Growing pressure may force early GE16, says BERSATU leader
BERSATU Information Chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, noted that recent developments from UMNO division meetings hint at growing discomfort within the ruling coalition about its current position.
'It seems like both the Prime Minister and the government are losing patience,' he said. 'UMNO's internal discussions appear to be gearing towards election mode, which strongly suggests that GE16 may be called sooner rather than later.'
Tun Faisal made these comments while officiating the Kuala Kangsar Bersatu Division's Annual Conference at Dewan Seri Merchu on Sunday.
Also in attendance was Dr Hashim Bujang, the Division Chief and State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Bukit Chandan.
He added that the challenges facing the administration go beyond politics, pointing to public dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living, economic difficulties, and unpopular government policies.
'We're dealing with multiple crises—economic, financial, and day-to-day hardships among the people,' he explained. 'But perhaps more worrying is the erosion of public trust in the government.'
Tun Faisal warned that further delays in calling for an election could amplify public frustration. 'If elections are put off much longer, the people's anger will only grow. That's why I believe the Prime Minister may ultimately decide to call for an early election,' he said. —July 6, 2025

Umno vice-president Johari Ghani reminded party members that it was not easy to secure a majority in today's challenging political landscape. The party needed a new strategy for the next general election, one that focussed on the aspirations of the younger generation. Umno could not rely on nostalgia to secure votes, he said. Johari said voters, especially the younger generation, have high expectations of leaders who are not only knowledgeable but also open, transparent, and possess integrity and credibility. 'They (voters) want leaders who are knowledgeable, both on local and international matters, and who are committed to issues like the environment and conservation,' he said at the Seremban Umno delegates meeting today, Bernama reported. 'This is the reality. Young voters have very high expectations. They want principled leaders – leaders who can be trusted, and who can strengthen ties among all communities,' he was quoted as saying. Johari said Umno must be more dynamic and open to remain relevant. 'Umno needs to accept the reality that securing a strong majority isn't an easy task, as voters now have diverse ideologies,' he said. 'Don't assume that we will always be the only ones in power. There are times when we must share power. We need to accept the fact that the world today is changing, finding a political party with a strong majority is no longer easy, as each has a different ideology,' he said.

Zahid confident BN-PH ties will lead to election success
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (fourth from right) has defended the coalition's ties with Pakatan Harapan, which has come under criticism from Umno members. GOPENG : Barisan Nasional is confident that the cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) can ensure they retain the seats won in the last general election, its chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. He said it was based on observations and results of the Mahkota and Ayer Kuning by-elections. He pointed out that BN had secured the Mahkota seat with a majority of 5,166 votes in 2022, but managed to win with a majority of 20,648 votes in the by-election in 2023, thanks to the partnership with PH. 'The same with Ayer Kuning; at the general election, we won with a majority of 2,213 votes, then when the by-election happened, we won with a majority of 5,006 votes. That's the type of increase we can see from the cooperation with PH,' he said at the Gopeng Umno delegates' meeting here today. He said the cooperation with PH should be a guide and reflection for leaders and the grassroots as the strategy is sound and suitable to retain existing power. 'We cannot be proud and arrogant and want to go solo. This is the current reality and by cooperating with PH, we can also become dominant in the national political arena,' he said.
