are essentially hired by a different school to make a follow up film after their cafeteria's lemonade is contaminated by someone calling themselves The Turd Burglar.
One fan claimed: "This is the only series on Netflix that I have binged in the true sense of the word. The writing is superb, combining mystery and hilarity. Don't miss it."

Living With Yourself
Fans say the 2018 title is the epitome of binge worthy
(Image: Netflix)
Seasons: 1 Episodes: 8
Approx. total runtime: 3 1/2 hours
Most fans agree that this is a binge worthy limited series. It stars comedy favourites Paul Rudd and Aisling Bea and its premise could be an idea for a Black Mirror episode.
However this story goes on for a manageable eight instalments. Miles, played by Rudd is a man struggling in life. When he undergoes a novel spa treatment that promises to make him a better person, he finds he's been replaced by a new and improved version of himself. As he deals with the unintended consequences of his actions, Miles finds he must fight for his wife Kate (Bea), his career, and his very identity.
A fan posted about the show saying: "So perfectly binge worthy, and the only real way to watch it! Classic Paul Rudd- multi-faceted, multi-talented. Can't imagine anyone else in this combination sci-fi dramedy & thoughtful statement on science & society. Very well cast. Absolutely PERFECT ending!!"

Boris Johnson wife Carrie hospitalised weeks after giving birth
Boris Johnson's wife has issued a cautionary message to fellow mothers following her two-night hospital stay this week. Carrie and Boris Johnson celebrated the arrival of their baby girl, Poppy, on May 21, marking Boris' ninth child. The couple, who tied the knot in July 2021, are also parents to sons Wilfred, five, and Frank, one, and daughter Romy, three. Just over a month after welcoming her fourth child, Carrie Johnson found herself being treated in hospital for "severe dehydration, a little over a month since welcoming her fourth child. Carrie revealed on Friday how she had been rushed in for treatment and warned fellow mums to "eat and drink enough in this heat". Taking to Instagram stories, she penned: "Being hospitalised for two nights for my severe dehydration was not on my postpartum bingo card. Breastfeeding mums make sure you eat and drink enough in this heat. Especially if your babe is clusterfeeding." The 37 year old continued: "This week has honestly been brutal. Mastitis (me), reflux (her), dehydration (me). What a pair we are! But thank you for all the kindest messages, especially all the brilliant advice on reflux. Really appreciate it and made me feel way less alone going thru it all," reports the Mirror. Mastitis, an inflammation of breast tissue, is a common condition among breastfeeding women. The former Tory Prime Minister has consistently declined to discuss his personal life, but it's widely believed that he is the father of at least nine children, four of whom are with his current wife, Carrie. He has been down the aisle three times, first with Allegra Mostyn Owen, whom he met during his Oxford University days. After a six-year marriage, they divorced and he married lawyer Marina Wheeler in 1993. Their union lasted a quarter of a century before they parted ways in 2018 amidst whispers of his affair with Carrie, who had previously worked as a Tory PR expert. The couple moved into No10 together following Mr Johnson's ascension to PM in 2019. There's a significant age gap of 24 years between the ex-PM, now aged 60, and media consultant Carrie, who offers glimpses into their private life via her chic Instagram account. On the surface, the pair appear quite dissimilar. Carrie, 37, is a trendy modern mum fond of sharing posts about idyllic family holidays, second-hand Vinted treasures, and lunch dates with her extensive group of friends. In contrast, Boris is renowned for his more conventional preferences - his admiration for classics, Shakespeare, and legendary leaders like Winston Churchill has earned him the label of a British eccentric. On May 29, 2021, Carrie and Johnson exchanged vows in a hush-hush ceremony at Westminster Cathedral, opting for an intimate gathering of just 30 guests due to Covid-19 restrictions. Sharing a photo of herself in her budget-friendly €50 rented wedding dress, Carrie expressed her immense joy, stating she was 'very, very happy'. A year on from their initial nuptials, in the summer of 2022, Johnson and Carrie exchanged vows again in a boho-chic style ceremony. The event took place at a Grade I-listed property in the Cotswolds, owned by one of the leading Conservative Party backers, JCB chairman Lord Bamford. Guests were treated to an open-air banquet, with Carrie adorning a garland of white flowers.

He was Kneecap are due on the Somerset festival's West Holts Stage at 4pm on Saturday. Prime Minister Starmer said it is "not appropriate" for the group to perform at the festival, which started on Thursday. Read more news Asked by The Sun on Sunday if he thinks Kneecap should play, the PM said: 'No I don't. 'I think we need to come down really clearly on this. I won't say too much, because there's a court case on, but I don't think that's appropriate.' Tory leader Kemi Badenoch also said the BBC "should not be showing" the band's set in a post on social media. Her post said: "The BBC should not be showing Kneecap propaganda. Avon and Somerset Police said: "Ticket-holders can once again expect to see uniformed officers on site at Glastonbury Festival 24/7 throughout the festival as part of our extensive policing operation ensuring it is safe for everyone attending, as well as those who live nearby." In response to the charge, Kneecap said in a post: '14,000 babies are about to die of starvation in Gaza, with food sent by the world sitting on the other side of a wall, and once again the British establishment is focused on us... 'Instead of defending innocent people, or the principles of international law they claim to uphold, the powerful in Britain have abetted slaughter and famine in Gaza, just as they did in Ireland for centuries. Then, like now, they claim justification. 'The IDF units they arm and fly spy plane missions for are the real terrorists, the whole world can see it.' Hezbollah - founded in 1982 - is an Iran-backed Shiite militia. The Lebanese terrorist organisation voiced support for the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 2023 before launching guided rockets and artillery shells at Israeli-occupied positions. Israel has retaliated with strikes on Gaza - and the conflict remains ongoing, with thousands of people, including civilian children, killed. Kneecap has said they "do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah", condemned all attacks on civilians, and alleged footage was "deliberately taken out of all context" as part of a "coordinated smear campaign" over their criticism of "the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people". 5 Sir Keir Starmer says it is 'not appropriate' for them to cash in at the festival Credit: Getty 5 Og O hAnnaidh was mobbed by fans outside court earlier this month Credit: AFP
