Belgian Cyclist Completes Epic 9-Country Journey To Perform Hajj In Mecca
After nearly three months of cycling thousands of kilometers, 26-year-old Belgian Anas Al Razqi has reached Saudi Arabia to fulfill his lifelong dream of performing the Islamic pilgrimage, Hajj.
Starting his journey at the beginning of Ramadan in March, Al Razqi pedaled through nine countries — including Germany, Austria, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina — facing diverse weather conditions and occasional loneliness.
Crossing into Saudi Arabia was a surreal moment. 'It's hard to describe,' he said.
'This is a dream. I didn't believe I would be in Mecca,' Al Razqi told Saudi TV channel Al Ekhbariya after arriving at the Halat Ammar border crossing near Jordan. 'I feel blessed to have arrived in the kingdom.'
Al Razqi said the sincere prayers and warm smiles of those he met along the way gave him strength.
'They kept me going,' he told Saudi news portal Sabq.
Crossing into Saudi Arabia was a surreal moment. 'It's hard to describe,' he said.
'I felt I was approaching a dream I've cherished for years. Now, I just want to reach the closest point to the Kaaba and see it for the first time.'

The eight-month plan will unfold in three distinct phases, running until the end of Sha'ban 1447 AH, after which the separate Ramadan operational plan will take effect. On June 10, Saudi Arabia resumed issuing Umrah visas, followed by the start of Nusuk permit applications on June 11. The Ministry clarified key dates within the Umrah calendar: the deadline for approving contracts between Umrah companies and overseas agents is the first day of Sha'ban; the issuance of Umrah visas will cease on the first of Shawwal; and the final entry date for pilgrims will be the 15th of Shawwal. All pilgrims must depart the Kingdom by the first of Dhul Qi'dah.

During this heightened period, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) took proactive measures to open supplementary air corridors to absorb the increased traffic. The Kingdom expanded its airspace capacity and optimized flight paths through advanced navigational systems that enhanced both safety and operational efficiency. Over 220 air carriers have passed through Saudi skies since the onset of the crisis, prompting the activation of strategic contingency plans. These included rigorous airport and airspace security procedures, supported by high-tech surveillance systems and infrastructure. Real-time crisis management was handled by teams using advanced data processing tools to facilitate seamless communication and coordination among operators, both locally and regionally. This allowed Saudi Arabia to respond rapidly to evolving conditions while maintaining uninterrupted flight operations at the highest safety levels. The Kingdom's air navigation network is among the most advanced globally, comprising 20 control towers, two regional control centers covering 15 sectors, and 10 approach control centers. More than 1,200 navigation devices are deployed across the country, managed by over 1,900 aviation professionals including 700+ certified air traffic controllers.
