Wednesday will be one of the hottest days of the year in Pittsburgh
Well, sort of. Today will see a high temperature that will be hotter than yesterday's 91°. I have Pittsburgh seeing a high of 93°. The hottest of the year so far happened on the 24th of last month when we hit 94°. That day was bookended by two 93° days that are obviously the second and third hottest days of the year so far.

Last year, our hottest day of the year was also 94°. I say all that before telling you that I am forecasting a high temperature today of 93°. It's going to be a hot one. So why did I say that hot isn't necessarily hot? Because when it comes to your perception of what is hot and what isn't, humidity levels come into play in a key way.
Humidity is just a fancy word for how much moisture is in the air. We have several ways of looking at humidity, including relative humidity (always goes up at the coolest time of the day) and absolute humidity (stays fairly steady as it looks at water vapor value). The dew point is also a way we look at humidity levels. Dew points in the 70s are in the extreme range for us here in Pennsylvania. Dew points in the 60s are high, but you'll notice a difference when dew points fall to the 60s from the 70s, and that is what is going to happen today.
Yes, our temperatures will go up, but our humidity levels will go down enough that if you are stuck outside, you will notice the difference. Air that has higher humidity levels also takes more energy to warm than 'drier' air. That's why I am going so aggressive on high temperatures today, because the air will also be drier.
So putting it all together, today will be hotter but will probably feel better when compared to yesterday. Still, we won't get any real relief from the heat until tomorrow when a cold front slides through.
Let's get to your forecast, highs today should hit the mid to upper 90s. Morning temperatures will be in the mid to low 70s, with noon temperatures in the upper 80s. Winds today will be light and variable. Skies should be sunny start to finish for most.
There is a small isolated storm chance for places southeast of Pittsburgh. I will keep coverage isolated in the Laurel Highlands and south of I-70. I've bumped up high temperatures on Thursday due to the timing of the rain.
I now have highs in the mid-80s for Thursday. It appears rain will be scattered, with the best chance for rain happening late in the afternoon to the evening as the cool front slides through. There will be big differences in highs on Thursday due to the timing of rain, with places to the north of Pittsburgh likely seeing highs in the 70s. And places south of I-70 are seeing highs near 90 degrees.
The timing of the rain and high temperatures will also limit (or not limit) stormy weather on Thursday evening. Right now, we are not included on the day's severe weather risk map. That could change. What will certainly not change is the wonderful weather that will be in place this weekend.
Highs will hover near 80 degrees with low humidity levels.
The weekend will be dry.

Building western US heat dome may set records, cause wildfires to surge
The heat dome that roasted and sweltered more than 100 million people on a daily basis during July in the eastern United States has broken down. However, a new heat dome is already building in the western half of the nation and may not only bring the highest temperatures of the summer, but could also boost wildfire potential and dangerous erratic wildfire behavior in part of the region, AccuWeather meteorologists warn. In the week ahead, high pressure will build at most levels of the atmosphere over the interior Southwest. When this happens, the sinking air not only tends to make it difficult to rain, but the atmosphere tends to heat up a bit more day after day as the ground dries out even more. Temperatures will well exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit over much of the desert region for the first full week of August with a number of locations, such as Phoenix, Las Vegas and Palm Springs, California, topping 110 degrees for multiple days. Temperatures will be far less extreme along the Interstate 5 corridor compared to farther inland in the week ahead. While it may seem fitting for the time of the year, temperatures will challenge daily record highs in multiple locations as the heat wave peaks from mid-to-late week. Temperatures will come within a few degrees of summer highs with the latest heat dome. A similar, but more brief setup in mid-June set the high-temperature mark for the year so far in many areas. People are urged to avoid strenuous activity during the midday and afternoon hours when the sun and heat are most intense. Proper hydration is essential, and experts advise people to avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption, which can expedite dehydration. Drought, fire danger to worsen While storms will frequent the zone from Montana and the Dakotas to northern Texas into much of the week ahead, thunderstorms will be hard to come by west of the Rockies and south of Idaho. "Recent heat and dry conditions have led to worsening drought across the southwestern U.S.," AccuWeather Meteorologist Alex Duffus said. "This alone has helped set the stage for some large fires in the region already this summer." On Thursday, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox issued a state of emergency in response to escalating wildfires across the state. The situation is about to get much worse, given the anticipated heat buildup and another factor this week. "A slow-moving storm at the level in the atmosphere where jets cruise at will crawl across the Northwest states through midweek," Duffus said. "This storm will lead to periods of gusty winds, paired with low relative humidity, which will boost the risk of multiple and fast-moving wildfires from the Great Basin to parts of the Northwest through at least the first half of the week." As of early August 2025, there have been 40,945 wildfires in the U.S., burning a total of 3,253,963 acres according to the National Interagency Fire Center. This is a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 21,970 fires occurred. A fire that erupted on Arizona's Grand Canyon north rim around July 4 continues to burn. The fire has burned well over 110,000 acres, and crews continue to struggle with containment this weekend. Earthquake shakes New Jersey and surrounding areas: USGS
NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — An earthquake shook parts of New Jersey and the surrounding areas Saturday night, according to the United States Geological Survey. PIX11 News received calls from viewers in Bloomfield, N.J., Westchester, N.Y., and Queens, reporting that they felt their beds and televisions shaking. More Local News The earthquake, which originated in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, was registered at around 10:18 p.m., according to the USGS. The magnitude registered at 3.0. 'NYCEM is monitoring and investigating reports of a citywide incident, possibly an earthquake,' read a social media post by the Deputy Mayor of New York City for Public Safety, Kaz Daughtry.
