Who scripted the reunion of Thackeray brothers?
A popular conspiracy theory was that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had something to do with the reunion. Reason: It would cut deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde to size. Several leaders from the ruling Mahayuti as well as the opposition Congress-NCP(SP) have been pointing out that the whole thing started after Fadnavis had a closed-door meeting with Raj Thackeray on June 12. Five days later, the government issued a revised GR on Hindi as third language that restarted the agitation against the decision. Thereafter, the Thackeray cousins planned separate rallies. Then Raj called up Sanjay Raut for a joint rally and what happened after that is public knowledge.
The reunion will mean a division of traditional Shiv Sena votes in the local body polls and could be a setback to the Shinde-led Sena. The move could also split the MVA as Congress does not want an alliance with Raj. In a triangular contest in local body polls in the state, BJP will be the winner, they say.
Another theory is that NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar advised the brothers to bury the hatchet pointing out that their outfits would become non-entities if Mahayuti wins big in the polls.
However, a couple of top leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT) camp as well as close aides of Raj Thackeray say the cousins communicated among themselves with the changes in circumstances and also due to pressure from their party cadre.
The actual process started after Raj's podcast in April in which he spoke about burying the hatchet with Uddhav.
While there are speculations on whether Raj really wants the alliance since he remained silent on the same, his aides say he would not have agreed to the reunion had he not been in favour of the alliance. 'His credibility is in question, he is seen as someone who can only split votes but can't win. He wants to put an end to this. And what better platform than a fight for Marathi?' they said.
*CM's podcast
A day after the Thackeray cousins' reunion in the name of Marathi asmita or Marathi identity, CM Fadnavis launched his podcast series, that too titled, 'Maharashtra Dharma'. In the 25-minute podcast, Fadnavis talks about Maharashtra's spiritual history and tradition of social reformers in conversation with Prof Sadanand More who comes from the family of Sant Tukaram. The timing of the podcast launch begs the question: was it meant to be released after the Thackeray brothers' show? CMO officials say the podcast was in the works and was meant to be released on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi, when thousands of devotees reach Pandharpur's temple of Lord Vitthal. In his first term, Fadnavis had a televised programme, 'Mi Mukhyamantri Boltoy' to connect with the people. In this term, he has opted for the flourishing podcast medium.
*Mungantiwar, the most vocal MLA

While his colleagues from the treasury benches are claiming that the senior legislator is bitter for not being inducted as a minister, Opposition legislators have been understandably encouraging him. Mungantiwar was a minister in the previous BJP-Sena government but did not find a ministerial berth in Fadnavis 2.0 government.
*Renaming plans dropped
The ruling BJP decided to quietly put to rest a demand made by its Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni to rename Pune railway station after Peshwa Bajirao. Last month, Kulkarni publicly demanded the renaming which led to several other sections putting forth other names--from social reformist Mahatma Jotiba Phule to Rajmata Jijabai, mother of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Maratha outfits like Sambhaji Brigade strongly objected to Bajirao's name. In an atmosphere where historical personalities are being divided on the basis of their castes, state BJP leaders were not keen on any new controversy over the renaming. Kulkarni was asked to keep quiet on the issue. As a statue of Peshwa Bajirao was unveiled by union home minister Amit Shah on Friday in Pune, there was no further noise over the renaming.

