Giants vs. Pirates predictions: MLB odds, picks, best bets Tuesday
'Great weekend. It appears [Brian] Cashman and [Aaron] Boone have traded 11 prospects for the Three Stooges. It would have been better to keep the prospects and watch the Stooges on reruns.' — Nick Kass, New York, Yankee fan
Cashman may have to move Mo, Larry, and Curly to the Savannah Bananas for three Chiquitas.
The Giants visit the Pirates, and I haven't been this excited since the 'mountain stage' of the Tour de France.
Frisco's Logan Webb (one run over 5 ²/₃ innings) and Pittsburgh's Mike Burrows (one run over six) pitched well when they faced each other out West.
Giants won. We will take Burrows and the Bucs for $50 (+115, bet365).

George Costanza never had a peaceful moment on 'Seinfeld,' but Jason Alexander was the 'master of his domain' Monday night.
He shut out the Marlins for six innings, Sandy Alcantara was roughed up, and the Astros swallowed the Fish, 8-2.

Logan Webb strikes out 10 in 6 innings as the Giants beat the Pirates 8-1
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Logan Webb struck out 10 in six innings, and the San Francisco Giants hit three home runs on their way to an 8-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. Webb (10-8) allowed one run while scattering seven hits. It was his sixth double-digit strikeout game of the season. Rookie Christian Koss and Willy Adames each hit a two-run homer and Jerar Encarnacion added a solo shot off rookie Mike Burrows as San Francisco won for just the third time in 11 games. Koss opened the scoring with a drive into the left-field bleachers in the third inning. Encarnacion's blast increased the Giants' lead to 3-1 in the fourth, and Adames' 18th homer of the season made it 6-1 in the fifth. Encarnacion was playing his first game since June 15 after being sidelined by a strained left oblique. San Francisco's Patrick Bailey added a two-run single in the sixth inning. Burrows (1-4) was charged with six runs in 4 2/3 innings. Bryan Reynolds had two hits and drove in the Pirates' lone run with a single in the third inning. Pittsburgh lost for the third time in four games. Pirates reliever Cam Sanders made his major league debut and pitched two scoreless innings. He is the son of Scott Sanders, who pitched in the major leagues from 1993-99, primarily with San Diego. Key moment The Pirates loaded the bases in the third, but Webb got Nick Gonzales to ground out to end the inning. Key stat Webb surpassed 1,000 career innings. The seven-year veteran has logged 1,002 2/3 in seven seasons. NBA Fans Bracing for Ben Simmons News After Celtics' Roster Move
NBA Fans Bracing for Ben Simmons News After Celtics' Roster Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Celtics made a roster move on Wednesday. The team confirmed via its official X account that JD Davison was waived, which puts their roster at 14 players for the 2024-25 season. While a move like this gets the Celtics under the NBA's second tax apron, fans have speculated that Boston will use their final roster spot to add Ben Simmons, who the Celtics have reportedly been interested in, per Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst. "Ben Simmons welcome to Boston," one wrote. "Big Ben is coming," another proclaimed. "My guess, Ben Simmons is on the way," another predicted. Simmons is an unrestricted free agent, so waiving Davison allows Boston to sign him. Waiving Davison not too long after Boston's reported interest in Simmons would make it easy to conclude that the Celtics are opening up room to sign him. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that is what will happen. The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach confirmed that the Celtics waived Davison and that no move is imminent for them. According to a league source, the Celtics are waiving guard JD Davison," Himmelsbach wrote. "Davison, the G League MVP, is no longer eligible for a two-way contract with the Cs but could sign one elsewhere or compete for a roster spot. Celtics now have one open spot, but no move imminent." It's possible another move is on the horizon, but the Celtics can enter the 2025-26 season with a roster that includes at least 14 players at minimum.
