Eryri road closures this weekend that visitors need to be aware of

Road closures will impact two parts of Eryri National Park this weekend. The area is expected to be packed as school summer holidays get underway.
But visitors need to be aware of closures in two areas - one near the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
This one is due to the famous Ras yr Wyddfa 2025. It sees runners from across the UK and the world compete in a gruelling race to the summit of Yr Wyddfa and back.
This is a major event for Llanberis with thousands of competitors and their supporters descending on the area.
It will see road closures in Llanberis. It includes the A4086, between Maes Padarn and the Victoria Hotel. This section will be closed to traffic between 1.50pm and 4pm on Saturday. Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community
For those attending the event there was this advice.
Ras yr Wyddfa organisers said: "We can open up the Glyn Rhonwy site (2 plots, Level 2 and 4). This will be the event parking for all runners, visitors etc to Llanberis. It will ease the pressure off the village.
"Please don't park on pavement and get a £50 ticket just for the sake of the £5. That £5 will go towards the Community and the Race.
"The Registration this year will be in this church St Padarn Church. Please use the Event parking, you will have to walk into the village (only a few hundred yards) or call the local taxi service to pick you up. But if you are running the race, well its a warm up. We will have a shuttle bus for you between 10am – 1pm. Local bus company BWS PERIS.
"Traffic Wardens will be around the same as every year. Please be warned and ensure you park in appropriate car parks."
A second event will see roads in Dolgellau closed. This is for the Sesiwn Fawr festival in the town.
Cyngor Gwynedd said: "Certain roads will be closed in Dolgellau between 9am on the 19th of July and 2am on the 20th of July 2025 for Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau. Signs will be in place for road users."

Iconic Pete's Eats in Llanberis to reopen this weekend and legendary item is staying on the menu

A legendary North Wales cafe that served up 'pints of tea' will reopen today after a massive revamp. Pete's Eats in Llanberis was started up by Pete and Vicky Norton in 1978. Its position close to the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) meant it was an absolute favourite with hikers and was renowned for its portion sizes. The place had been described as 'one of the most famous mountaineering hangouts in Britain' and even has its own Wikipedia page. Pete owned the cafe until 2018 before it was sold to Toby Harris. His father, Al Harris, helped set up the cafe back in 1978. It then went back on the market in March 2022. The cafe closed that winter and then proposals were submitted to Cyngor Gwynedd to revamp the place. Businessman Nick Pritchard made the application with BR Architecture the agent. It was approved and the site has been transformed in recent months. After some soft launch test events the site will open to the public from today. Nick said: "Llanberis is one of the most beautiful places in the world and it's a proud moment to see such an iconic building come back to life creating jobs for the local economy and a vibrant hub for the village." On social media, Pete's Eats said: "We are so excited to announce that we'll be opening our doors to the public this Saturday. Our brand new website is now live and taking bookings. "A huge thank you to everyone who's played a part in getting us ready to open - we couldn't have done it without you. We can't wait to welcome you in and celebrate together - see you soon." It has a new menu but traditionalists will be pleased to see that a 'pint of tea' is still available for a bargain £2.25. It has a breakfast and brunch menu and a lunch and evening selection, ranging from burgers and pizzas to pork belly, seabass and Five Bean Cassoulet.

Will it be worth visiting Gwynedd hotspot if you have to pay to park

The re-introduction of car park fees at a Gwynedd hotspot is looming. But if they come in permanently at Dinas Dinlle will a visit there still be worthwhile? Cyngor Gwynedd held a six-week trial last August and September with charges at the village's car park. Last month the Cabinet agreed proposals for charging from next March 1 to October 31. It would be free parking for the first hour, £2.20 up to two hours, £4.20 up to four hours, and £6 for up to eight hours. They also said there should be a season ticket for locals. Get all the latest Gwynedd news by signing up to our newsletter - sent every Tuesday The next step is a consultation over an Off Street Parking Order. I went along to see what the village has to offer and what the car park has for visitors. Clearly, the setting is stunning with views towards Anglesey and the peaks of Eryri and Pen Llyn including Mynydd Graig Goch, Bwlch Mawr, Gyrn Goch, Gyrn Ddu and Yr Eifl ("The Rivals"). The beach area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) where lapwings nest and the site of an Iron Age hillfort on a grassy crag overlooks the beach. The village itself has a smattering of cafes - The Surfer cafe with an ice cream shop and a chippy aswell as Braf cafe (which closes at 4pm) among them. I had a toffee and butterscotch scoop from The Surfer for £3.25, sat on a slightly weathered table by the beach and contemplated if I'd get value for money if I come once charges are introduced. I soon decided that Mother Nature, the foodie places and the excellent free toilets nearby make it worthwhile coming to Dinas Dinlle. But what about the car park? Well, it has a newish, diamond-shaped concrete mesh which replaced its somewhat potholed predecessor. It was tidy and litter-free when I visited on Wednesday. Picnic tables towards the far end, from the chippy, were a nice touch and there were clear signs about dog control restrictions and the like. However, I heard mixed views about the possible re-introduction of car park charges. With a black tarpaulin covering what ominously looked like a pay & display machine nearby, one local said they had "never asked" for the new car park surface or charges. Indeed, the sometimes erratic Wi-Fi could make contactless payments to it difficult. If drivers had to pay in cash then that would have to be collected by someone overnight, for security reasons, and that would cost Council Tax payers money - undermining any takings. A Brummie caravan owner told me he would stomach car park charges if they were imposed for the time it took to recoup the cost of the resurfacing, then stopped. If they were permanent he said he'd simply go to Morfa Bychan (Black Rock Sands) where it costs "£5 to park on the beach all day". Beware of the tides, I thought. However, a woman visitor said she'd be content to pay £2 a day but not if it's ratcheted up to £6 or £7. She also confided: "It's nice that it's free at the moment." I was inclined to agree. I'd be willing to pay a few pounds for signs, roadsweeping and maintenance, for a trip to Dinas Dinlle's lovely beach. But there is a line between making a fair contribution and being exploited. Of course, those at Cyngor Gwynedd who know about the council's finances will have their own views too.
