South Korean actor Gong Yoo was exonerated after a woman falsely accused him of harassment. The Daejeon District Court sentenced her to six months in prison.
South Korean actor Gong Yoo has been legally exonerated after a woman who falsely accused him of harassment was found guilty of defamation. The case, which garnered significant public interest, concluded on July 29 with the Daejeon District Court's Criminal Division 5 issuing a suspended sentence to the defendant.
Identified only as 'A', the woman in her 40s was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years of probation. The court held her accountable for violating South Korea's Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilisation and Information Protection.
Between January 2020 and March 2021, the woman posted 235 defamatory statements across various online platforms, falsely alleging that Gong Yoo was threatening and harassing her. One of the most notable incidents occurred during a live broadcast by Gong Yoo in January 2020, where the woman commented: 'I'm being threatened from behind, and there isn't a single day I haven't been threatened." She further claimed: 'He torments me to the point of neurosis."
Following an investigation, authorities confirmed that there was no personal connection between the actor and the accused, and all her claims were found to be fabricated. The court remarked: 'The claims made by A are completely groundless and, beyond that, she repeatedly spread false information over a long period."
Highlighting the impact of such misinformation on public figures, the court noted: 'Even though the victim is a public figure and naturally subject to public attention, the nature of the crime is very serious."
The woman's prior criminal history also played a role in the proceedings. 'Although the defendant has two prior convictions for similar offenses, her acknowledgment of the crime and her intention to receive treatment at a hospital were taken into account in sentencing," the court explained.
Gong Yoo, known for roles in Goblin, Train to Busan, and Squid Game, has not publicly commented on the verdict.

BTS records Michael Jackson's unreleased 2006 song for tribute album: Here's everything we know so far

BTS has been eerily quiet this last week, and overall, ever since the members reunited after the completion of each of their military services. Well, it looks like it was all for a reason! According to a report from The Irish Sun, the group has been working on recording a new song, written by none other than the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. The news hit the stands on July 4, and with that, the mania of disbelief and praise followed for the South Korean septet that has redefined what K-pop means in the West. What is BTS' contribution to Michael Jackson's unreleased art? Said to have been written in 2006 with some of the best names in town, and meant for release in what would be the icon's next album, these tracks have been in the archives for close to 2 decades. Penned in a converted cow shed at Grouse Lodge, Ireland, the songs were meant to be his next major comeback, but they never got to see the light of day. Grouse Lodge studio owner Paddy Dunning spoke in an interview about the fate of this record, which was previously rumored to be a part of a tribute album. Now, 'global superstars' are being roped in to record these songs, and who better than the hottest name in musical land, BTS. 'The sessions started last year, and we have already had the Korean boy band BTS over with us in Grouse Lodge, recording one of the songs,' he revealed. Speaking about the other artists rumored to be on the project, without giving too much away, he added, 'There are about ten more tracks, written especially for Michael by his collaborators here in Ireland, including producer Rodney Jerkins and rapper Nephew, who are fully on board with the project.' Meanwhile, the BTS members have been working on their own comeback album, eyeing a spring 2026 release. With teamwork going down in Los Angeles, as the singers fly between South Korea and the United States, fans wait eagerly for any updates. So far, the group has not commented on their work on Michael Jackson's music.

UP: Inspired by Premanand Govind Sharan, boy runs away from home to become seer

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 4 (PTI) Inspired by Vrindavan-based spiritual guru Premanand Govind Sharan Ji Maharaj, a 13-year-old boy from Gorakhpur ran away from home to become a seer. The boy, identified as Aman Dubey, son of Amarnath Dubey, was eventually found near a ghat in Varanasi after a police-led search using CCTV footage and surveillance. 'I want to become like Sant Premanand Maharaj. That's why I left home. I first came to Varanasi and planned to stay at a temple here for a few days before heading to Mathura to be in his refuge," Aman told the police after being rescued. A resident of Bimutia village under the Barhalganj police station limits, Aman left for school on August 1 as usual but didn't return home. When he didn't come back even by 8 pm, his worried family members launched a search and eventually filed a missing report the next day. Police began scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas, including bus stops and railway stations. In one of the recordings, Aman was seen boarding a train from Dohrighat towards Varanasi. His photo was shared with GRP and local police in Varanasi, who finally traced him near a ghat, police said. The GRP handed him over to the local child welfare body, Childline. His parents, accompanied by Gorakhpur police, left for Varanasi on Monday to bring him back, police said. 'He never shared anything with us, but he was deeply motivated by the teachings," said Amarnath Dubey, a furniture businessman. SHO of Barhalganj police station, Chandrabhan Singh, confirmed that the boy is safe and will be brought back home soon.
