BBC head of music steps down amid Glastonbury controversy
This follows a performance by UK punk duo Bob Vylan at Glastonbury Festival, where the group led the crowd in a chant of death, death to the IDF, with regard to Israeli Defence Forces.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 3, the BBC revealed that 'Bob Vylan was deemed high risk following a risk assessment process' but ultimately was deemed suitable to broadcast.
This prior assessment was applied to all Glastonbury acts, with six other performances falling under the 'high-risk' category regarding live streaming.
Calling the decision to broadcast Bob Vylan's performance 'an error,' the BBC said: 'We deeply regret that such offensive and deplorable behaviour appeared on the BBC and want to apologise to our viewers and listeners and in particular the Jewish community.'
Furthermore, the BBC emphasised 'that there can be no place for antisemitism at, or on, the BBC.'
Now, Clarke has allegedly stepped down from her duties while an investigation takes place. Her role includes supervising six national popular and classical music networks, as well as Music Live Events, Music Television commissioning and the Visualisation team.
According to reports, a small number of senior BBC employees have also withdrawn from their positions overseeing live events and music.
As per their statement, the BBC said they will not be broadcasting 'any music performances deemed high risk' going forward. They have previously made the decision not to broadcast Kneecap's set at Glastonbury.
Following the controversy, Bob Vylan was pulled from the lineup of Manchester's Radar Festival.
The duo are currently under investigation by Avon and Somerset Police over their Saturday Glastonbury performance.

Gregg Wallace claims he has been cleared of misconduct allegations
TV presenter Gregg Wallace has claimed he has been cleared of the "most serious and sensational accusations" against him ahead of a report examining the MasterChef host's alleged misconduct. The 60-year-old stepped away from hosting the BBC cooking competition, after a number of historical complaints came to light last year, which led to the external investigation by the show's production company, Banijay UK. A BBC News investigation reported that 13 people alleged Wallace had made inappropriate sexual comments across a range of shows over a 17-year period. The production firm previously said Wallace is "committed to fully co-operating" with the external review while his lawyers have previously strongly denied "he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature", according to BBC News. In a statement posted on his Instagram account on Tuesday, he said: "I have taken the decision to speak out ahead of the publication of the Silkins (sic) report - a decision I do not take lightly. "After 21 years of loyal service to the BBC, I cannot sit in silence while my reputation is further damaged to protect others. "I have now been cleared by the Silkins (sic) report of the most serious and sensational accusations made against me. "The most damaging claims (including allegations from public figures which have not been upheld) were found to be baseless after a full and forensic six-month investigation." The statement continued: "The BBC is choosing to allow BBC News to run with this uncorroborated tittle tattle in an attempt to 'get ahead' of the Silkin's summary report and derail what has been an extremely thorough process. "This feels to me like BBC News is chasing slanderous click-bait rather than delivering impartial journalism. "To be clear, the Silkin's Report exonerates me of all the serious allegations which made headlines last year and finds me primarily guilty of inappropriate language between 2005 and 2018. "I recognise that some of my humour and language, at times, was inappropriate. For that, I apologise without reservation. But I was never the caricature now being sold for clicks. "I was hired by the BBC and MasterChef as the cheeky greengrocer. A real person with warmth, character, rough edges and all. For over two decades that authenticity was part of the brand. Now, in a sanitised world, that same personality is seen as a problem. "My neurodiversity, now formally diagnosed as autism, was suspected and discussed by colleagues across countless seasons of MasterChef. "I will not go quietly. I will not be cancelled for convenience. I was tried by media and hung out to dry well before the facts were established. The full story of this incredible injustice must be told and it is very much a matter of public interest." BBC spokesperson said: "Banijay UK instructed the law firm Lewis Silkin to run an investigation into allegations against Gregg Wallace. We are not going to comment until the investigation is complete and the findings are published."

Gregg Wallace fired by BBC
Gregg Wallace has been offically fired by the Beeb after a 9 month investigation into allegations of misconduct during the filming of the hit show Masterchef. Taking to Instagram today, The host of the BBC hit Cooking show wrote ' I have taken the decision to speak out ahead of the publication of the Silkins report – a decision I do not take lightly'. 'But after 21 years of loyal service to the BBC, I cannot sit in silence while my reputation is further damaged to protect others. I have now been cleared by the Silkins report of the most serious and sensational accusations made against me' . Gregg Wallace. Pic: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock The news today that he has been fired from the BBC comes nine months after his production company Banijay launched a full investigation into his reported behaviour on the hit show, and the company also invited anyone who had worked or appeared on Masterchef to come forward and share their experiences. Some of the allegations levelled against Wallace came from several well known public figures, but there were said to be around 30 women who came forward with accusations of misconduct, some of which dated back many years, while Penny Lancaster, Kirstie Allsop, Vanessa Feltz and Kirsty Wark also spoke out about their experiences of working with Wallace. The complaints began with 13 women coming forward, this figure later rose to around 30, some of which were historical allegations of misconduct and afterwards Wallace was again critisised and slammed online for his comments on Instagram describing his accusers as 'a handful of middle class women of a certain age' Pic: Instagram/ BBC While his time at the BBC is now over, and he is said to be devastated and angry over the outcome, he will be vindicated of some of the more serious allegations thrown at him, including allegations of 'groping'. The report will also include the bullying allegations brought by Penny Lancaster – and made public by her husband, rock star Rod Stewart, who accused Gregg of humiliating and bullying his wife during her appearance on Celebrity Masterchef in 2021. Benett/for The Birley Clubs These allegations have been dismissed by The Silkins inquiry after forensic analysis of the rushes, the footage of the show, which was analyzed and determined no evidence to support the claims. There were two further categories in which he is believed to have been cleared altogether, and those were identified as 'having nicknames for staff which some considered 'demeaning' and being 'direct' with contestants. The investigation team found both of these were 'unintentional'. It is also understood that Gregg Wallace was recently diagnosed with autism, and this has been used to explain away some of his so called 'inappropriate behaviour' and much of the language he used in dealing with staff, contestants and guests. Investigators have explained this as his 'black and white thinking' due to his diagnosis of autism.
