Clayton Kershaw Sends Clear Message to ‘Bush League' Cardinals After Win
Clayton Kershaw Sends Clear Message to 'Bush League' Cardinals After Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Los Angeles Dodgers great Clayton Kershaw and the St. Louis Cardinals each felt like traveling back to 2014 on Sunday afternoon.

Kershaw, the 2014 NL MVP and Cy Young winner, triumphed in his trip down Memory Lane. The future Hall of Famer limited the Cardinals to one run and struck out seven over five innings.
Perhaps more importantly, Kershaw finally earned his first win of the season and now sits 17 strikeouts short of 3,000. The veteran lefty's strong outing came after the Cardinals showed a video of ex-Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams homering off him in the 2014 NLDS.
Although plenty of pitchers might laugh the insult off or outright dismiss it, Kershaw didn't hide his disappointment.
'I think it's a little bush league,' Kershaw told reporters, 'but I don't expect anything less from these guys. So, it's no worries.'

As of publication, the Cardinals had not addressed Kershaw's comments.

It's rare for an opposing player to call out a team's Jumbotron graphics or videos. That didn't stop Kershaw, who moved to 12-6 with a 2.84 ERA over 23 career starts against the Cardinals, from expressing his frustration.
Kershaw got the final laugh, though, and it came at a much-needed time for the inconsistent Dodgers. Sunday's victory salvaged the final game of a three-game set and kept the Dodgers one game above both the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants in the NL West.

Denver Nuggets Trading Michael Porter Jr in Blockbuster Deal
Denver Nuggets Trading Michael Porter Jr in Blockbuster Deal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Nuggets are finally moving on from the Michael Porter Jr. experience with a blockbuster deal. Advertisement Ever since he fell to the Nuggets at the bottom of the NBA draft lottery, Porter has been a massive injury risk for Denver. Across 77 healthy games during the 2024-25 regular season, the 27-year-old Porter averaged an encouraging 18.2 points on .504/.395/.768 shooting splits, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. The 6-foot-10 pro also missed the entirety of what would have been his 2018-19 rookie season while recuperating from an injury, and all but nine games in 2021-22 thanks to another major ailment. During the playoffs this past spring, Porter was a shell of himself while dealing with a shoulder injury. He averaged just 9.1 points on .392/.343/.714 shooting splits, 5.5 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.6 blocks. Aaron Gordon gave the Denver Nuggets the second win in the Los Angeles Clippers Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Denver is moving on from Porter's heinous contract, flipping him to the Brooklyn Nets, plus an unprotected 2032 first-rounder, in exchange for two-way standout combo forward Cameron Johnson. This deal represents a massive upgrade for the 2023 champs. Advertisement Porter is owed $79.1 million across the final two seasons of his deal, and in this writer's opinion, would be lucky to fetch half that were he a free agent today. Johnson, meanwhile, is making a far more manageable $44.1 million across the final two years of his own contract. Johnson, who's two years older than Porter, enjoyed a career year on the tanking Nets. Across 57 healthy games, the 6-foot-8 pro averaged 18.8 points on a .475/.390/.893 slash line, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 0.9 steals a night. An All-ACC honoree while with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Johnson is a far better two-way player than Porter. While he has missed his share of games with the Phoenix Suns and later the Nets (he's never played in more than 66 regular season contests in a season), Johnson doesn't present the same kind of lower body injury concerns Porter does. New Report on Deandre Ayton, Lakers After Buyout
New Report on Deandre Ayton, Lakers After Buyout originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Portland Trail Blazers certainly shocked everyone when ESPN's Shams Charania reported that they were finalizing a buyout with former No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton. Players who are as young as Ayton and get paid as much as he does don't typically get bought out. Advertisement Ever since it was reported, it's been highly speculated that the Lakers would go after him once he clears waivers. After trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles lacked a sturdy center in the postseason, which factored into their elimination. Ayton is coming off a season where he averaged 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds while shooting 56.6% from the field. He also has extensive playoff experience, as he was the Phoenix Suns' starting center during the 2021 NBA Finals run. As it turns out, the Lakers-Ayton buzz is more than mere speculation. The Athletic's Dan Woike confirmed that Ayton is among the centers Los Angeles is interested in bringing to the team. "Armed with the $14.1 million mid-level exception, the Lakers are expected to chase Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez and the Atlanta Hawks' Clint Capela, with the surprise addition of Portland Trail Blazers center Deandre Ayton as another target on their list," Woike wrote. Advertisement Besides the Lakers' need for a center, there are more connections here than meet the eye. Not only did Ayton and Luka Doncic come from the same draft - Ayton was picked two spots ahead of Doncic in 2018 - but they both share the same agent, Bill Duffy.
