Shivraj seconds Hosabale's call for review of insertion of secularism, socialism in Preamble
'Secularism is not the core of our culture. That is why there should indeed be a discussion about it. The word 'secularism' was added during the Emergency—there should be deliberation on removing it,' Chouhan said to a question on whether these terms should be removed from the Preamble.
These words, according to the senior BJP leader, were not part of India's civilisational ethos and had been inserted during the 1975 Emergency.
New Delhi: After Dattatreya Hosabale of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan joined the bandwagon demanding a rethink on the relevance of the words secularism and socialism in the Constitution.
In Varanasi, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare also described India as 'an ancient and great nation' founded on the principle of Sarva Dharma Sambhav—equal respect for all faiths.
He emphasised that India, as a civilisation, has long upheld religious harmony and mutual respect across traditions.
'This is the India that, not today but thousands of years ago, said 'Ekam sad vipra bahudha vadanti'—Truth is one, the wise call it by many names,' he said, quoting ancient scripture to underline India's pluralistic tradition.
'This is the India that says 'Munde munde matir bhinna'—every mind is different. It respects differing thoughts and forms of worship.'
Citing Swami Vivekananda's historic speech in Chicago, Chouhan added, 'No matter which path you follow, ultimately all lead to the same supreme truth.'
A day earlier, Hosabale had forcefully argued for reviewing the inclusion of secularism and socialism in the Constitution. The RSS general secretary said the two terms were inserted into the Preamble during the Emergency—bypassing public debate—and were not part of the Constitution originally drafted by B.R.Ambedkar.
Chouhan also questioned the relevance of socialism in contemporary India, asserting that Indian philosophy already embodies egalitarian values through its ancient teachings.
'Atmavat sarvabhuteshu—to see oneself in all beings—is India's fundamental thought. The entire world is one family—this is India's spirit. Live and let live, let there be goodwill among living beings, let the world be well,' he said.
'Sarve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramayah—may all be happy, may all be free of illness—this is India's true sentiment. That's why we don't need socialism,' Chouhan said.
'We've been saying it for years—Sia Ram may sab jag jani—see everyone as one and the same. There is no need for imposed socialism.'
The nation, the Union Minister said, must seriously reflect on this (removal of secularism and socialism from the Constitution.

This phase tested endurance, decision-making, and coordination across command levels, yielding critical insights into joint mission execution, tactical flexibility, and cross-functional integration. Following this phase, the Indian contingent was visited by Sanjeev Singla, Ambassador of India to France and Monaco, who interacted with the troops, lauded their professionalism, and acknowledged their contribution to strengthening India-France defence cooperation. His visit provided a significant morale boost and reaffirmed India's commitment to its enduring strategic partnership with France. Exercise SHAKTI-VIII has reaffirmed itself as a vital platform for the exchange of best practices, the development of integrated operational capabilities, and the deepening of military-to-military trust. West Bengal: Another key accused arrested in Kaliganj blast case, says police
Nadia (West Bengal) [India], June 28 (ANI): The West Bengal police have arrested another key accused in the Kaliganj bomb blast case in the Molandi area of Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station limits. The blast, which resulted in the tragic death of a minor girl, has now led to the arrest of a total of 9 individuals connected to the case. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Gaowal SK. 'In a late-night development, Gaowal SK, one of the key accused in the Kaliganj bomb blast case, was arrested by the Police. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has reached nine, out of the 24 individuals named in the FIR,' the West Bengal police said in an official statement. Earlier, on June 24, Krishnanagar police arrested four individuals in connection with the incident. The arrested accused were Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk, and Anwar Sk. 'In an incident of explosion at Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station area, which led to the death of a minor girl, 4 prime accused persons were arrested yesterday- Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk and Anwar Sk. Kaliganj PS Case No. 534/25 dt 23.06.25 u/s 191(2)/191(3)/190/118(2)/109/305/103 BNS & 3/4 ES Act is registered. Investigation and legal proceedings are underway,' the police said in a post on X. On June 25, BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya made serious allegations regarding the blast, termed it as a 'well-thought-out attack' rather than a mere bomb blast, further claiming that the family targeted in the incident was not a voter or supporter of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). 'It was not a bomb explosion. It was a well-thought-out attack. The family on which the bomb was dropped is not a Trinamool Congress voter or a supporter. In a post on X, West Bengal police confirmed that the 13-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries sustained from the explosion. RSS to complete 100 years in October, celebrations to begin from August 26
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has announced plans to organise Hindu conferences and public outreach programs across the country as part of its centenary year celebrations. Celebrations will begin on August 26 with a lecture series by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat.(PTI) The RSS will complete 100 years of its establishment on Vijayadashami this year. To mark this milestone, celebrations will begin on August 26 with a lecture series by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, which will take place in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. For its centenary year, the RSS has set a goal to reach every block in every state across the country. The organisation considers its local branches (shakhas) its greatest strength and aims to increase the number of shakhas to over one lakh this year. This information was shared by Anil Gupta, Delhi Prant Karyavah, Delhi RSS, during the Dev Rishi Narad Journalism Awards ceremony. He stated that the centenary year celebrations would be inaugurated on August 26 with a three-day lecture series by Mohan Bhagwat in the four major metros. Alongside this, nationwide outreach campaigns will also be conducted. Towards the end of the year, the RSS plans to organise 1,500 to 1,600 Hindu conferences across India. The organisation was founded on Vijayadashami, which falls on October 2 this year, marking its 100th anniversary. Meanwhile, on Thursday, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, speaking at the launch of the biography of late Ayurveda Practitioner and RSS leader Dada Khadiwale in Pune, emphasised that the core principle of RSS is "belongingness." "If the RSS were to be described in one word, it would be 'belongingness'," Bhagwat said, adding that this feeling must grow stronger in society. "If the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were to be described in just one word, that word would be 'belongingness'. What does the Sangh do? It organises Hindus. And this growing sense of belongingness should be further strengthened because the entire world is sustained by it," he added. Bhagwat said that real unity comes from recognising the common thread that connects everyone. Humans, unlike animals, have the ability to rise above selfishness, he explained. "The one who understands this belongingness is truly human," he said.
