IND vs ENG: Worst in 148 years! Prasidh Krishna sets unwanted Test record
NEW DELHI: India seemed on course to bowl England out cheaply after removing Joe Root and Ben Stokes early on Day 3 of the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston on Friday.
But Jamie Smith and Harry Brook had other plans, hammering centuries to stage a remarkable counterattack and tilt the momentum back in England's favour.
Mohammed Siraj kickstarted the drama by striking twice in the second over of the day. First, he got Joe Root to tickle one off his pads to Rishabh Pant. On the very next delivery, he bowled a sharp, rising delivery that caught Ben Stokes off guard. The England captain fended at it, only to glove it behind to Pant for a golden duck — his first in Test cricket — leaving England reeling.

At 84/5, India looked firmly in control. But that changed quickly.
Brook displayed elegance and authority, unfurling crisp drives and flicks off Siraj, while Smith countered with aggressive strokeplay — slamming the ball down the ground and later pulling and driving Akash Deep for boundaries. Brook brought up his second fifty of the series with a commanding drive off Siraj, and soon Smith began dismantling India's short-ball strategy.

India vs England 2nd Test: Shubman Gill's 269, Ravindra Jadeja's class light up Edgbaston
Brook continued the charge, swivelling on the back foot to smash
Prasidh Krishna
for three fours and a six on the leg-side, before driving him once more for a boundary. That over alone leaked 23 runs.
Smith, meanwhile, reached his fifty off just 43 balls and kept going hard. He punished Prasidh's short balls with a four and a six, then took three more boundaries off Washington Sundar. Against Ravindra Jadeja, he once again went aerial, launching a four and a six to continue the onslaught.
Amid this brutal assault, Krishna's struggles in Test cricket grew more glaring. The pacer now holds the unfortunate record for the worst economy rate in Test history (minimum 500 deliveries).
England Coach Jeetan Patel Praises England Bowlers' Fightback
In the first Test, which India lost by five wickets, Krishna conceded 128 runs in the first innings while taking three wickets at an economy of 6.40. In the second innings, he gave away 92 runs for two wickets, with an economy of 6.13.
His performance during Day 3 worsened the numbers further: 5-0-50-0 at an economy rate of 10.00 — the most expensive spell (five or more overs) by an Indian bowler since December 2006.
Overall, Krishna has now conceded runs at over five per over in his brief Test career — a glaring concern for India's pace department.

'Bit Of Similarity With Rishabh Pant': Michael Atherton In Awe Of Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Last Updated: Michael Atherton has lauded Vaibhav Suryavanshi's power-hitting, comparing him to Rishabh Pant. Former England cricketer Michael Atherton has said that Vaibhav Suryavanshi's power-hitting has a tad bit of similarity with that of India's Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who too was in a mood to go for the big hits in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Suryavanshi smashed a jaw-dropping hundred off just 52 deliveries against England U19, setting a new benchmark in Youth ODIs. With this explosive innings, Suryavanshi has become the youngest Indian to score a Youth ODI hundred, breaking Sarfaraz Khan's 10-year-old record. Athers breaks down teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi's remarkable 52-ball century for India Under-19s 🤯⭐ — Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) July 5, 2025 'The young man, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who shot to prominence as, teenage prodigy, shot to prominence with a 35-ball 100 in the IPL, hit a 52-ball 100 today. He's finally out for 143 of 78 balls, 13 fours, 10 sixes, some incredible shots in this innings," Atherton said while speaking on Sky Sports. 'There is a bit of a similarity with Rishabh Pant, the way that he plays, he's got a beautiful swing of the bat, a very pure and natural swing of the bat and was clearly in fantastic form today, giving it some real welly," Atherton added. Sarfaraz had scored a hundred at 15 years and 338 days against South Africa U19 12 years ago. Suryavanshi's knock also shattered the record for the fastest Youth ODI hundred ever. Pakistan's Kamran Ghulam held this record for his 53-ball century against England U19 in 2013. Vaibhav first showed his brilliant talent in the Indian Premier League while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. Suryavanshi, who had scores of 48, 45 and 86 in his previous three outings in the series, struck 10 boundaries and seven sixes during his innings. Sent in to bat, India lost skipper Ayush Mhatre in just the fourth over. Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra added 219 runs for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by Ben Mayes. In 2024, Suryavanshi struck the joint-fastest century in men's Youth Tests against Australia U19 in Chennai, by reaching the three-figure mark in just 56 deliveries. First Published:

This high-stakes matchup is coming soon, and one top analyst has shared some honest thoughts about what it could mean for Kelly and the LSU program. Paul Finebaum says Brian Kelly can still survive with one more loss On Friday, July 4, 2025, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum gave his view on LSU's situation during a live episode of Get Up. Speaking with co-hosts Heather Dinich and Harry Douglas, he said Brian Kelly doesn't need to win the opening game to have a good season. — msports_all (@msports_all) 'The losing streak in openers started with Ed Orgeron three years ago,' Finebaum said, referring to LSU's former head coach. 'But I don't think that's the critical game. Because of the opener, they have a little wiggle room with a third loss.' LSU will face Clemson in their first game on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Arlington, Texas's AT&T Stadium will host the game. Many fans still remember how LSU went down 27–20 in the first game last year to the USC Trojans on September 1, 2024. T.J. Watt's $40M contract standoff puts pressure on head coach Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh Steelers
T.J. Watt (via Getty Images) T.J. Watt, the Steelers' defensive stalwart, has set off a contract firestorm that can redefine the near-term future of the franchise. With 2024 looming on the horizon, T.J. Watt is negotiating a record-breaking extension that would establish him as the NFL 's highest-paid defensive star, breaking Myles Garrett's recent $40 million threshold. But amid Watt's steady production and elite status, the Steelers have yet to come to terms. T.J. Watt gazes at record contract as Mike Tomlin considers long-term gamble As the Pittsburgh Steelers get ready for training camp, negotiations with T.J. Watt on a contract have reached a heated stalemate. The 30-year-old linebacker, a rare remaining elite pass rusher in the league, apparently feels that this is his last opportunity to land a franchise deal—and he won't budge. NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, making an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, wasn't shy: 'Certainly, there's an acknowledgement for all parties that that's not the worth of TJ Watt. But are you willing to pay him upwards of 40 million dollars per year, coming off a back half of 2024 where he didn't and the defense didn't play the way that we've been accustomed?' Steelers-TJ Watt: "Why move off of one of the best defensive players we've seen?" | THE FACILITY The underlying problem is not just the salary number—it's the framework, guarantees, and where that amount slots into Pittsburgh's long-term cap picture. While Watt continues to be one of the scariest defenders in the game, he's at the second half of his career, and recent slippage in his play toward the end of 2024 has created doubts about durability to come. T.J. Watt's position is adamant—and possibly impeding. As reported by Pelissero, T.J. Watt has informed the Steelers that if he does not get a contract he perceives as equitable, the team may be in for an annoyance that lasts through camp. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo With training camp opening July 23, time is running out to prevent a scenario similar to his 2021 hold-in, when negotiations dragged on into September. Even with external distractions—such as a lacerating social media shot from former Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown—the greater worry is in-house: whether the front office will accommodate Watt's requests or jeopardize the locker room leader they've constructed their defense around.
