After warning, vendors challaned for littering city

Ludhiana: Cracking down on street vendors failing to maintain cleanliness around their vends, MC teams issued challans to 95 of them in different parts of the city for littering and not keeping dustbins. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This despite MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal issuing an order, directing street vendors to ensure dustbins/receptacles and cleanliness around their vends earlier this month. The order clearly stated failure to do so would invite a challan of up to Rs 2,000. It alwarned that an FIR could also be lodged against repeat offenders. The street vendors were ordered to hand over the garbage to garbage collectors or dump it at designated sites (transfer stations) only after closing down their vends at night. They were asked to refrain from burning waste, spitting, urinating in public spaces, or using banned single-use plastic items at their stalls. Acting on these orders, the health and tehbazari teams of all four zones of the civic body conducted a drive and challaned the violators. Of these, 10 challans were issued in areas falling under zone 'A', 20 in zone 'B', 23 in zone 'C', and 42 in zone 'D' of MC. The teams also issued challans against the use of banned plastic carry bags by the street vendors. MC commissioner Dachalwal said while the civic body is making consistent efforts to ensure cleanliness, the street vendors and residents should also do their bit for the same.

Dive into this smart gift, an all-weather swimming pool, if in Ludhiana.

Ludhiana: Swimming enthusiasts in Ludhiana can now dive in year-round, as the city's first all-weather indoor swimming pool — built to Olympic specifications — has been completed under the national Smart City Mission. The ₹5.82 crore facility, located near Rakh Bagh, was officially inspected this week by municipal commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, who toured the site with senior civic officials. Equipped with modern filtration systems and temperature-control machinery, the pool is designed to operate in all seasons, making it accessible for recreational and training use regardless of external weather conditions. "The all-weather pool is ready, and registrations will open for residents soon," said Dachalwal. "It's a world-class facility, and maintenance protocols are being put in place to ensure its longevity." The indoor pool measures 25 m in length and 12.5 m in width, closely aligning with Olympic standards. It features five lanes with a depth ranging from 4.5 to 6 feet, accommodating swimmers of various skill levels. Officials said safety measures have been prioritised for users of all ages. Designed as part of a broader plan to enhance public sports infrastructure in Ludhiana, the pool aims to serve as both a recreational hub and a training ground for aspiring athletes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I lost my wife, now my son is in danger, please help him! Ludhiana civic body commissions construction and demolition waste plant.

Ludhiana: After years of delay, Ludhiana's civic body has finally made operational a long-awaited construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing plant aimed at curbing the city's growing problem of illegally dumped building debris. The facility, located in Dhandhari, was inaugurated on Wednesday following an inspection by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal and senior officials. The ₹7.39 crore (A$1.3 million) project was funded under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Smart City Mission, and is now poised to handle up to 100 tonnes of construction waste per day. "This plant will help in improving cleanliness across the city," said Commissioner Dachalwal. "We will recycle the waste into usable products like tiles, concrete blocks, and bricks." While construction of the plant and installation of machinery were completed a month ago, its launch was delayed due to the Ludhiana West bypoll, officials said. Turning Rubble into Resource Spread across 2.5 acres, the plant was built to address a widespread civic nuisance — piles of rubble, broken tiles, and debris left at random sites across the city, including green belts and footpaths. Previous attempts by the Municipal Corporation to designate dumping points failed, prompting the need for a permanent solution. Now operational, the plant will receive all waste generated by civic body contractors, who will be required to deposit construction debris at the site and submit receipts along with their work bills. Officials said the plant's contractor is responsible for processing the waste and converting it into reusable construction material. This is expected to ease pressure on landfills, improve city aesthetics, and reduce illegal dumping. Delayed, Costly Journey Originally proposed five years ago after the National Green Tribunal ordered action on C&D waste, the project was initially budgeted at ₹2.69 crore. However, work stalled after authorities discovered the proposed site was a dumpsite requiring structural work, including foundation pillars and debris removal. These complications drove costs up to ₹7.58 crore before the project was reassigned to the Swachh Bharat Mission. The C&D facility is the third major waste-related project taken up by the Municipal Corporation in five years, following a modern slaughterhouse and carcass disposal plant. However, both previous facilities were underutilised and labelled as "white elephants," raising concerns about whether the new plant will meet its intended purpose. Dachalwal emphasised the need for public cooperation in making the initiative a success. "We urge residents to support our solid waste management efforts," he said. MSID:: 122575487 413 |

Keep dustbins near vends: MC chief tells city vendors

Ludhiana: Taking another initiative to keep the city clean, MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal Friday issued an order directing street vendors to ensure dustbins/ garbage receptacles near their vends. The order states that they can face penalties of up to Rs 2,000 if they fail to do so, and if the area around around their vends is littered with waste. An FIR can also be registered against them for repeated violations. The civic body can also seize their material/equipment. Civic teams will create awareness among the street vendors, and if they still fail to comply with the orders, action will be initiated against them under relevant sections of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976; the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The street vendors have been asked to keep separate dustbins/garbage receptacles for dry and wet waste. They should hand over the garbage to garbage collectors or dump the garbage at designated sites (transfer stations) only after closing down their vends at night. Vendors must also refrain from burning waste, spitting, urinating in public spaces, or using banned single-use plastic items at their stalls. The enforcement teams of MC's sanitation (health branch) and tehbazaari wings will regularly monitor compliance and take appropriate action against violators. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 年最紓壓的農場遊戲!無需安裝 東加:島嶼農場 立即播放 Undo Commissioner Dachalwal said this is among the many steps being taken to ensure cleanliness across the city.
