Kuala T'ganu bank officer cheated of RM240,000 in vehicle purchase scam
Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said the 52-year-old victim came across an advertisement for a used four-wheel-drive vehicle on Facebook on July 4.
Interested in the offer, the victim clicked on the link and began communicating with the purported seller via WhatsApp, he said.
The victim was told to provide a copy of his MyKad and make an advance payment to a representative of the suspect's company, supposedly based in Port Klang, Selangor.
"Between July 9 and 21, the victim made 40 payments to eight different accounts totalling RM241,700.
"The victim began to suspect he had been cheated when he was asked to pay an additional RM31,000 supposedly for fingerprinting costs at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department," he said in a statement on Monday (July 28).
ACP Azli said the victim lodged a police report on Sunday (July 27) and that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama

The other two crew members joined from Krabi, Thailand, and Singapore, departing Kuantan for their voyage. "On July 28, at 5pm, the Daisy started its voyage and was supposed to arrive at its first checkpoint at Pattani Port, Thailand," he stated. However, the yacht encountered a storm in the waters off Pulau Yu at 2.30pm on Tuesday and is believed to have capsized, with only Ates Demiroren managing to save himself. The rescued victim is currently reported to be weak and is receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital. The Marine Department, the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and the Turkiye Embassy have been informed of the incident for further action. "All matters involving the Turkish nationals will be managed entirely by the Turkiye Embassy, and the rescued victim will be transported home once his condition improves," he added. Man killed after crashing car into 4WD making a turn near Kulai
KULAI: A 30-year-old man was killed in a crash after his car collided with another vehicle that was turning right into a junction. Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at around 7.30pm at KM57 of Jalan Johor Baru–Air Hitam (southbound) on Wednesday (July 30). "The crash is believed to have happened when the victim's car was heading straight from Simpang Renggam towards Kulai. "Upon reaching the location, the victim then crashed into a four-wheel vehicle that was being driven by a man who was making a right turn into a junction," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 31). The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries. 'Meanwhile, the 60-year-old driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor scratches on his head and hand. 'The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said. ACP Tan urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohd Ruslan Mohamed at 013-306 3710 or visit the Kulai district police headquarters' Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.
