"Big Bang Theory" Spinoff Series "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe" Is Moving Forward

Yara Sameh
The 'Big Bang Theory' spinoff series 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' has been greenlit at HBO Max.
The series was originally announced as being in development back in April 2023.
As previously reported, the cast of the series is made up of 'Big Bang Theory' alums Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie.
The series hails from co-creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady.
'We're excited to be continuing the legacy of 'The Big Bang Theory.' Much like the original series, this new chapter wouldn't be possible without the vision and storytelling brilliance of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, as well as Zak Penn, who has brought fresh insight and a distinctive voice to an already exceptional creative team,' said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content.
HBO Max has also officially confirmed plot details for the show for the first time. The logline states: 'Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (Sussman) is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise (Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Posehn), and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke (Bowie). Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we've come to know and love from 'The Big Bang Theory.' As the title implies, things don't go well.'
'I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on 'The Big Bang Theory,' would have loved, hated, and argued about,' Lorre said.
The series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre is under an overall deal.
Lorre, Penn, and Prady are also executive producers.
'I was on a vision quest in the most remote parts of the Amazon Rainforest when a carrier pigeon arrived with a note from Chuck Lorre asking if I wanted to help make a show that the characters from 'Big Bang Theory' would watch,' Penn said. 'I couldn't resist that idea, so I packed up my yurt and hailed the next dirigible out. At the same time, Chuck sent an expedition to locate Bill Prady, who had been frozen with his shield across his chest in a block of arctic ice. The team assembled, we set out to make this insane show, which lives in a universe created by Chuck and Bill. I couldn't be more honored to be working with these amazing people.'
This will now be the fourth show in the 'Big Bang' universe. Aside from the mothership show, which ran for 12 highly-rated seasons on CBS, the prequel 'Young Sheldon' wrapped up its own seven-season run at the broadcast network in May 2024.
A spinoff of that show, 'Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage' starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, debuted on CBS on October 17, 2024.
This also marks the first series pickup announced since Max officially rebranded (or re-rebranded) itself as HBO Max.
'The process of writing this show with Chuck and Zak has been damn fun, and I'm certain that joy will come through the screen,' Prady said. 'Putting characters we loved from 'The Big Bang Theory' into a complex science fiction story with the kind of mythology that those characters love while maintaining the comedic elements is incredibly satisfying.'
'Chuck and Bill have given us one of the most enduring comedies of our time with 'The Big Bang Theory,' and we can't wait to see the universe continue with this new series,' added Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks. 'With the help of Zak — a masterful storyteller — this next iteration promises to capture the essence of what fans loved about the original series, but with a completely fresh twist. We thank our partners HBO Max for joining us on this next adventure.'
Speaking at a panel at the Banff World Media Festival in June, Lorre teased that the new show would be quite the departure from 'The Big Bang Theory' in terms of its look onscreen.
'There's a lot of CGI,' Lorre revealed. 'There's a lot of special technical stuff that — you know, for me in my career, a big production number was two people sitting on a couch, drinking coffee! This is different. This is trying to incorporate some of that world of science fiction/fantasy into a comedy. And I'm completely out of my element, which is what I wanted. Which is what I was hoping to do, something that I had no experience with. And maybe I can learn as we go.'

'It' Prequel Series 'Welcome to Derry' Drops New Trailer

Yara Sameh 'It' prequel series, 'Welcome to Derry', is bringing everyone's favorite killer clown to the small screen later this year. The second teaser for the upcoming HBO series was unveiled Saturday night at a spooky late-night San Diego Comic-Con panel before it was released online Sunday. In the clip, viewers catch a glimpse of the panic that ensues as a nefarious force begins to creep its way into Derry, and children start disappearing. The footage primarily focuses on Taylour Paige, who plays a young woman who has just moved to Derry with her husband, when things start to go awry in the small town. Despite Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise briefly appearing at the end, his presence is felt throughout. Taking place in the world of Stephen King's IT universe, "Welcome to Derry" expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films, which amassed a combined $1.17 billion worldwide. Set 27 years before the events of the two 'It' movies, the show begins in the 1960s, in the time leading up to the events of 2017's 'It: Part One'. As the story goes, the murderous entity It feeds on children before hibernating for 27 years, so the show follows It's previous killing spree before the events of the 'It' films. 'Welcome to Derry' cast also includes Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. 'This is a book we love a lot, and we felt that there was still a lot of story to be covered,' Andy Muschietti and his sister and producing partner Barbara Muschietti said in a previous statement. 'It's so rich with characters and events, we thought we would do justice to the book and the fans by going back into this world. Specifically, we are telling the stories of the interludes, writings by Mike Hanlon based on his investigation that includes interviews he conducts with the older people in the town. In Welcome to Derry, we touch on the usual themes that were talked about in the movie — friendship, loss, the power of unified belief — but this story focuses also on the use of fear as a weapon, which is one of the things that is also relevant to our times.' 'Welcome to Derry' is produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, with a story by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. They executive produce alongside Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin. Fuchs, who wrote the teleplay for the first episode, is a co-showrunner with Kane. The series was developed for television by "It" filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, as well as Jason Fuchs. Muschietti, who directed 'It: Part One' and 2019's 'It: Part Two', is attached to executive produce the series along with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Fuchs is writing the first episode of the series, based on a story by him and the Muschiettis. Andy will also direct multiple episodes, including the first. Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with the Muschiettis also executive producing via their Double Dream production company. Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin also executive produce. The series is produced by HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television. 'It' was previously adapted into a two-part miniseries for ABC back in 1990, featuring Tim Curry as Pennywise. 'Welcome to Derry' will debut on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max in October. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

"Captain Planet and the Planeteers" Live-Action Series in Development

Yara Sameh 'Captain Planet and the Planeteers,' an animated TBS series from the '90s about an environmentalist superhero, is being adapted into a live-action series by Netflix. Tara Hernandez, best known for creating 'Mrs. Davis' on Peacock and writing on 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Young Sheldon,' has been tapped to pen the script of the show. Executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions and Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson via Appian Way. Warner Bros. Television, where Berlanti Productions is under an overall deal, is the studio behind the show. The 1990s-era Captain Planet cartoons 'Captain Planet and the Planeteers' and 'The New Adventures of Captain Planet' were produced by DIC Entertainment and Hanna-Barbera and aired on TBS and in syndication from 1990 to 1996. The character was the brainchild of Barbara Pyle and Turner founder Ted Turner, who wanted to address environmental issues and attract young viewers by placing those themes inside a story of superheroes and villains. That show featured voice actors including Ed Asner, Whoopi Goldberg and LeVar Burton. 'Captain Planet' has been in development as a live-action adaptation in many forms over the years. Glen Powell had previously been writing a 'Captain Planet' movie for DiCaprio, first revealed in 2018 and as recently as 2023 he told reporters that his 'subversive and fun and dark and irreverent' take was still in development. In 2011, 'Transformers' film franchise producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford pacted with Cartoon Network to develop a live-action feature based on the character. According to the Captain Planet Foundation, 'In the show, Gaia, the spirit of the planet, assembles a team of five young 'planeteers' from nations around the world, who can summon Captain Planet to help them solve ecological and other global problems 'by their powers combined.' The show was widely acclaimed for its treatment difficult issues such as pollution, poaching, deforestation, as well as more social issues including drug addiction, HIV/ AIDS, and bullying in a way that educated, entertained, but also activated its young audience.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
