But in today's episode actress Karen Blick made her long-awaited and surprise return as Lydia.
And she's explained why she was gone.
Walking into the cafe she ran into Joe Tate who made a crack about dusting to which Lydia swiftly shut him down.

And then reuniting with her friend Kim Tate, the pair slid into old habits.
Kim revealed to viewers that Lydia had been away caring for her mother who had fallen ill apparently.
Lydia told her: 'Well, she's back to bossing me about and giving me the running commentary on every last twinge.'
And she revealed that she wouldn't be back permanently - but leaving again on and off for her caring duties.
