The reward scheme has been a highlight for players over the last three years, with campaigns and purchases that offer points.
It was designed as a way to bring communities of PlayStation players together through a loyalty programme that could help users be celebrated.
Points are able to be accumulated through playing games, and be exchanged for free store credit to buy new games, or get extra money off their purchase.
Vice President at PlayStation, Grace Chen, said in a statement: "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends.
"Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars."

The statement continued: "We want to thank all of our players for supporting PlayStation Stars since the launch in 2022.
"As we explore new ways to evolve our loyalty program efforts for the future, we'll continue to celebrate all of our players through the various community activities we have planned."
What users can do as the changes come
A new campaign which is available to all players, and not just those subscribed to PlayStation Plus, has dropped.
'It's fun as hell' cheer PS5 owners after finding freebie inside consoles and say they 'sure felt stupid' for missing it
It is for PlayStation Tournaments, and offers 25 points to players who compete in any PlayStation 5 tournament.
Fans have been offering advise on Reddit about which games to play to snap up these points.
There are a few options.
'Download EA SPORTS FC 25 SHOWCASE (which is free) and in the game hub select to participate in the tournament," one user noted.
Another added: 'You also might be able to use NBA 2K25."
Others have recommended playing Naraka Bladepoint due to being a good game to boot up and compete in.
The points can be gained after accepting the campaign in the PlayStation app and completing the goal.
This should be done before the game is started up.
Points will be added within the app, and can be redeemed against the PSN store credit.
This is likely to be one of PlayStation Stars' last campaigns, so users should get in quick to claim their credit voucher if already accumulated a good amount of points.

PS5 owners warned consoles ‘overheating' if you play popular game as console ‘pushed to limits' & ‘goes into overdrive'

PLAYSTATION 5 owners have been warned that a new game may be overheating their consoles. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which launched earlier this month, has been hyped up over the game's "stunning" graphics. 1 But the high-definition game is launching people's consoles into overdrive, players have reported on social media. "I've been playing the game on a base PS5 and overall it runs great – the graphics are stunning and I've had no issues during regular gameplay," one player wrote on Reddit. "But as soon as I pause the game and the map screen comes up, the fan suddenly goes into overdrive and I get an overheat warning. "It's strange because everything else runs smoothly, even during long gameplay sessions. "But the moment I bring up the map and start planning a route, the fan suddenly goes crazy and I get an overheating warning." Consoles routinely overheat if they are kept in crowded spots, or are left to get dusty. However, the overheating issue is even happening with well-ventilated and freshly cleaned consoles, the player claimed. While the game's creators rushed to fix the problem with a new update, it doesn't appear to have worked, PushSquare reported. 'I've got the exact same problem,' another player said. "I'm using an original PS5 digital version. Fans start screaming only on map menu." The issue is isolated to the base PS5, according to PushSquare, with PS5 Pro players reportedly spared the problem. Gaming consoles may be more susceptible to overheating at the moment as warm weather spikes in parts of the UK, Europe and the US. Though it's worth noting that there may be more to the overheating issue, such as a memory leak.

PS Plus Essential July 2025 games release time, when you can download them

PS Plus Essential subscribers have been treated to an impressive line-up of games this month, with Diablo 4 set to be available to download for free very soon More PS Plus games are on the horizon for Essential subscribers, with Diablo 4 leading the pack for a fresh dose of dark adventure. A new batch of PS Plus games has been officially announced. It's welcome news for subscribers, particularly as this month's lineup is notably robust for Essential subscribers. ‌ The early unveiling of the PS Plus Essential July 2025 games was quite a surprise, with Diablo 4 being revealed as the service's main attraction, arriving just as the Season 8 end date appears and ushers in a new wave of live service content. ‌ The game will be featured alongside The King of Fighters 9 and rising indie title Jusant, making for an impressive month of complimentary games for subscribers. This should help soften the blow for players who must continue to pay for their online services, while PC gamers largely avoid this cost. The timing is also fortuitous, especially given that excitement for FBC: Firebreak from the PS Plus Extra and Premium June 2025 games waned disappointingly quickly upon its release, despite its distinct Remedy feel. Fortunately, players now have a new online title to delve into with their mates. However, before we can dive into the new games, they need to be released. It's important to remember that this will push out the previous games from the service, so there's a collection of games to grab before they disappear. Here's what you need to know about the PS Plus Essential July 2025 games release time. Xbox hardware ‘is dead' says former Microsoft exec in scathing YouTube video

