CM to launch development works in Indi on July 9
He was speaking at a preparatory meeting organised at the Indi Mini Vidhana Soudha.
The projects include 19 lake filling works, Thidagundi lift irrigation expansion, Horti Revanasiddeshwar lift irrigation work phase-2 and 3, construction of Tadavalaga KGBV school building, residential school for workers' children, Maulana Abul Kalam residential school, Morarji Desai residential school for minorities, work on additional rooms of the Technical Education Department, a glimpse of the Government First Class College, inauguration of the veterinary hospital in Miragi village, improvement of Lalasangi lake in Indi taluk, works of the Public Works Department, construction of a boys' hostel in Lachyana village, construction of various community buildings, CC road work, inauguration of Mega market, ground breaking ceremony for construction of bridge-cum-barrage for the Miragi village stream, various developments of the city's taluka stadium.
Mr. Yashwant also said the inauguration, dedication and foundation stone laying of various development works including the ground-breaking ceremony of the works and the ground-breaking ceremony of the Pragati Path project.
Deputy Commissioner T. Bhoobalan and Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbaragi asked officers to take all necessary precautions and measures to ensure smooth conduct of the function.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rishi Anand, Assistant commissioner Anuradha Vastrad, Tahsildar V.S. Kadakabhavi and other district and taluk level officials were present.

Activists demand Devadasi survey without condition of age limit
As preparations are under way for the third survey of Devadasis in Karnataka, the community members have urged the State government to conduct the door-to door survey without fixing any age limit to identify the Devadasis — now concentrated mostly in 15 northern districts. The Bengaluru-based National Law School of India University (NLSIU), which is spearheading efforts to bring a new legislation for Devadasis, has also petitioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah against any age limit. While the fresh survey — a long-pending demand of the community — had been announced in the 2024-2025 Budget, the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) recently directed the government to complete the survey and come out with recommendations before this October. It is learnt that the survey is being planned to be conducted through the offices of taluk-level child development officers, where Devadasis are expected to go and provide their details. While circulars so far have been silent on the age, community members have been pointing to past surveys which were conducted similarly from offices and had kept out women below 45 years. Banned in 1982 The centuries-old practice of dedication of women to temples as Devadasis has been banned in the State since 1982 when the Karnataka Devadasis (Prohibition of Dedication) Act was enacted. Subsequently, the government conducted surveys in 1993-1994 and 2007-2008, when 22,873 and 46,660 Devadasis, respectively, were identified. However, Yamunurappa, coordinator of Vimuktha Devadasi Mahila Mathu Makkala Vedike, claimed that a similar number of Devadasis have remained outside the list owing to several issues. 'I did not even know of a survey being conducted. I have a Devadasi certificate, but I am not on the list. I do not get any pension,' 74-year-old Honnamma from Harikere in Harappanahalli of Vijayanagara district said, pointing to a lack of awareness. Being on the list becomes important for receiving rehabilitation benefits including ₹2,000 monthly pension. The demand for house-to-house survey by the team, which should include former Devadasis, has come in the light of allegations that many non-Devadasis were getting included in the current list and receiving benefits. Stigma, lack of awareness 'Earlier, stigma prevented many from coming out in the open and many were threatened by officials of possible legal trouble if they declared themselves to be Devadasis because it had been banned in 1982. Despite the ban, the tradition continued across many big temples during annual fairs in North Karnataka,' said Manjula Malige, daughter of a Devadasi and now associated with Hosapete-based Sakhi Trust. 'The biggest hindrance in the previous two surveys has been the age limit of 45 and above to qualify to register. Women in North Karnataka also migrate for livelihood. There was a lack of awareness about the survey.' According to R.V. Chandrashekar, researcher in NLSIU, the government orders in the previous surveys remained silent on the age limit, but they crept in during subsequent circulars. 'We want the survey to be comprehensive following which a one-time rehabilitation is possible.'

Backward classes must focus on education: Yathindra

The MLA also mentioned that chief minister Siddaramaiah sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore for the installation of a Valmiki idol in the new DC office premises in Siddhartha Nagar. BJP urges K'taka govt to act against firms selling fake seeds, fertilisers
Accusing the ruling Congress of 'failing' Karnataka, state BJP President B Y Vijayendra on Sunday urged the Siddaramaiah-led government to file a criminal case and take strict action against companies that are supplying fake seeds and fertilisers to farmers. He said a police vigilance team should be formed to take strict action against the networks that cheat farmers. The BJP chief was responding to reports about fake seeds and fertilisers being supplied to farmers in some parts of the state. "The efforts to trouble the food-providing farmers and exploit them within the system have been ongoing for a long time. Companies supplying fertilizers and seeds are engaging in the despicable act of sabotaging agricultural activities by providing fake seeds to the enthusiastic farming community that are expecting a good harvest in the backdrop of a promising monsoon this time," Vijayendra said. "I urge the government to file a criminal case against such companies in this regard and take strict action, and also to take all necessary measures to ensure that the farming community gets quality seeds and necessary fertilizers in a timely manner," he said in a post on 'X'. Stating that it should be the government's top priority to ensure that the farming community, which is the largest human resource of the country and who live by trusting nature, does not face any problems, Vijayendra said, in this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi- led central government, along with agricultural incentive schemes, has taken precautionary measures to protect farmers. "The state government too needs to take committed steps in this regard, so that the lives of farmers are not affected," he said. Targeting the Congress government citing media reports about farmers protest in some parts, against urea shortage, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R Ashoka said, the Congress government should have been alert and paid attention towards ensuring storage of necessary amount of fertilizer and its timely distribution, when the monsoon arrived a month in advance this time. Instead, those in the government completely neglected the farmers in the heat of factional fights for power or chair, Ashoka said in a post on 'X'. "The curse of the farms will affect this Congress government," he added.
