Untaxed alcohol network in Johor busted
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the arrest and seizure dismantled the storage and distribution of untaxed alcoholic beverages here.
'Following cooperation with Bukit Aman and based on intelligence and public information, we raided a double-storey terrace house at about 10.30am on May 7.
'The raid led to the arrest of a 36-year-old trader at the scene. Checks at the premises and two multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) found 185 cartons of beer as well as 35 boxes of beer and liquor bottles,' he said during the press conference at the district police headquarters here yesterday.
He added that the total value of the seized contraband, together with the two MPVs, was estimated to be more than RM316,000.
'Further checks revealed that the vehicles had been fitted with fake number plates to hide the illegal activity from authorities.
'The suspect owns one of the MPVs, while he has been renting the other vehicle together with the house, which he used to store the contraband items.'
ACP Raub said the man had been running the operation alone for the past six months, adding that he has no prior record and tested negative for drugs.
He said the initial investigation found that the suspect had been buying the alcohol at the Forest City duty-free zone before selling it at market price to businesses and individuals here.
He added that samples have been taken from the seized beers and liquor before sending them to the Chemistry Department and Customs Department for further analysis and evaluation.
ACP Raub said the suspect has been remanded to help with investigations under Section 135(1)(D) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 108(3)(F) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Man killed after crashing car into 4WD making a turn near Kulai
KULAI: A 30-year-old man was killed in a crash after his car collided with another vehicle that was turning right into a junction. Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at around 7.30pm at KM57 of Jalan Johor Baru–Air Hitam (southbound) on Wednesday (July 30). "The crash is believed to have happened when the victim's car was heading straight from Simpang Renggam towards Kulai. "Upon reaching the location, the victim then crashed into a four-wheel vehicle that was being driven by a man who was making a right turn into a junction," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 31). The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries. 'Meanwhile, the 60-year-old driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor scratches on his head and hand. 'The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said. Parents Reject RM100,000 Settlement, Demand Justice

On 30 April this year, Yu Zie was found unconscious in his school van at around noon. The boy had been left forgotten inside the vehicle for approximately five hours and died from suffocation. The 57-year-old van driver was scheduled to appear in court on 17 June but failed to show up, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant. Parents' Emotional Plea At a recent tearful press conference, Yu Zie's mother and father expressed their devastation. 'Can RM100,000 buy back my child's life? Even if you gave me RM1 million, I don't want it. I just want my child back!' sobbed the mother, her eyes red from crying.
