There's a lot of talk around LSU Tigers head coach
Brian Kelly
ahead of the new college football season. Fans are waiting to see how the team will start in 2025. Kelly has not won a season opener since joining LSU in 2022, and now the team is set to face a tough opponent, the Clemson Tigers.
This high-stakes matchup is coming soon, and one top analyst has shared some honest thoughts about what it could mean for Kelly and the LSU program.
Paul Finebaum
says Brian Kelly can still survive with one more loss
On Friday, July 4, 2025, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum gave his view on LSU's situation during a live episode of Get Up. Speaking with co-hosts Heather Dinich and Harry Douglas, he said Brian Kelly doesn't need to win the opening game to have a good season.
— msports_all (@msports_all)
'The losing streak in openers started with Ed Orgeron three years ago,'
Finebaum said, referring to LSU's former head coach.
'But I don't think that's the critical game. Because of the opener, they have a little wiggle room with a third loss.'
LSU will face Clemson in their first game on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Arlington, Texas's AT&T Stadium will host the game. Many fans still remember how LSU went down 27–20 in the first game last year to the USC Trojans on September 1, 2024. Miller Moss, USC quarterback, threw 378 yards and one touchdown in that game.

After 'Gladiator' Praise, Novak Djokovic Opens Up About 'Texting' Virat Kohli: "Never Got..."

Tennis icon Novak Djokovic sailed into the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a victory in four sets over Australian Alex de Minaur on Monday. In attendance to watch Djokovic's victory at the All England Club was India cricket star Virat Kohli. Kohli, who lives in London, is not playing in the ongoing Test series between India and England. Following Djokovic's win, the Serbian tennis star revealed that him and Kohli stay in touch over texts, but have not had the chance to meet each other in person. "Virat Kohli and I have been texting a little bit for a few years, and we never got the chance to meet in person," said Djokovic, speaking to Sony Sports. "It was really a privilege and an honor to listen to him speak nicely about me. And I obviously admire all of his career and achievements and everything he has done," Djokovic added. "It was business as usual from the gladiator," Kohli had posted on Instagram, referring to Djokovic. Djokovic also stated that he had tried his hand at cricket, but did not quite enjoy the same success as he has with tennis. "I started to play cricket. I'm not very good at it. Obviously cricket being a very big, big sport in Australia and of course India, let's say that I'll have a task to perfect my cricket skills before I get to India so that I don't embarrass myself when I'm there," Djokovic said. Novak Djokovic vs Alex di Minaur: As it happened Djokovic brushed away a slow start and overwhelmed Alex de Minaur to storm into the quarter-finals for the 16th time at Wimbledon on Monday. After enduring a setback in the opening set, Djokovic recovered and booked his berth in the final eight with 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a contest that lasted for three hours and nineteen minutes. Last year, De Minaur had to withdraw before his quarter-final clash against Djokovic at SW19 due to a hip injury he sustained in his fourth-round win against Arthur Fils. De Minaur had dropped just one set en route to the Round of 16, but his run ended on a frustrating note. He steamrolled past Djokovic in the opening set, but the 26-year-old couldn't convert the break-point opportunities to turn around his fate. The limited errors from Djokovic kept things in his favour in the second and third sets. In the fourth set, he rallied from 1-4 to earn a spot in the quarter-finals. If Djokovic wins Wimbledon, the 38-year-old will go level with Roger Federer's tally of eight titles on the grass-court major.

Virat backs Djokovic to secure eighth Wimbledon title, reveals bond with Serbian tennis icon

