Longhorns' Arch Manning Reviews 'Dog' Factor in Josh Allen and Joe Burrow

Longhorns' Arch Manning Reviews 'Dog' Factor in Josh Allen and Joe Burrow originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has become one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL over the last few years ... and Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow is considered by most to be right on his heels.

The reigning MVP Allen has carried his team to five straight division titles, and multiple playoff wins and has been at the doorstep of a Super Bowl appearance numerous times. And Burrow is so gifted that he took the Bengals to the Super Bowl as a second-year QB.
Burrow's and Allen's abilities have naturally been noticed in the college game, with quarterbacks emerging who are bigger, faster and more athletic than ever before. Everyone wants to emulate the best. ...
And that was clear this week at the Manning Passing Academy, when Arch Manning, Peyton's and Eli's nephew and a likely heir to the Allen/Burrow-level NFL throne, detailed that he continues to watch tape on the two stars to improve his own game.
"I'm watching a lot of Josh Allen and Joe Burrow right now. Those are my guys." Manning said, "Because they're dogs. I'm watching some of their college film right now, just good players, elite competitors and fun to watch."

Manning is considered the top quarterback whenever he comes out for the NFL draft. Longhorns insiders believe he will be the top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
So ... it won't be long before another Manning is in the league. And the fact that the Texas quarterback wants to continue improving his game, and is looking at Burrow and Allen to do so, shows their impact on the game.
And legacies of Burrow and Allen, even still, are just getting started.

Commanders Get Worrisome Jayden Daniels Comparison from Cam Newton

Commanders Get Worrisome Jayden Daniels Comparison from Cam Newton originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders have seen some historic rookie seasons. A most wonderful example? In 2012, Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III took the NFL by storm. Advertisement Thanks to RGIII's heroics, Washington won the NFC East as part of a major turnaround. The hope was that the signal-callers' stardom was only just beginning. Football fans know the rest of the story. Injuries derailed a once-promising career, and RGIII became a journeyman. The lessons learned from that experience have some people worried about what could eventually happen to Washington's new star quarterback, Jayden Daniels. Much like RGIII, Daniels is a Heisman Trophy winner and was the second overall pick from his draft class. While Daniels did not win the NFC East in his first year, he helped get Washington to the conference championship game for the first time in three decades. Advertisement So the similarities - right down to their relatively slight builds - are close enough. Those similarities (and differences) are a big reason former league MVP Cam Newton detailed on his latest "Funky Fridays with Cam Newton" podcast why there should be some concern about what could happen to Daniels in Year 2. "There's nobody who had the game in a chokehold like Robert Griffin III," Newton said. "RG3 comes in, has an unbelievable year, and it's like, 'Hold up, he's next." And then, of course, suddenly ... he wasn't. Now, just because Griffin got beaten up and into decline doesn't mean it has to happen again. Maybe a better angle is that it's a cautionary tale for Washington, which should feel both thrilled about its new quarterback and focused on keeping him healthy. Padres Make Xander Bogaerts Decision Before Rangers Game

Padres Make Xander Bogaerts Decision Before Rangers Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts is in his thirteenth major-league season and third with the San Diego Padres. He previously spent ten seasons with the Boston Red Sox, making his debut at age 20 in 2013. Advertisement During his decade in Boston, Bogaerts won World Series titles in 2013 and 2018 and earned four All-Star selections, emerging as one of the game's brightest young stars. After posting an .830-plus OPS for a fifth consecutive year and demonstrating remarkable durability in Boston, he signed a massive 11-year, $280 million contract with San Diego before the 2023 season. The long-term deal underscored the Padres' belief in his ability to deliver both elite offense and postseason experience. However, his production has dipped in San Diego—with OPS numbers below .700 in both 2024 and 2025. San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (2)Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images During Friday's series opener against the Texas Rangers, Bogaerts exited the game in the bottom of the tenth inning with the bases loaded after grabbing his right hamstring on a swing. Advertisement Today, the Padres made the decision to place him back in the lineup batting fifth and starting at shortstop. This marks the second time in a week he's left a game with a cramp, after exiting last Sunday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds for the same reason. In 85 games this season, Bogaerts is batting .255 with a .694 OPS and just five home runs, signaling a significant decline in his power. Entering Saturday, San Diego sits 47–40—just a game ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the wild-card race—so Bogaerts's availability and any uptick in performance will be pivotal to the Padres' push for October baseball. 2025 Indianapolis Colts roster preview: RB Khalil Herbert

Let's take a closer look at this Indianapolis Colts team as we go player-by-player through the roster. Up next is RB Khalil Herbert. With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Indianapolis Colts' 91-man roster. Going alphabetically up next is a free agent running back Khalil Herbert. Khalil Herbert's profile 2024 Snap count totals 2024 PFF grades 2024 Season Review Herbert spent his first three NFL seasons and part of 2024 with the Chicago Bears before being traded last season to the Cincinnati Bengals. In total, Herbert carried the ball only 36 times on the year, averaging 3.6 yards per rush with one touchdown. During his first three seasons, Herbert played a much larger role. This included carrying the ball 364 times during that span, while averaging an impressive 4.9 yards per rush. Herbert's role in the passing game over his career has been relatively small, with 64 targets over four seasons. He does have some kick return experience as well. "I feel like I can do everything," Herbert said during his introductory press conference. "Short yardage, outside, inside zone. I feel like I've been a part of offenses that have done it all. Catching the ball out of the backfield, pass pro. I've been asked to do it all, and I feel like I can do it well. I feel like I can do anything and help out in any way." Looking ahead to the 2025 season As GM Chris Ballard said at the NFL combine, the Colts need more production from the running back position behind Jonathan Taylor. Herbert can hopefully provide that production boost, but he will be competing with DJ Giddens and Tyler Goodson for that playing time and maybe even a roster spot. Although Herbert was a recent free agent addition, he is not a roster lock by any means. If released, he leaves behind a dead cap hit of just $482,500, according to Over the Cap. "Just come in here, try to learn, try to help," Herbert said about joining the Colts. "Being available, being a guy that can help carry the load. Just try to come in and bring what I can to the team, to the field, whatever is needed. That's how I look at it and being able to help in whatever way I can."
