John Cena vs. CM Punk at WWE Night of Champions 2025 in Saudi Arabia
WWE Night of Champions 2025 emanates from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Amid global tensions among the United States, Israel and Iran, there was a lot of doubt and speculation from the outside as to whether or not this card would even air.
On the inside, however, WWE no-sold the global conflict—which included missile strikes flying through the middle east. No announcers or wrestlers made any mention of the budding problems overseas that some feel may impact Saudi Arabia, which is close to Iran. With the unlikelihood of Saudi Arabia catching any kind of stray, WWE talent arrived in Riyadh this week with no incident.
WWE Night of Champions will feature two King and Queen of the Ring finals matches in addition to John Cena's latest WWE Championship defense against the always-polarizing CM Punk, whose art-imitating-life storyline centers around his past comments about WWE and Saudi Arabia. Because God-forbid anybody criticize a country where they also make money.

Sami Zayn Vs. Karrion Kross
Karri0n Kross continues to rise in popularity in WWE as his edgy-by-design act is making fans out of the internet wrestling community, whom Triple H and WWE are playing like fiddles through Kross' worked shoot promos online. WWE is using Sami Zayn to tell a long-term story of Zayn doing anything it takes to become champion. Usually, this is a spot where the popular babyface gets an easy win over Kross, but I think WWE is ready to pull the trigger on this character on TV with a win.
Rhea Ripley Vs. Raquel Rodriguez
Raquel Rodriguez is getting closer to Liv Morgan's opp Roxanne Perez, as the Liv Morgan Revenge tour has done a 180. Instead of Rhea Ripley being injured and ultimately losing Dirty Dom to Liv, Morgan is currently shelved and in danger of losing Dom—and her best friend Raquel—to Perez. Rhea Ripley is a monster favorite in this Street Fight, and while Raquel winning feels like the right choice, I don't think WWE has the stones to beat Ripley in this spot.
Jade Cargill Vs. Asuka
Jade Cargill has scratched and clawed her way to the Queen of the Ring finals, where she will face a returning Asuka. I can easily see a scenario where Jade wins, defeats Tiffany Stratton and loses to Naomi in a Money in the Bank Cash-In at SummerSlam. This would be a wise move because it would add a hill for Cargill to climb, thereby making her a more sympathetic babyface despite her muscular frame fit for a heel.
Randy Orton Vs. Cody Rhodes
Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes seemed like a world title match penciled in for either WWE Backlash or SummerSlam. But here we are. With so many babyfaces in WWE (Punk, Cody, Sami, Jey, Randy) one is set to turn heel this summer. Cody Rhodes recently suggested his babyface run was coming to an end, but that sounded like a Cody lie and a red herring.
I see Randy Orton and CM Punk turning heel before Cody does. For all we know, tonight might be the night for Orton in Saudi Arabia, which would give Cody something to do leading up to his world title match at SummerSlam.
Jacob Fatu Vs. Solo Sikoa
Jacob Fatu is flying up the ranks as WWE's top babyface, adding to an already crowded babyface roster. Solo Sikoa has shined as a heel, and one of the most underappreciated characters in all of WWE TV. This seems very early for A Fatu vs. Solo Sikoa match, and I'd be shocked if WWE ended Jacob Fatu's undefeated run during a daytime PLE (in the states).
John Cena Vs. CM Punk
WWE has done a great job of nuanced storytelling, with the Cena-Punk feud centering around and old tweet from CM Punk which led to hypocrites everywhere calling CM Punk a hypocrite. You know? Because CM Punk criticized a country for human rights violations, only to take a paycheck from that same country. Can you imagine? That'd be like using a smartphone despite all the human rights violations it took to make the battery. Who would do something like that?
Anyways, CM Punk seems to be leaning into the idea of Saudi fans booing him for his past comments. This could lead to one of WWE's much-needed heel turns to balance out the roster, but instead, I think Cena holds on as his polarizing march toward retirement soldiers on.

During Monday's episode of "Raw," Adam Pearce informed Styles that Mysterio isn't medically cleared for the match. Styles was promised a title shot once Mysterio is ready to return to action. Mysterio hasn't competed since the June 9 episode of "Monday Night Raw." He lost a fatal four-way King of the Ring match featuring Sami Zayn, who ended up winning the match, Bron Breakker, and Penta. Mysterio remains involved in backstage segments on "Raw." He even appeared on TV during Monday's episode of the red brand.
