No proof of MCA being sidelined, say Umno leaders
PETALING JAYA : Several Umno leaders have denied claims that the party is now prioritising DAP, a long-time adversary of its Barisan Nasional coalition partner MCA.
Umno Supreme Council member Shahaniza Shamsuddin said MCA continues to be involved in Umno programmes and even holds positions in BN-led state governments, such as in Pahang.
She cited the appointment of Temerloh MCA chief Wong Tat Chee as an assemblyman in Pahang, as well as that of former MCA Youth chief Nicole Wong as a special officer to deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno president.
'What evidence is there of MCA being sidelined? Even MCA president Wee Ka Siong attended Umno's 79th anniversary celebration.
'MCA should focus on strengthening BN to win the 16th general election and move forward,' she told FMT, dismissing the allegations as merely the personal opinion of certain individuals.
Yesterday, former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker said the party must assert its own direction in view of the fact that members were increasingly feeling that they had been left in the lurch by BN lynchpin Umno.
He said MCA members were of the view that Umno was favouring DAP, the party's bitter rival.
Ti said that it would be 'irresponsible' for MCA to abandon BN in its current state, but felt the party should strive to win seats in the next general election without relying on its allies.
Meanwhile, Puteri Umno chief Nurul Amal Fauzi urged MCA to work with Umno to rebuild BN, which has seen a steady decline since losing its grip on federal power after GE14.
'BN is the best coalition to represent all communities and was widely accepted until the rise of Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional. We should be thinking not just about our respective parties, but about the country,' she said, calling on MCA to join forces in attracting young voters.
'Together, we must help them understand the importance of politics in ensuring national stability for all.'

Johor-Singapore SEZ to drive growth beyond Johor Baru, says MB, with Kluang eyed as key satellite city
KLUANG, July 6 — The development of the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is expected to benefit not only areas surrounding Johor Baru but also be felt across all 10 districts in the state, said Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. He said the initiative would lead to the emergence of more satellite towns, ensuring that no district is left behind in terms of infrastructure and progress. In addition to driving economic growth, JS-SEZ would also serve as a catalyst for the tourism sector, positioning Johor as a major destination, he noted. The state government, he said, would seize the opportunity to promote attractions throughout Johor in conjunction with the upcoming Visit Johor Year. 'Bit by bit, areas surrounding JS-SEZ are beginning to experience the spillover effects of development. For example, the areas of Simpang Renggam and Renggam in Kluang are already seeing its impact. This progress will gradually expand to other districts. 'If Seremban is known as a satellite city to the Klang Valley, we expect Kluang to become one of the main satellite cities as a result of the JS–SEZ development,' he said at the launch of the Majestic Johor x Renggam Fiesta at Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) Renggam today. The JS-SEZ covers major development zones such as Iskandar Malaysia, Forest City, the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, and Desaru, with a total land area of approximately 357,128 hectares. The Iskandar Malaysia region also includes strategic areas such as Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas — Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai — Skudai, and Sedenak. Further commenting, Onn Hafiz said that rapid development in the transport sector would also support connections between districts and the JS-SEZ, including the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Project and the Gemas-Johor Bahru Double Track Electrified Project. Growing pressure may force early GE16, says BERSATU leader
SPECULATION is mounting that the 16th General Election (GE16) could take place earlier than expected, amid increasing pressure on the government under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership. BERSATU Information Chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, noted that recent developments from UMNO division meetings hint at growing discomfort within the ruling coalition about its current position. 'It seems like both the Prime Minister and the government are losing patience,' he said. 'UMNO's internal discussions appear to be gearing towards election mode, which strongly suggests that GE16 may be called sooner rather than later.' Tun Faisal made these comments while officiating the Kuala Kangsar Bersatu Division's Annual Conference at Dewan Seri Merchu on Sunday.
