Jharkhand phone cover seller cracks NEET UG 2025, shares struggle: ‘I ran my shop by day, studied till 3 am'
A video of Kumar speaking to a popular coaching institution's founder and CEO, Alakh Pandey, is doing the rounds on the internet. Sharing his daily routine, Kumar revealed that he did not give up on his shop to study but handled both simultaneously. 'I used to work all day selling phone covers and study till 3 am. Then, I would wake up at 7 am and go back to work,' he said, explaining the daily grind he went through for months.
He further revealed that his father worked at a local vegetable market. His interest in pursuing a career in medicine sparked after he worked at a medical store during the COVID pandemic, he said. After his Class 12 Boards, he dropped out of college to focus on NEET.
In a touching gesture, Pandey gifted Kumar a doctor's coat in the viral video.

The video quickly gained traction with several social media users congratulating Kumar for his remarkable feat. 'His eyes is showing his hard work,' a user wrote. 'Hard work pays off,' another user commented.

This year, Rajasthan's Mahesh Kumar secured AIR 1 in NEET UG with a percentile of 99.9999547 in the General category. Avika Aggarwal from Delhi NCT emerged as the female topper, scoring 99.9996832 percentile, and has secured NEET UG rank 5.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested two men from Maharashtra for allegedly deceiving NEET UG 2025 aspirants and their families by claiming they could manipulate scores, and charging Rs 90 lakh per candidate.

Jaisalmer: Acting principal of the govt school in Jaisalmer's Poonam Nagar village where a seven-year-old student was killed by a collapsing entrance pillar and main gate, was suspended Tuesday. HC orders five-week probe into NEET fraud in BAMS admissions
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed Guru Ravi Dass Ayurved University to complete within five weeks its inquiry into allegations that 15 students of Shiv Shakti Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Moga, were admitted to the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course on the basis of manipulated NEET details. The division bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry, while disposing of the students' petition, kept their results in abeyance and made their continuation in classes and internships strictly provisional. The 15 petitioners, admitted across the 2020 21 and 2021 22 academic sessions, had approached the court against show-cause notices issued by the university threatening cancellation of their admissions. The notices alleged that during the admission process, the petitioners' NEET ranking details were 'incorrectly furnished and deliberately suppressed,' giving an impression that they had qualified the national entrance test. The students had been given five days to explain why their admissions should not be cancelled. During hearings, the university informed the bench that the admissions were facilitated by two admission agents, Tarsem Kumar and Raj Kumar, who had filled the candidates' forms using doctored NEET data. A complaint from Rajbir Singh, a Patiala resident, had led the Vice-Chancellor of Guru Ravi Dass Ayurved University to order a probe. The inquiry was entrusted to Justice Rajiv Narain Raina, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who is presently seized of the matter. On June 16, 2025, the court had allowed the students to appear in their ongoing examinations provisionally. In Tuesday's order, the bench underscored that it would not examine the merits of the allegations to avoid prejudicing the inquiry but found it appropriate to issue directions to balance the interests of the petitioners and the integrity of the ongoing probe. 'The enquiry shall be completed within five weeks; results of the examinations taken under interim orders shall not be declared but will remain subject to the probe's outcome; all petitioners except the two final-year students may attend next semester classes provisionally, and the two final-year students who completed their last-semester exams may start their one-year internship from July 30, also provisionally, all directions being subject to the enquiry's outcome,' the court said in its order . The petitioners' counsel had urged that without declaration of results and permission to progress academically, their careers would be jeopardized, especially for the two senior-most students who had completed their final semester and were required to commence a one-year internship starting July 30. The bench acceded to a limited relief, clarifying that no equity could be claimed by the petitioners if the inquiry ultimately confirmed irregularities. The ruling comes amid heightened scrutiny of irregular admissions in professional courses, particularly where admission agents have been accused of gaming centralised counselling by supplying false NEET data.

On the run for 16 years after highway robbery-murder, 70-year-old woman arrested from home in Ahmedabad
For the last 16 years, Jamna Arjan Chunara had been evading the Gujarat Police. Accused along with several members of her family in a case of highway robbery that turned into that of murder after the death of one of the victims, the woman had been moving from one village to another, one city to another, traversing the length and breadth of the state. In the meantime, her husband and four sons were arrested, convicted, sentenced and, in a couple of cases, even released after serving time. But it was a visit to her home in Ahmedabad's Aslali to meet her daughter that proved to be Jamna's undoing. The woman, now 70, was nabbed by Ahmedabad Rural Police on Tuesday. Jamna was among nine persons who were accused in the case that dates back to March 18, 2009. According to police, a woman named Daksha and her husband Rajesh had left Ghatlodia in Ahmedabad to go back home after the final rites of an acquaintance when, around 9.45 pm, between Kamod and Indiranagar, the 'gang' struck. They waylaid the couple and repeatedly hit them with a laundry bat, grievously injuring them in the process. The gang then proceeded to loot the cash, jewellery and phones of the victims and fled, police said. The couple was spotted by passersby who admitted them to a nearby hospital where Rajesh succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Jamna and eight others were booked under Indian Penal Code's (IPC) sections 302 (murder), 395 (dacoity), 397 (dacoity with deadly weapon), and 400 (punishment for gang of dacoits) in the FIR filed at Aslali police station based on a complaint from Daksha, the survivor. Sub inspector R B Rathod of the Local Crime Branch (LCB), who nabbed Jamna, told The Indian Express, 'There were a total of nine accused in the case. Of them, eight had been arrested. Subsequently, seven were found guilty by the trial court and sentenced to either seven years or life imprisonment based on whether they were found guilty for dacoity or murder. One accused was acquitted. Meanwhile, Jamna was never arrested in the case and had been absconding for the last 16 years.' SI Rathod said that in the period Jamna was on the run, her husband Arjan had died during Covid period while two of her sons had been released from prison after their incarceration. However, the other two, including the one who was sentenced to life imprisonment, are still behind bars. Since Jamna was never caught, the police said that her trial was never conducted. Police said it took more than one-and-a-half decades to track Jamna since she used to be constantly on the run. During this time, she lived in Rajkot, Surat and several other towns, they added. They managed to finally track her down when she went home to Aslali to meet her daughter, said police.
