Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, ADG, BSF along with Ravi Kant, IG BSF called on the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan.During the meeting, the officers briefed the Governor on the overall security situation along the border, operational preparedness of the BSF in the region, and ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability.They also highlighted the ongoing coordination with state agencies and reiterated the BSF's commitment to maintaining peace and security.Along with other Central paramilitary forces, BSF troopers were deployed in Manipur since the ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3, 2023.On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Lok Sabha approved a resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur for another six months beyond August 13.In Manipur, at least 258 people have been killed and over a thousand people injured in the ethnic violence between the tribal Kuki-Zo and the non-tribal Meitei people since May 3, 2023. More than 60,000 people have been displaced from their homes and villages who are staying in relief camps in different districts.The ethnic violence between the non-tribals Meiteis and tribal Kuki-Zo broke out in the northeastern state on May 3, 2023, after a ' Tribal Solidarity March ' was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Central, State bodies in A.P. owe over ₹5,400 crore to urban local bodies in property taxes
The Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) has launched a rigorous campaign against property tax defaulters, targeting both Central and State institutions as well as private landowners. The action follows a statewide review meeting led by Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar, who underscored the urgent need to recover dues to improve municipal financial health. According to the department's latest data, the total outstanding tax dues across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) amount to approximately ₹5,480 crore. This includes ₹1,680 crore from Central institutions, ₹962 crore from State departments, ₹1,860 crore in Vacant Land Tax (VLT) arrears and ₹978 crore entangled in court cases. Among State institutions, the biggest defaulter is A.P.-Transco's 132KV Yard in Kalyanadurgam, which owes ₹2.56 crore. In Cheemakurthy, A.P. Social Welfare Gurukula Patasala owes ₹1.34 crore, while the Mandal Revenue Office there owes ₹26 lakh. Other State defaulters include the office of Executive Director of the Scheduled Caste Corporation in Kakinada with ₹27 lakh in arrears towards the Peddapuram ULB, and the Electrical Substation Office in Darsi, which owes ₹25 lakh. Collectively, these top five State institutions owe ₹4.68 crore. Defaulters among Central entities are even more prominent. The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL-Visakhapatnam) under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) alone owes the civic body a staggering ₹778 crore on vacant land and an additional ₹584 crore on non-residential properties tax, making it the largest tax defaulter in the State. Other Central bodies with substantial dues include office of the Development Commissioner of Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone, which owes ₹33 crore, the Visakhapatnam Port Trust with ₹22 crore and South Central Railway in Vijayawada with ₹13.51 crore. Together, these institutions owe the civic bodies ₹1,430.51 crore. The Principal Secretary has directed all municipal commissioners to issue statutory notices to these defaulters within a week. Additionally, the ULBs must publicly disclose the names and details of defaulting properties to initiate a more transparent enforcement process. Officials were also instructed to identify properties not yet captured in the tax network and place notice boards on-site to warn of imminent legal action if dues remain unpaid, especially regarding vacant land holdings.

Rahul Gandhi's ‘Arun Jaitley threat' claim triggers war of words between BJP and Congress
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Saturday (August 2, 2025) that former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was allegedly sent to threaten him over his position on the controversial farm laws triggered a war of words between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition Congress with the BJP fact-checking Mr. Gandhi over his claims. Congress leaders, however, pointed to meetings Mr. Jaitley had with Mr. Gandhi in 2015 and 2018. Mr. Jaitley said on X, 'Rahul Gandhi now claims my late father, Arun Jaitley, threatened him over the farm laws. Let me remind him, my father passed away in 2019. The farm laws were introduced in 2020. More importantly, it was not in my father's nature to threaten anyone over an opposing view. He was a staunch democrat and always believed in building consensus.' Irresponsible, says BJP Soon after, reactions poured in from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who called Mr. Gandhi the 'face of irresponsibility', Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and BJP leader B.L. Santosh, all of whom pointed out that Mr. Jaitley had passed away in 2019 while the farm laws were brought in 2020. Reacting to the controversy, Congress' media and publicity chief Pawan Khera said: 'Arun Jaitley ji did not threaten on his own; obviously, he was just conveying it. The threat came from above. When history will be written, many such accounts will be written. When the APMC amendment was being brought, was Arun Jaitley not there? When the land acquisition was coming, was Arun Jaitley not there at that time? He was at the forefront. I will also show you the news item when Arun Jaitley ji went to meet him in November 2015, January 2018, 22 January 2018, everyone has all these dates.' Reacting to Mr. Gandhi's claims, Ms. Sitharaman called the statements 'despicable', adding in a post on X, 'India needs a strong opposition party. An irresponsible leadership hurts his party @INCIndia and the country. But does he care?' While Mr. Santosh said 'only sick minds' could misrepresent things about people no longer with us, Mr. Sawant and Mr. Reddy called him out for 'dragging the name' of a deceased stalwart for 'selfish politics'. Mr. Khera told a news wire service: 'Let these BJP people jump around. BJP itself does our publicity. We are very happy about this. Let them do it.'
