IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Alastair Cook identifies where India lost at Lord's - and it's not the Rishabh Pant run out
India fell in the 3rd Test of the five-match series against England at Lord's on Monday. After a hard-fought battle over the last five days, the visitors ended up falling 22 runs short of the target set by
Ben Stokes
' side.

After starting the first session on Sunday at 58/4, India needed 135 runs to win with six wickets in hand. However, the loss of crucial wickets such as that of KL Rahul and
Rishabh Pant
left
Ravindra Jadeja
the responsibility of getting India over the finish line. While the all-rounder ultimately fell short of the target, he was lauded for his marathon effort with
Jasprit Bumrah
and then
Mohammed Siraj
towards the end.
His impressive 61* off 181 balls gave India hope after a turbulent and disastrous Day 5.
After the game, England legend and former skipper
Alastair Cook
analysed India's defeat, and singled out one paricular reason why
Gautam Gambhir
's men lost the 3rd Test. While the obvious reasons point to Rishabh Pant's unfortunate run out on Day 3, Cook singled out another flaw from India. "They played it in their way. It almost worked. I've never seen a side go that way, you know? We're gonna take one (run) an over.

If we take 60 overs, we'll get there in 60 overs," said Cook, speaking for BBC Sport.
Poll
What do you think was the key factor in India's loss at Lord's?
Rishabh Pant's run out
Loss of early wickets
Bowling performance of England
Lack of aggressive batting strategy
Jadeja's incredible resilience drew praise from the former Test captain. The 36-year-old, who is ranked as the best all-rounder in the world in the red-ball format, battled at the crease for 181 balls. "Incredible mental fortitude by Jadeja to do it. I think they'll look back and think they should have been more proactive, but its not that bit, its the batting at the top, 40-1 and cruising, to suddenly lose those four wickets there has hurt them," said Cook.
India will play the 4th Test at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in 8 days, where they will need to pull off a crucial win if they are to stay alive in the series.

IND vs ENG Test: Where did India lose the Lord's Test? Ex-India captain opines
has pointed out various reasons why India lost the Lord's Test match against England in the ongoing five-match Test series. Rahane said Pant's run-out in the first innings and then Karun Nair's brain fade in the second cost India dearly. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "I thought Ben Stokes attacking the ball, one-handed pick-up and throwing towards the non-striker was amazing. It's very easy for the fielder to get relaxed," Rahane said on his YouTube channel. "When you see only two or three balls left before lunch, you can easily get relaxed. But his attitude towards the ball, his intensity, and getting that run-out — that's where I felt England came into the game." Rishabh Pant is India's TRUMP CARD in tense chase vs England at Lord's However, Rahane felt India were cruising in the second innings despite losing Jaiswal's wicket early while chasing 193. "At that point in time, India were cruising — 40-odd for one. But that LBW of Karun Nair, that changed the game for India and England. "I thought England came back into the game really well. And after that, they started bowling well. Their intensity on the field, their fielders, the character they showed — it was amazing. "That's what you want to see in Test cricket — all 11 fielders coming together and looking to win the Test match. It was so good to see their attitude and character on the field. "Even though India fought back really well, again, credit goes to the England team — the way they came back into the game and won the Test match," he said. Lord's museum tour: Cricket's greatest artifacts and the stories behind them Talking about where India lost the Test match, the 37-year-old said: "As I said earlier, it was India's Test match to win. "When KL and Rishabh were batting in the first innings, I thought their partnership was amazing. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now They batted beautifully. But India was 75–100 runs short. "We all know that Day 4 and 5 get slightly difficult to bat on. It's not easy to score runs. Yes, England bowled really well. "But I felt India missed an opportunity to get that big score on the board in the first innings. And also, I feel going forward, India should look to add one extra bowler — because you're going to win a Test match or a Test series by getting 20 wickets."

Sidney Crosby likely to leave Penguins if Evgeni Malkin isn't re-signed
Crosby's next move hinges on Malkin's final season decision (Image via: Getty Images) The Pittsburgh Penguins have hit a rough patch, missing the NHL playoffs for three straight seasons—a slump that mirrors their four-year drought from 2002 to 2006. That's troubling for a franchise that boasted 16 consecutive playoff appearances before 2022, and even more so for veterans like Sidney Crosby, who still have championship-caliber talent left in the tank. Sidney Crosby 's future tied to Evgeni Malkin 's contract Despite the team's decline, Sidney Crosby continues to perform at an elite level. He recently surpassed Wayne Gretzky's record by averaging at least a point per game for 20 straight seasons—something no other player in NHL history has achieved. But with his contract set to expire after the 2026–27 season, speculation is heating up around whether Crosby will finish his career in Pittsburgh or explore other opportunities. According to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, Crosby's decision is closely tied to longtime teammate Evgeni Malkin. 'He's here as long as Geno's there,' Wyshynski said on The Jeff Marek Show. 'If Geno's there for one more year, then all bets are off as far as where Sid ends up.' That means Malkin's future will likely dictate Crosby's next move, and right now, Malkin's contract is set to expire after the 2025–26 season. Re-signing Malkin is the key to keeping Crosby and preserving Penguins ' golden era The Penguins' front office hasn't made any public moves to extend Malkin's contract, which raises serious concerns. Malkin himself has stated that he wants to retire in Pittsburgh and has no interest in returning to the KHL. 'The Penguins are my team,' he told The Athletic earlier this year. But if Pittsburgh lets him walk, Crosby may walk too. Together, Crosby and Malkin have defined the modern Penguins era, delivering three Stanley Cup titles and 16 straight playoff runs. Their chemistry, both on and off the ice, is undeniable. From iconic assists to hilarious post-game banter, their bond goes beyond stats; it's the emotional heartbeat of the franchise. Reuniting Crosby and Malkin is Pittsburgh's last shot at one more Stanley Cup run If the Penguins want to keep their captain and rebuild for one final playoff push, re-signing Malkin is essential.
