Siemens Healthineers supports Manipal Hospice Therapy Block
The Manipal Hospice and Respite Care was inaugurated in May 2025 by the Honble Justice Shri S Abdul Nazeer, His Excellency the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, and was operational from June 2025.
The Therapy Block at MHRC is a 6,100-square-foot facility, which has been meticulously designed to provide comprehensive rehabilitative and supportive care, featuring dedicated spaces for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, mind-body therapy, speech and swallow therapy, home-based occupational therapy, and counseling. The Therapy Block aims to enhance the comfort, independence, and dignity of patients, addressing their physical, cognitive, and emotional needs.

Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre, a 100-bed facility spread over 12 acres, is the first hospice in India to be affiliated with both a hospital and a university. It is the second largest hospice in India and aims to serve both patients with cancer and non-cancer. This hospice offers respite care as well as end-of-life care for both adults and children.

12 schools, colleges fined in mosquito breeding checks
Ahmedabad: Monsoon being the time when cases of vector-borne diseases spike, the civic body has begun inspecting sites that could be hotbeds of mosquito breeding. Tuesday's inspections by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) covered 702 units across the city, including educational institutions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As many as 245 units including 12 eductional institutions were issued notices and slapped fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 for failing to take preventive measures against mosquito breeding. Teams from AMC's health department inspected 73 units in Central Zone, 38 in North Zone, 84 in East Zone, 151 in West Zone, 200 in South Zone, 85 in North West Zone, and 71 in SouthWest Zone. The highest number of notices - 56- were issued in the West Zone and fines imposed totalled Rs 75,000. As many as 15 units were penalised in the Central Zone, 27 were fined in the North Zone, 49 in the East Zone, 34 in the South Zone, 39 in the NorthWest Zone, and 25 in the SouthWest Zone. Mosquitoes were found breeding in water containers, on terraces, basements, overhead tanks, refrigerator trays, lift pits, open tanks, basements, and coolers. Heavy mosquito breeding was also discovered at construction sites in different areas. In the Lambha area, the Mahek construction site was fined Rs 25,000, the Gujarat Ion Exchange commercial construction site was penalised Rs 20,000, and a Swati construction site in Sarkhej was fined Rs 20,000. Units continuing to ignore preventive measures may be sealed, officials said.

Over 76000 road accident victims covered by Maha govt insurance scheme in a year
Nagpur: Over 76,000 road accident victims in Maharashtra were covered under the government's free health insurance scheme in the past year, according to information shared in the legislative council on Monday. The state has been implementing the integrated Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) since July 1, 2024. Under the scheme, eligible families receive Rs 5 lakh worth of medical coverage per year. It includes 1,356 medical procedures and also covers treatment for victims of road accidents. By July 1, a total of 76,215 accident victims had availed treatment under the scheme, the government stated. The Supreme Court's Road Safety Guidance Committee, in a directive dated March 29, 2022, had instructed states to ensure timely medical care for accident victims. Separately, the Union ministry of road transport and highways has announced the 'Road Accident Victim Insurance Treatment Scheme 2025'. Officials said that the implementation of the scheme is underway in Maharashtra, as per the operational guidelines received from the National Health Authority and the central government.

Aadhaar update alert: Child's Aadhaar not updated after age 7? UIDAI warns of deactivation
Children who were issued Aadhaar before turning five must update their biometrics once they cross the age of seven, or they risk having their Aadhaar deactivated, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said in an official statement. The UIDAI has started sending SMS notifications to the registered mobile numbers linked to such Aadhaar accounts, urging timely completion of the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU), PTI reported. 'Timely completion of MBU is an essential requirement for maintaining the accuracy and reliability of biometric data of children. If the MBU is not completed even after seven years of age, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated, as per the existing rules,' the UIDAI said. "As per existing rules, therefore, fingerprints, iris and photo are mandatorily required to be updated in his/her Aadhaar when the child reaches the age of five years. This is called the first Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU)," the statement said. What is the MBU? As per the rules, once the child reaches the age of five, their fingerprints, iris scan, and a new photograph must be updated in the Aadhaar database. This process is referred to as the Mandatory Biometric Update. Charges and access to services If the MBU is carried out between the ages of five and seven, it is free of cost. After the age of seven, the update carries a nominal fee of Rs 100. A UIDAI official pointed out that Aadhaar-linked services like school admissions, scholarship benefits, entrance exams, and DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) schemes may not work unless biometrics are updated. The UIDAI has advised parents and guardians to ensure timely updates to avoid disruption in services and maintain the seamless utility of Aadhaar.