AAIB officials appear before House panel, say Air India crash report soon
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is learnt to have told a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Wednesday that it will make public its preliminary report on the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash in a couple of days. According to sources, the report is expected to provide the sequence of events before the accident that killed 260 people, a detailed description of the crash and the steps so far in the investigation, besides any notable findings that may have come to light. The House panel, headed by JDU RS MP Sanjay Jha, held its scheduled meeting Wednesday with the agenda 'to hear the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation on the 'overall review of safety in the civil aviation sector'. As many as 97 people are learnt to have deposed before the panel, among them top Ministry officials, including the secretary, AAIB officials, CEOs of the airlines operating in India, representatives of airport operators such as Adani and GMR and representatives of civil helicopter operators. Members of the panel cutting across party lines are learnt to have told the Ministry officials there is a pervasive sense of fear among fliers about aviation safety since the crash last month and urged the Ministry to come out with a report on how the incident happened. AAIB officials are learnt to have told the panel that the black box and voice recorder of the aircraft that crashed were intact and data was being investigated. Officials are learnt to have said that help of foreign players, including aircraft manufacturer Boeing, was also sought to carry out detailed and thorough investigations. During the meeting, the House panel is also learnt to have flagged an overloaded Air Traffic Control (ATC) system among other issues such as lacunae in civil helicopter operations. It is learnt that the committee discussed there was a paucity of staff at the ATC and that while in other countries ATC monitors the movement of 7 to 8 planes through one radar, in India there were as many as 30 planes on one radar. The panel is also learnt to have discussed staff shortage that ATC in India is facing apart from the vacancies in the DGCA. Aircraft accident investigations can be extremely complex and time consuming processes, taking months and in some cases even years to conclude. A more detailed identification and analysis of the most probable causes of the Ahmedabad crash is expected over the coming months. The AAIB-led investigation into the Ahmedabad crash is being assisted by representatives from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Boeing, and engine manufacturer GE. SSLC exam: KDA subcommittee to probe reasons for students' failure in Kannada paper
Dharwad: Expressing serious concern over the large number of students, particularly from govt schools, failing in Kannada language paper in SSLC examination, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has announced the formation of a subcommittee to study the issue and suggest remedial measures. Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday after a review meeting on the implementation of Kannada in governance, KDA chief Purushottam Bilimale described the situation as disastrous and said in Dharwad district alone, around 750 students had failed the Kannada language paper. "What is even more alarming is that a majority of these students are from govt schools," he rued. The subcommittee, comprising Kannada scholars and primary school teachers, will investigate the teaching/ learning methods of Kannada and suggest necessary reforms. "This is a matter of serious concern that touches upon the future of the state's language. The committee has been asked to submit its report within three months. Based on the findings, the KDA will recommend appropriate action to the education department," he added. In contrast, states like Tamil Nadu, where regional parties hold sway, find it easier to implement such policies," he said. Regarding the forthcoming State Education Policy (SEP), Bilimale said he had interacted with members of the policy drafting committee, including Niranjanaradhya and Baragur Ramachandrappa, and was confident that a two- language policy would be among their recommendations. "The real question, however, is whether the state govt will have the political will to adopt and implement it," he said. Clarifying his stance on Hindi, Bilimale noted, "We are not opposed to teaching Hindi. Our objection lies in the way it is being positioned, not merely as a language, but as a tool of power. Its imposition is part of a political agenda. To resist this, we must assert the primacy of Kannada. If we fail to do so, regional languages will be sidelined." Referring to the historic Gokak Movement, which sought primacy for Kannada in the state, Bilimale pointed out the significant role played by the Dharwad region. "Unfortunately, there is no memorial or institution that commemorates this contribution. We are recommending the establishment of a memorial at Gabbur Cross in Hubballi, which serves as the gateway to North Karnataka," he said. Bilimale said the KDA will conduct a detailed study on the funds crunch faced by various trusts and prevail upon govt to ensure proper funding.

‘Babua' agitated over exposure of loot,corruption under previous govt: Yogi
1 2 Gorakhpur/Azamgarh: Launching a veiled attack on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav over corruption in JPNIC project, Chief Minister Adityanath on Wednesday said "a CBI inquiry is ongoing into the project and that is why 'Babua' is furious about the exposure of loot and corruption". Although the CM didn't name the SP chief in his speech, the reference was obvious. Launching a massive plantation drive in the state by planting saplings in Gorakhpur, Ayodhya and Azamgarh, the CM attacked the previous SP govt and cited figures related to Purvanchal Expressway and JPNIC and said the revelation of corruption left 'Babua' that rampant corruption and loot was witnessed in the implementation of schemes before 2017, Yogi said: "The SP govt gave tender for the 341-kilometre-long and 110-metre-wide Purvanchal Expressway for Rs 15,200 crore. In contrast, the BJP's double-engine govt increased the width to 120 metres, re-tendered it, and reduced the cost to Rs 11,800 crore." "Those who engaged in corruption are now giving sermons. JP (Jayaprakash Narayan) was known for value-based politics and opposing nepotism, but the SP govt tarnished his name. During his visit to Azamgarh, where he planted a Harishankari Vatika along the expressway in Kerma village, Yogi issued a warning to anti-social and anti-national elements, asserting that the govt was taking decisive action against those involved in such activities. Citing the arrest of Chhangur Baba in Balrampur, who is accused of orchestrating mass conversions, the CM said, "We apprehended a criminal yesterday who was exploiting Hindu women. Such elements are now being dealt with sternly. We will not allow society to fragment. We will crush all anti-national and anti-social forces." Referring to the period before 2017, the CM said that large-scale deforestation and illegal mining by forest and mining mafias led to lawlessness and environmental degradation. "There was no development, only destruction. In contrast, our govt's initiative is transforming heatwaves into greenwaves. Azamgarh has sent many prominent leaders to Parliament but it was only after Nirahua became MP that expressways, a university in the name of Maharaja Suheldev, a music college, and extensive road networks became a reality," the CM said.
