The Project announces shock 'return' in new format after being axed

Yahoo8 hours ago
The Project may have aired its final episode last week, but the Channel 10 current affairs program is continuing to live online. For the past few days, the show's Instagram account has been posting both Australian and international news headlines to its audience of 400,000 followers.
After receiving some confused comments from people questioning whether The Project was returning following its recent cancellation, the account shared a statement on Thursday evening to clarify the situation. They confirmed that while the show is no longer on air, the social team will continue to post about the news.

'So... I posted a few things. People noticed. Slightly more than I expected,' they wrote. 'Turns out, there's a lot of news. Whether it's serious stuff, the weird stuff, the did-that-actually-happen?! stuff. And I reckon we have enough to fill a few posts a day... and you seem to like it?
'So here's the deal: I post news, you read it, laugh, comment, maybe have a little existential crisis (optional), and we keep building a space that feels smart, sharp and not sad all the time. Sound good? Want more? Say the word. And if you don't... I'll just keep pretending you do, for my mental health.'
The announcement gained 11,000 likes in 12 hours, making it one of The Project's most popular Instagram posts in months. The post also received plenty of comments from its famous followers, including Colin Fassnidge, Matty 'J' Johnson, and Julie Goodwin.
'Love it!' Magda Szubanski wrote, followed by Rob Mills who said, 'I'm in.'.
'I am SO HERE FOR THIS!!' former host Lisa Wilkinson commented on another recent post, while The Project's producer Rove McManus joked, 'I don't know if I'm still paying for this, but I'm all for it'.
Julia Morris, Dannii Minogue and Georgia Love have also shown their support for the show's 'rebrand', with host Sarah Harris commenting, 'Here for it'.
Interestingly, Social Blade statistics show that The Project's Instagram account has gained 12,000 followers since the announcement last month that the show had been cancelled.
This comes shortly after it was announced that The Project presenter Georgie Tunny would be joining the network's brand-new current affairs program, 10 News+.
The show, hosted by Amelia Brace and Denham Hitchcock, premiered at 6pm on Monday and airs six days a week. Channel 10 announced in a statement on Thursday that Georgie will bring her passion for sport, news, and storytelling to the program, covering the biggest stories and events in Australia and around the world.

'I've always been a fan of news delivered differently and am excited to be staying with the 10 family. Can't wait to see where this new chapter leads!' she said.
Meanwhile, Waleed Aly and Sarah Harris have both left Channel 10 following The Project's cancellation, and Sam Taunton is expected to continue making guest appearances across the network's entertainment shows.

Michael Madsen remembered as 'mischief wrapped in tenderness'

Michael Madsen has been remembered as "mischief wrapped in tenderness" by his actress sister Virginia Madsen following his shock death. The 67-year-old actor was pronounced dead on Thursday (03.07.25) after being found unresponsive at his home in Malibu, California with his manager Ron Smith telling that 'cardiac arrest' appeared to be the cause of death - and he has now been honoured by Candyman star Virginia, who paid tribute in a message posted on Instagram. She shared a picture of the siblings alongside their mother and wrote: "My brother Michael has left the stage. He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. "A father, a son, a brother - etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark. We're not mourning a public figure. We're not mourning a myth - but flesh and blood and ferocious heart. "Who stormed through life loud, brilliant, and half on fire. Who leaves us echoes - gruff, brilliant, unrepeatable - half legend, half lullaby. "I'll miss our inside jokes, the sudden laughter, the sound of him. I'll miss the boy he was before the legend. I miss my big brother." Virginia went on to thank fans for their well wishes and explained a plan to "celebrate" Michael's life will be revealed in due course. She added: "Thank you to everyone reaching out with love and memory. In time, we'll share how we plan to celebrate his life. "But for now - we stay close, and let the silence say what words can't - Virginia Madsen on behalf of the Madsen family." Fellow screen star Sharon Stone shared her sorrow in the comments section, writing: "My sincere condolences to you and your family." Actor Billy Baldwin paid tribute in a message posted on X, writing: "Fitting that Michael Madsen would pass away on 4th of July weekend. He was no firecracker … a total stick of dynamite on screen and in life. Rest easy my friend." Walton Goggins, who appeared opposite Michael in Quentin Tarantino's 2015 movie The Hateful Eight, shared his thoughts on Instagram, writing: "Michael Madsen … this man … this artist … this poet … this rascal …F****** ICON …. "Aura like no one else. Ain't enough words so I'll just say this …. I love you buddy. A H8TER forever." In a post on X, Jennifer Tilly - who starred alongside the actor in 1994 movie The Getaway - wrote: "Michael was one of my favorite actors I ever worked with. "The Getaway was very early in my career and he made me feel safe and supported. He was wildly audacious and rambunctious with his character choices, and had a wicked sense of humor. "I don't recall ever laughing so much on a film set in my life. A huge talent. Gone too soon. Rip Michael Madsen."

This Golden Retriever & Toddler's Reunion Video Is One for the Books

The bond between dogs and kids is priceless. To reiterate the point, an Instagram video shows a Golden Retriever, Skylar, who cannot hold her excitement when she reunites with her toddler best friend. The reunion also brings joy to the kid, Shalom, as he cannot contain his excited shrieking voice. Explaining the familiar emotion in the caption, the owner wrote, 'Nothing beats coming home to your best friend.' In an adorable Instagram video, the reunion between a Golden Retriever named Skyler and a toddler named Shalom is one for the books. Anyone can witness the excitement and longing in their behavior and voices. Shalom expresses his emotions through giving toys and speaking to the dog in a shrieking voice. Skyler, on the other hand, cannot stop her wagging tail while patiently accompanying her best friend. The toddler's reunion with the Golden Retriever in the video begins with the two greeting each other through a glass door. While Skyler stands on her two feet and tries to open the door, Shalom attempts to push the door as he happily jumps with a big smile on his face. Once the 'besties' are inside, the canine becomes calm and stays close to the toddler. Further, Shalom continues to squeal and brings a ball for his best friend. As Skyler plays with the ball, the kid asks his parents for a dog bone. Then, Shalom finds something in Skyler's toy box and gives it to the fur baby. Once the latter accepts it, the toddler seems satisfied and calls the pooch 'Good Girl' multiple times. Viewers had a great time watching the Golden Retriever and toddler's reunion video. A user commented, 'I can't, both of them are so excited to see each other!' while another wrote, 'So much happiness.' One individual stated, 'Beyond adorable when Shalom compliments her for being a good girlie!' Netizens found the clip 'sweet' and referred to it as the 'happiest reunion' and 'overdose of Cuteness and love.' Since the upload, the Instagram reel has received over 18K likes.
