The Punisher's Role in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Teased by Kevin Feige — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant3 days ago
When Marvel first introduced The Piunisher antihero on the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #129 back in 1974, it came with the the introduction, 'He's different! He's deadly! He's — THE PUNISHER!'
Co-created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, and John Romita, the character was initially a hired gun working for the Jackal, tasked with taking down Spider-Man over a murder he didn't commit.
From the very beginning, Frank Castle was a lethal wildcard, and while he eventually realized Spidey wasn't his real enemy, their relationship has always been… complicated.
Now, more than 50 years later, the Punisher is coming full circle and coming back to Spider-Man's world, but this time on the big screen. And according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, this team-up (or clash?) is going to be something fans have never seen before.
After Spider-Man: No Way Home left Peter Parker (Tom Holland) erased from everyone's memory, he's finally living as the 'proper Spider-Man' Feige has always envisioned… alone, broke, and patrolling the streets without the Avengers on speed dial.
'[As] sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing, for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories, him being a proper Spider-Man.
'Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with, for lack of a better term, street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters.'
This is where Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes in. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will lean heavily into the street-level side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that means new faces, including Frank Castle. Feige explained:
'When you do that, you say, 'Okay, who are the other street-level characters that we've never seen him interact with?' And of course, I love that Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic, and that great cover.'
Jon Bernthal's Punisher, who made his MCU return in Daredevil: Born Again , is officially stepping into Spider-Man's world. This marks the first time the character will appear in a Spider-Man feature film, a move that feels long overdue considering their comic book history.
Feige wouldn't say too much, but he couldn't help teasing how excited he is for what's coming:
'I don't want to say too much, but Destin, I will say too much, Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie. That starts shooting very soon, and he's got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.'
Details are still under wraps regarding the story, but rumors point to appearances from major crime-centric villains like Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tombstone, which are characters that should make any Spidey fan's ears perk up.
Considering Punisher's war on organized crime, his involvement feels like a natural fit. The big question is… will Frank Castle be hunting Spider-Man like in the comics, or will they begrudgingly team up to take down a bigger threat?
Given Spider-Man's 'wanted man' history after Far From Home and the Punisher's brutal sense of justice, there's a strong chance their first encounter won't exactly be friendly.
But as history shows from Amazing Spider-Man #135 to countless crossovers since, these two have a way of finding common ground when the city needs saving.
Sony Pictures has locked in Spider-Man: Brand New Day for July 31, 2026, giving fans plenty of time to speculate about how this partnership will play out.
Whether Punisher ends up being an ally, an adversary, or something in between, one thing is clear, this is going to be a awesome Spider-Man story unlike any we've seen in the MCU.

'Fantastic Four': Sue Storm's biggest power isn't what you'd expect in superhero movie

Sue Storm's pregnancy and parenthood is the emotional core of this retro-futuristic Marvel movie As we enter Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), The Fantastic Four: First Steps (in theatres July 25) puts the bond of a family at the centre of its storytelling. Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Julia Garner, it's the power of motherhood that becomes the greatest asset for these superheroes. "It always seemed to me kind of revolutionary to have this mother at the centre of this family, but also be absolutely part of the team. Never left at home on her own," Kirby told reporters ahead of the film's release. "And then when I met [director Matt Shakman] and [president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige] for the first time and started talking about Sue, I was already so passionate about her, but it was so exciting to me, this idea of having this pregnant superhero, this working mother, and even in the shooting of it, it was surreal. "I was so included in everything. ... Matt and Kevin were such huge champions of having her be ... as complex and as fierce and as loving and warm and all the things they think feminine really is. ... It was very daunting. I really cared, and it's been a great honour to play her." What is 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' about? In a stand-alone story in the MCU, Fantastic Four sets up the story of four astronauts who return from space with altered DNA due to a cosmic storm, leaving them with superpowers. Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pascal) can stretch to incredible lengths, while his wife Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Kirby) can generate powerful force fields and has the ability to make herself invisible, as her name suggests. Sue's brother Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Quinn) can make himself engulfed in flames, fly and shoot out fire, while Ben Grimm/The Thing's (Moss-Bachrach) body transformed into rock form, giving him super strength. Early in the film we see Sue tell Reed that she's pregnant, something that they've struggled to achieve for some time. But Reed, the supremely intelligent but anxious scientist that he is, not only wants to make the world as safe for his son as possible. He also has concerns about whether their superpowers will impact their child's DNA. "The one thing that I found was kind of anchoring was that somebody that is this smart strangely makes him kind of an innocent when it comes to human interactions and relationships, and either saying the wrong thing or reading the room incorrectly, or finally finding a way to express the thing that burdens him," Pascal said. "And just sort of perplexed a little by the fact that people aren't catching up as quickly as he would, as his mind works." "That was really, really fun to kind of create idiosyncratic behaviour around that. But really at the core for me ... is that he's an incredible codependent, and without them, he doesn't know how to function, and he's lost to his own brain. His identity is related utterly to his family and his position in the family, and protecting them and being protected by them." The Fantastic Four family gets an unexpected visit from the Silver Surfer (Garner), who zooms down to Earth and announces in the middle of Times Square that the planet will be consumed by Galactus (Ralph Ineson). Interestingly, that was Garner's first day of work, and she was "terrified." "It was probably the craziest first day I've ever had on a job," Garner said. "It was 30 feet in the air. There was a construction crane, at night, an earpiece, taking direction with Matt and hearing Vanessa's line. It was wild." The Fantastic Four have to jump into action to try to stop Galactus, but the risk to Sue and Reed's infant son Franklin is something the family has to navigate. New 'Fantastic Four' review: Family dramedy with more VFX than most An appealing and refreshing take on a superhero story, Fantastic Four gives its characters time to sit in more intimate and emotional moments, and that's what makes the film compelling. For Kirby and Pascal's characters, that largely has to do with personal discussions about being parents, balancing their parental responsibilities with, literally, saving Earth. For Ben Grimm, those intimate story elements come through with a flirtatious relationship he has with Rachel Rozman (Natasha Lyonne), a similar arc to Johnny's interactions with the Silver Surfer. While Fantastic Four has all the spectacle of every other superhero movie, it's really a family dramedy with more visual effects than most. But the strongest story element in the film is this focus on how, despite all their extraordinary powers, Sue is supreme as the biggest superpower is being a mom. She is fiercely protective of her child. It's absolutely a cliché, but one that lends itself to the more grounded, humanizing narrative of Fantastic Four. The movie is a pleasing journey, an engaging ride that blends sarcastic humour with deeply emotional moments. The 1960s retro-future aesthetic is particularly appealing, and creates interesting dimensions with the heavy CGI that comes with a superhero film. But while Fantastic Four is an enjoyable watch, it feels more like setup for more storytelling. It is in fact a film that you can watch on its own and have a great time with, but it lacks a bit of excitement because you feel like there is so much more story to tell. Mid- and post-credit scenes in 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' While we won't spoil exactly what these scenes hold, we will advise that there is both a mid-credits scene and post-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and they are important, so make sure you stay until the end.

