Monsoon preparation in Ludhiana: Notices served on 159 unsafe building owners

To ensure residents safety during the monsoon season, municipal corporation (MC) has served notices to the owners of 159 unsafe buildings situated in different parts of the city. MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said that the building branch officials were directed to conduct a survey in the city and on the basis of that survey, notices have now been served to the owners. Working on the directions of MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, the notices have been served by the building branch officials to the owners of unsafe buildings, and they have been directed to repair/demolish the illegal structures at the earliest. The notices have been served under Section 273 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976.
Of these 159 unsafe buildings, 48 are situated in different areas falling under Zone A of MC. While 21 are situated under Zone B, 35 are under Zone C and 55 unsafe buildings fall under Zone D of MC.
The owners have been directed to initiate the repair/demolish work at the earliest or else they would be responsible for any mishap or untoward incident followed by collapse of unsafe building during the rainy season. The civic body officials are also writing to the police department to get these unsafe buildings vacated as these poses' danger to the lives of the residents.

MC removes six encroachments from Shingar Cinema road
The tehbazaari wing of MC removed temporary encroachments from Shingar cinema road on Friday.
Action was taken against six shopkeepers who had committed encroachments outside their shops. The material kept on the road portion was confiscated by the civic team. Tehbazaari inspector Sunil Kumar said that action was taken on the direction of MC commissioner Dachalwal and zonal commissioner Neeraj Jain.
Kumar further stated that one shopkeeper tried to create obstruction during the drive, following which a complaint has been lodged against him at Dharampura police chowki. He further stated that the drive against encroachments will continue in the coming days.

Haryana: Yamunanagar MC to raze slain gangster Romil's house
Following the encounter of wanted gangster Romil Vohra on Haryana-Delhi border, the municipal corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has initiated proceedings to demolish his allegedly illegally constructed house in Ashok Vihar Colony, Yamunanagar. The civic body stated that a notice under Section 261 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, was issued in the name of Romil's father, Kapil Vohra, and pasted outside the property. (Sourced) Vohra, a 20-year-old gangster with multiple criminal cases against him across Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi, was killed in a shootout with a joint team of the Haryana STF and Delhi Police special cell during the early hours of Tuesday. Vohra was wanted in nine criminal cases and was most recently accused in the killing of liquor contractor Shantanu in Shahabad on June 13. He was also one of the five shooters involved in the murder of three men outside a gym in Kheri Lakha Singh, Yamunanagar, in December 2023, reportedly due to a liquor-related dispute. He was allegedly associated with the Kala Rana–Noni Rana gang and carried a bounty of ₹ 3 lakh announced by the Haryana government for information on him. The civic body stated that a notice under Section 261 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, was issued in the name of Romil's father, Kapil Vohra, and pasted outside the property. It directed him to remove or demolish the illegal construction within 15 days of receiving the order. This action was taken on the instructions of MC commissioner Akhil Pilani, a spokesperson said, adding that a similar demolition had been carried out against notorious criminal Kala Kabadi's illegal property in June 2024. District town planner (DTP) Manoj Kumar said that the house was built by Kapil Vohra by illegally occupying land and without obtaining proper building plan approval. 'If the encroachment is not cleared within the stipulated time, the civic body will carry out the demolition,' he said. The building branch of the MC inspected the house, located in ward no 21 on Kansapur Road, and found the 54.689-yard structure to be illegal. The first notice was issued on June 3 and pasted on the wall outside the house, instructing the occupants to vacate and appear before the MC office on June 10 with relevant documents. However, neither Kapil Vohra nor any representative responded or submitted documentation. As a result, a second notice was issued on June 16 and a third and final notice on Tuesday. According to sources, both Kapil and his wife are currently lodged in jail in connection with criminal cases related to their son. The house is presently unoccupied. Meanwhile, police confirmed that Romil Vohra's body is yet to arrive from Delhi, where a post-mortem examination is pending. His last rites will be conducted in his hometown.

Homes of absconding, jailed smugglers razed
Ludhiana: MC and commissionerate police pulled down the properties of two drug smugglers here Sunday. In the first operation, Gurpal'S house in Amarpura was razed to the ground . CP Swapan Sharma said Gurpal has as many as nine criminal cases under the NDPS Act registered against him at different police stations in Ludhiana. He has been involved in drug smuggling since 2014. He managed to flee to Himachal following the the govt's war on drugs. In the second operation, the house of Rajinder Kaur alias Rozy, located at Hero Suman Nagar in Lohara village, was demolished. Police said Rozy is facing two criminal cases under the NDPS Act and is in jail. Special DGP (law and order) Arpit Shukla said with this as many as 126 properties built by drug smugglers using ill-gotten money have been demolished since March 1. tnn
