Five pageantry titles in the bag – road to another one
A gorgeous 22-year-old youth, Khethiwe Manchidi, has bagged five titles since she joined the pageantry industry in 2023.
The courageous Khethiwe was crowned Miss Nkangala District 2nd runner-up 2023. Secondly, she was crowned Miss Nkangala District Ambassador 2023.
The road did not end there for her; she was then crowned Miss Nkangala District Public Choice 2023, followed by the Miss Nkangala District Personality 2023 title & Miss Nkangala District Photogenic 2023.
The sky is the limit for Khethiwe, she is now contesting for the Face of Emalahleni title.
'I joined the pageantry in 2023. The main reason why I joined is that I wanted to gain confidence in myself and improve my public speaking skills,' said Khethiwe. 'Currently, I can say that pageants are really working for me, and this year I joined my second pageant, which is Face of Emalahleni, and I am currently a semi-finalist,' she added.
eMalahleni is not all pretty faces; the faces are up on their feet to work for their community.
According to Khethiwe, from when she started walking the Face of Emalahleni journey, she has hosted 10 successful community outreaches, and the plan to do more still stands.
'I advocate for mental health, women's empowerment, period poverty, and education,' Khethiwe said.
Khethiwe believes that sunset reminds her of another chance to do more, as she is now about to start her own Fun Run. She wants to use the funds from the fun run to buy stationery, school uniforms, and sanitary towels for the less privileged.
'I believe no child should go to school sad because his/her uniform is torn and he/she come from a disadvantaged background. For that, I say eMalahleni schools will be well taken care of by my Fun Run, which aims to promote mental health awareness as we will be joining together and running,' Khethiwe expressed.
Khethiwe aims to make it to the Miss Mpumalanga, Miss South Africa crowns, and other international pageants.
She is pleading with potential sponsors to sponsor her Fun Run project as well as the Face of Emalahleni journey.

Pete Goffe-Wood on food, comedy, and not burning your sausage at Redfest

If you think kitchens are stressful, try making a theatre full of people laugh. Pete Goffe-Wood and Chris Forrest did exactly that at the Redfest festival in Morningside. For celebrity chef Goffe-Wood, the leap from knives to punchlines has been as satisfying as a perfectly cooked meal, and just as nerve-wracking. Read more: RedFest 2025 lights up Sandton Known for his sharp tongue and culinary prowess, Goffe-Wood says comedy was always brewing in the background. 'I was always the funny guy in my group of friends.' He added that he is a lifelong fan of The Goons and Monty Python, and he even dipped his toe into stand-up back when he was an apprentice chef. Goffe-Wood pointed out that his partnership with stand-up veteran Forrest sparked during filming for Celebrity MasterChef. Their dry humour clicked instantly, and a throwaway idea for a cooking-comedy show soon became Don't Burn Your Sausage. 'Chris booked us a slot at the National Arts Festival before we even wrote it,' Goffe-Wood continued. 'So, we had no choice but to get it done.' He said the show has evolved into a deliciously naughty blend of food, sex, and improv. 'A large part of it depends on the audience's vibe. Chris is brilliant at improvisation. I just react to his chaos.' When asked about the thrill, Goffe-Wood admits it's a rush like no other. 'In the kitchen, you wait till the meal's done to know if people liked it. On stage, the laughter is immediate.' After a decade on the road with Don't Burn Your Sausage, Goffe-Wood says the show is still sizzling, and they are already cooking up a new one. 'We do a lot of corporate gigs, so our story keeps evolving. And yes, humour is what gets you through those pressure-cooker moments in any kitchen.'