After Seeing The $80 Galactus Popcorn Bucket In Action, All I Can Think Is ‘Holy Heck It's Gigantic!'

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Now, I'm a popcorn connoisseur, but not a popcorn bucket fanatic. However, I can recognize good game, and am very entertained by the ever-creative and wild designs we've seen, as it feels like each major blockbuster on the 2025 movie schedule tries to one-up each other with their popcorn receptacles. Well, now The Fantastic Four: First Steps has entered the competition with a ginormous Galactus bucket that I can't get over after seeing it in action. Literally, all I could think when I saw a video of this $80 (well, $79.99) popcorn bucket was 'Oh my goodness, it's gigantic!' Obviously, I knew it would be large; I mean, when it was announced by Marvel as part of the lead-up to The Fantastic Four: First Steps' release, it was touted as 'the universe's biggest popcorn vessel.' However, it's hard to fathom just how big 17.5 inches tall and 20 inches wide is until you see it on display at a theater, take a look at @3cfilms TikTok about it: Like Marvel's enormous big bad Galactus, this popcorn bucket is HUGE and that's not even an exaggeration. That's because all popcorn buckets are big to begin with. They hold, typically, a Large amount of the theater snack, and as someone who still uses their Eras Tour bucket, I can confirm it can hold over one large bag of microwave popcorn. So, from the jump, I knew this would be big. But not THIS big. Read More About Other New Popcorn Buckets I Didn't Expect The Naked Gun To Get A Popcorn Bucket, But I'm Cracking Up Over The Deep Cut Reference That Allowed It To Happen However, as this video shows, the bucket made for this upcoming Marvel movie is on a new level of large (I think I'd put at least two extras in front of it). It basically dwarfed the NSFW Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket, and that very odd receptacle was no small item. Also, can we take a minute to talk about the horns? Per AMC (the bucket is also available at Cinemark), those two giant purple pieces double the width of the bucket. When they're not attached, the item is 9.6 inches wide, and with them, it's 20 inches. That's crazy. You need both hands to hold on to that thing, and if you are trying to enjoy the film while eating popcorn out of this bucket and it's fully put together, you might end up poking your seat neighbors. Oh, one more thing, it lights up! And that's sick. (If you buy it, please refrain from turning it on during the movie, save it for when you get home.) I must admit, though, I'm a small person, and I fear that if I were to try and grab popcorn out of this vessel, I'd have to reach up and then into it. That's wild, in my humble opinion. However, it's also pretty cool. Now, will I be spending $80 on this item? No, I won't. I do not have the space in my small apartment for that. But I do think it's sick, and a wonderful item for those who want to own a popcorn bucket that could cast a massive shadow over all others. So, if you are looking to enjoy our first outing with this new Fantastic Four with Galactus by your side, you can pick up this bucket when you go to see First Steps in theaters starting on July 25.