One of the original Xbox team members has criticised the current state of Microsoft and how it seems to be abandoning the console market. When Microsoft announced it would start bringing Xbox exclusives to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, including older games like Gears Of War, many wondered if this meant the company would exit the hardware business entirely. Since then, sales of the Xbox Series X/S have only worsened and, in 2023, Microsoft admitted it had lost the console war to PlayStation. However, despite this, Microsoft remains committed to new hardware and is promising multiple Xbox consoles for the next generation. There's also the new handheld Microsoft has partnered with Asus on – the ROG Xbox Ally – but former Xbox executive, Laura Fryer believes this handheld's existence is the precursor to a 'slow exit' from the hardware business and proof that Xbox hardware 'is dead.' Fryer was one of the first members of Microsoft Gaming Studios and the team that worked on the original Xbox, having joined the company in 2000. She would eventually become an executive producer during the Xbox 360 era, before leaving to join Warner Bros. in 2009 and later Epic Games in 2012. She appears to have retired from the games industry since then but she currently runs a YouTube channel to discuss gaming and provide her own insight. In her latest video about the future of the Xbox brand, Fryer doesn't pull her punches. She criticises many of Microsoft's business decisions in recent years, such as the closure of Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks and the decision to start charging $80 for certain games in the US. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Regarding Microsoft's current Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, which is built around the idea of being able to access Xbox games on any platform, Fryer believes this is a sign that the company is putting all its focus on driving more customers to the Xbox Game Pass service and letting Asus handle the hardware side of things. 'This wasn't surprising. Hardware is expensive to make. It's much easier to slap an Xbox sticker on an existing piece of hardware and call it a day,' says Fryer, referencing how the ROG Xbox Ally is really no different to the current ROG Ally already on the market. She doesn't mention the rumour of Microsoft abandoning plans for its own custom handheld device, to focus on its 'software platform.' If true, this would back up her argument, although Microsoft's most recent next gen announcement already seems to counter that rumour, insisting its 'portfolio of devices' will include handhelds. 'If you don't care about console sales of exclusive games anymore, why bother innovating in hardware?' Fryer continues, adding that the whole Xbox Play Anywhere push is pure marketing with 'no substance' and Microsoft's history of pivoting means it could very well change its mind in the future. Fryer also believes there's no good reason to invest in the ROG Xbox Ally since it has no exclusive games to call its own, it forces customers into using Windows 11 (which she admits she's biased against), and despite Microsoft's slogan of being able to play all your games anywhere, the device only runs native PC games. Fryer is clearly very upset at how Microsoft has changed over the years and how 'it looks like they're abandoning pretty much everything that made the Xbox brand great in the first place.' Fryer continues, 'As one of the founding members of the Xbox team, I'm not pleased with where things are today. I don't love watching all of the value that I helped create slowly get eroded away. More Trending 'I'm sad because from my perspective, it looks like Xbox has no desire or literally can't ship hardware anymore. So this [Asus] partnership is about a slow exit from the hardware business completely. Personally, I think Xbox hardware is dead.' Again, Microsoft has confirmed plans for more Xbox consoles, though little has been shared about them aside from promises of 'deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences.' The new consoles will also be backwards compatible with existing Xbox libraries and there could be hints of them supporting third party storefronts like Steam and the Epic Games Store (something it's already bringing to the Xbox PC app later this year). However, these all sound like conveniences for established Xbox customers. Sony's PlayStation 6, while similarly nebulous, will likely be just as powerful and presumably continue to receive ports of Xbox games, so the question remains: why would anyone who's not already bought into the Xbox ecosystem jump ship?
