KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) will take firm action, including imposing penalties and terminating the services of solid waste management concessionaires that fail to fulfil their responsibilities.
Its Minister, Nga Kor Ming, said that all local authorities (PBT) are urged to closely monitor cleanliness levels in their respective areas, and ensure that concessionaires carry out solid waste collection efficiently and in accordance with the established schedule.
'Solid waste management services are crucial, not only in tourist destinations, but also in residential areas, as they directly impact the comfort and well-being of the people.
'For concessionaires that fail to deliver satisfactory service, such as neglecting scheduled garbage collection or failing to meet their scope of work, KPKT will not hesitate to impose penalties or terminate their contracts,' he said, in a statement, today.
Nga said that residents in seven states governed under Act 672 can lodge complaints related to garbage collection, road and drain cleaning, public area maintenance, and grass cutting, through the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), via WhatsApp at 013-210 7472.
'I have instructed SWCorp to carry out immediate cleaning works, including in hillside areas that fall outside the scheduled scope, as part of their corporate social responsibility,' he said.
He added that a surprise inspection was also conducted in the area today, to ensure the cleaning efforts had been properly executed.
Nga also expressed his appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for highlighting the issue of clogged drains and garbage accumulation around Jalan Gallagher, here, last Saturday.

In a statement, Paetongtarn said the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee, held from July 6 to 16 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, had officially acknowledged the listing of Wat Arun's central pagoda on the Tentative List. bootstrap slideshow 'The listing initiates the formal process that could lead to the temple's full recognition as a World Heritage Site,' she said in a statement published by the Public Relations Department on Monday. 'The participant screening process was conducted online from May 19 to 23 and was assessed by an experienced panel of judges to ensure fairness and transparency,' he said during the pre-launch ceremony of the MTHQA here today. This year's assembly carries the theme 'Developing a MADANI Ummah', and will be officially opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Aug 2. He explained that judging for the Recital category will focus on four core aspects: tajwid (pronunciation accuracy), tarannum (melodic recitation), fasahah (fluency), and vocal quality, while the Memorisation category will be assessed based on memorisation accuracy and fluency. On the selection of the theme, Mohd Na'im said it aligns with Malaysia's vision of developing a highly civilised society, not only in terms of infrastructure and physical development but also in spiritual, intellectual, and moral dimensions. He noted that Malaysia has long been recognised as a leading host of the MTHQA since its inception on March 8, 1961, with one of its notable achievements being the Best Quran Programme Award in 2016 from the Kuwait International Prize for the Holy Quran.
