Odisha shocker! Minor girl raped with hands and legs tied in Ganjam, third incident reported in a month
A 22-year-old man was arrested by the police from a village under the jurisdiction of the Golanthara police station on Tuesday over the charge of raping the minor.
The incident occurred on June 28, and the complaint was filed with the police on June 30, a police officer told PTI.
The report comes days after a college student was gang raped at Gopalpur beach on June 15 and the rape of two girls within the jurisdiction of Golanthara police station on June 6.
The police said the accused and the 11-year-old victim underwent medical tests in the recent case. The girl's statement has also been recorded, the report stated.
According to the police, the accused is a distant relative of the minor girl, who is a resident of the same village. The police arrested the accused from a village nearby.
As per the complaint lodged by the mother of the victim, the accused forcibly took the girl to the toilet of the school, tied her hands and legs before raping her, the report said citing the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Berhampur, Saravana Vivek M, who shared the details from the complaint letter.
The accused had fled the location. However, a villager located her and rescued her.
The case has been filed against the accused under several sections of the BNS and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and a probe has been launched, the SP told PTI.
This is the third rape case in the district in one month. The district police was investigating the minor rape case from 6th June, while the Crime Branch of Odisha Police is examining the Gopalpur gang rape case, the report said.

2023 Parliament security breach: Delhi HC grants bail to two accused
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday (July 2, 2025) granted bail to Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat, two accused in the 2023 Parliament security breach case, but barred them from talking about the incident to the press or on social media. A Bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar granted the reprieve on a personal bond of ₹50,000 each and two sureties. 'They shall not give interviews or make any statement regarding the case before the press or social media. The accused had challenged a trial court's order rejecting their bail pleas. The trial court had found sufficient evidence to believe that the allegations were 'prima facie' true. Delhi Police had opposed the bail applications, alleging that the accused intended to bring back 'haunted memories' of the 2001 Parliament attack. The security breach occurred on December 13, 2023, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. During the incident, the co-accused, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D., allegedly jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour. They released yellow gas from canisters and sloganeered before being overpowered by some MPs. Around the same time, another accused, Amol Shinde, and Ms. Azad allegedly sprayed coloured gas from canisters outside Parliament premises while shouting 'tanashahi nahi chalegi (dictatorship won't work)'. According to the police, preliminary inquiries revealed that Ms. Azad and Mr. Shinde were associates of Mr. Sharma and Mr. Manoranjan, and together carried out the terror act. Delhi Police had arrested Mr. Kumawat on December 16 on charges of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence. Earlier, the court had sought clarification from the police on whether the act of carrying or using a smoke canister within Parliament premises or outside would invoke provisions under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and if such an act would come under the definition of terrorist activities.

Taxes Department conducts massive raids against business entities across Kashmir
Srinagar, July 2 (UNI) The State Taxes Department Kashmir today conducted massive raids against the business entities involved in alleged fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) practices, officials said. The meticulously executed raids, planned over the past month, unearthed significant instances of tax fraud, reinforcing the department's commitment towards curbing the fraudulent tax practices, an official spokesman said. The raids were also aimed at a resolute effort to safeguard the public revenue and ensure compliance with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. The spokesman said the raids were initiated based on credible intelligence inputs regarding widespread misuse of ITC provisions, particularly in Kashmir, where certain commodities such as iron, cement and steel have been identified as highly susceptible to tax evasion. The investigation cell of the State Taxes Department conducted A thorough research over the past 30 days to identify the entities involved in generating fake invoices and passing ineligible ITC, the spokesman said. The department's proactive approach was driven by a 'reason to believe' that fraudulent practices were causing substantial revenue losses to the exchequer. The investigation zeroed in on sectors such as iron, cement and steel and other high-value commodities known for their vulnerability to tax evasion. These sectors have been exploited through fake billing and shell companies to fraudulently claim ITC without actual supply of goods or services in violation of the Act and rules. The State Taxes Department's enforcement team, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner State Taxes Department Kashmir, Parveez Ahmad Raina, worked tirelessly to map out the complex web of transactions and pinpoint the perpetrators. The crackdown was proposed and executed under the leadership of Commissioner State Taxes J&K, P.K. Bhat. The operation comprised seven specialised teams, properly trained and adequately equipped, each led by a State Tax Officer (STO) and supported by a dedicated team of inspectors and Sub-Inspectors. These teams were tasked with conducting simultaneous raids in the early hours today across multiple locations across North Kashmir, targeting the businesses and individuals suspected of orchestrating fake ITC rackets. Over the past month, the team cross-referenced GST returns and conducted physical verifications to identify discrepancies in ITC claims. The underlying aim is to create a robust and transparent tax regime, deterring fraudsters from exploiting loopholes and encouraging the honest taxpayers to contribute to the region's economic progress, the spokesman said. Secunderabad trio, local supplier held with 2kg ganja
Nagpur: A gang of ganja peddlers were arrested after a Nagpur police crime branch patrol team intercepted three men near Metro pillar between Chhatrapati Chowk and Coca-Cola Chowk late Tuesday night. The accused, all residents of Secunderabad, were found carrying 1.8kg ganja. A follow-up led to the arrest of their Nagpur-based supplier. The patrol team flagged the trio to stop after spotting them loitering in a zone known for high footfall but no late-night activity. When stopped and questioned, the men gave their names as Michael Jacob Harry Anthony (32), Saikumar Kashipatti Anutulla (32), and Deepak Narendra Katti (23) all of whom hail from Chacha Nehru Nagar, Bansalpeth, Secunderabad, Telangana. Their bags were searched on the spot. One contained a tightly wrapped haul of ganja, weighing nearly 1.8 kg. The men offered no resistance. During questioning, they immediately revealed their identity and the name of their supplier, Mohammad Sadiq Mohammad Rauf (43), a resident of Satranjipura, opposite Badi Masjid, in Nagpur's Lakadganj area. Based on the input, Sadiq was picked up from his residence. Senior PI Pankaj Bondse from the Pratap Nagar police station told TOI that the supplier picked up ganja from another one from Mominpura. "They are not highly educated. One of these is illiterate, while the others have studied till 7th and 9th grade," he said and added that they are newbies and have a clean record. All four have been charged under Sections 8(a), 20(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They have been handed over to Pratap Nagar police for further legal action. The operation was led by PI Amol Deshmukh and PSI Sachin Bhonde, under the supervision of Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and ACP Abhijit Patil. Further investigation is on to trace the source of the supply chain and identify more local links. Police suspect that it wasn't the gang's first drop in the city.