London [UK], July 8 (ANI): Legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli backed 24-time Grand Slam champion and 100-time ATP Tour-level titlist Novak Djokovic to secure his record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title and go one-on-one with rising Spanish star and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the title clash. Novak played Alex de Minaur in the round of 16, securing his berth in the final eight with 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a contest that lasted three hours and nineteen minutes. Virat, along with his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, were in attendance for the clash. Notable sporting icons like England cricket legends Joe Root and James Anderson, and Swiss tennis icon Roger Federer, a record eight-time Wimbledon champion, were also in attendance. Speaking to Star Sports, Virat revealed exchanging text messages with Novak. 'Look, I have been in touch with Novak for a while now. We've exchanged some messages. He's been incredibly gracious and kind to stay in touch. So, I would say I want Novak and Carlos to be in the final, and ideally for Novak to win this one-because that would be a tremendous achievement for him at this stage of his career.' he said. 'And, you know, in the comparison or conversation about being the greatest of all time, he would be right up there with anyone else, if not number one-with the maximum number of Grand Slam titles. He deserves it. Given the amount of hard work he's put in, I really hope he plays Carlos in the final and wins,' he added. If he wins, this will be Novak's first Grand Slam title since 2023 US Open title win and overall his 25th. Alcaraz also stormed into the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2025 after his 22nd consecutive victory. The Spanish tennis sensation came from behind for his 18th straight win at the Championships, defeating 14th seed Andrey Rublev 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday. Alcaraz will take on Britain's Cameron Norrie in his quarterfinal match on Tuesday, while Djokovic will battle Italy's Flavio Cobolli on Wednesday. Recently, Virat was a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side, shining with 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71 with eight fifties. He was the third-highest run-getter in the tournament. In May, Virat announced a shock Test retirement ahead of India's tour to England. In his Test career, the 36-year-old made 123 appearances in white clothing, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties in 210 innings and a best score of 254*. He is India's fourth-highest run-getter in the format, behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs), Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs), and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs). Under Virat's test captaincy in 68 Tests, India won 40, lost just 17 and 11 ended in a draw. His win percentage was 58.82, making him India's most successful Test captain. (ANI)

Green tinge, slope and the Lord's: India batters set for their 'first' England challenge; third IND vs ENG Test from July 10

Pitches at Lord's (Sahil Malhotra from in London: Well before India's first training session at the Lord's Cricket Ground got underway on Tuesday morning, the support staff, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, was in a huddle near the playing surface. There was a fresh tinge of green on the 22 yards, and all of them - from bowling coach Morne Morkel to batting coach Sitanshu Kotak - did numerous rounds of firmness checks. As they stood on the practice pitches, the ground staff swung into action and some grass was shaved off the surface to make it brighter than how it was on first impression. The treatment on the square and the pitch continued as the team practiced in the nets and there was generous watering to keep it fresh under the sun. The grass could be trimmed further on eve of the game but the pitch promises to have more life than what Headingley and Edgbaston offered. Jasprit Bumrah , in conversation with the ground staff, compared the two surfaces to Nagpur and Kanpur when he was bowling in the nets. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Will this be more of the same? Quite possible as the game progresses but there will be more life on the opening day, in the first two sessions at least. Similar trend was followed during the World Test Championship Final as four Australia batters were dismissed within the first 25 overs. "There is little green in the wicket. It's more than what we saw in the last two matches. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Our one of a kind Patented Cold Water Extraction Process Superior Ginseng Undo But tomorrow, when they will make the final cut, the last cutting they do the day before the match, after that we can talk. And generally, the Lord's... The scores of the first and second innings are comparatively low. So, we can expect that it will be helpful for bowlers," said India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. at Lord's (Photo by Sahil Malhotra) Past trends, green tinge and the eight feet slope means India batters will face their first real challenge at Lord's after comfortable batting conditions in Leeds and Birmingham, respectively. Many will be playing their first fixture at the Home of Cricket as only Ravindra Jadeja (twice), KL Rahul (twice) and Rishabh Pant (once) have played here before. The iconic venue brings along some challenges which require minor adjustments as far as a batting group is concerned. Exclusive first look of green Lord's pitch: Intense chat of Gautam Gambhir with coaching staff The eight feet slope runs down from the Pavillion End to the nursery end, and adjustment remains the key word. To the naked eye, you can hardly spot any difference but there is a substantial one. While batting from the Pavillion End, the ball moves away from the right-hander more than usual because of the slope and the nursery end sees some exaggerated movement into the right-handers. There are similar challenges for the bowlers, too, but as far as batting is concerned, a few minor adjustments help to ace the conditions and be ready for the challenges thrown at them. Poll Based on the conditions mentioned, what outcome do you predict for India at Lord's? Win Loss Draw Too close to call Many batters who have played here have done minor tweaks to their guard for the two ends to counter the inward and outward movement on offer. That slope means there are scoring opportunities on offer but staying tight and compact will allow the batters to last and dominate for longer periods. Kotak felt countering the slope is more of a mindset thing as many batters deal with it as a "natural variation". "It depends on the mindset. I have seen some players saying that they don't understand the slope. And some players feel that there are natural variations. Obviously, because of the slope, there will be some variations. But, after hitting the seam, there are some variations. So, we cannot keep it in mind. But, again, we talk about adapting the conditions that come into play," explained Kotak. India batters have enjoyed their time in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy so far and how they deal with the Lord's slope could well decide whether the series goes uphill or downhill from London for them.
