Chic, ultra-curated and small-batch: how second-hand fashion is moving on from Vinted

Had enough of scrolling the tens of thousands of Vinted hits, in search for a new (old) treasure? Last month, a new luxury second hand platform launched which is not your average resale site. Called Francine and run by Amy Bannerman, who currently works as eBay's pre-loved style director, it's a much more curated approach. The number of items on sale are small: 10 to 20 items per collection, and they're all unique. The first 'drop' was a collection of gorgeous upcycled, vintage leather jackets that were hand-painted by artist Chiara Perano; the second is a collection of embellished Teva sandals.

We bought a bus off eBay and transformed it into our dream home... but living on the road has its downsides

A couple who bought a 20-year-old school bus off of eBay and transformed it into their dream home so they could travel the world full-time has lifted a lid on the ups and downs to their nomadic lifestyle. Shaquita Riley, 28, from Lincolnton, North Carolina, and Scott Heltz, 55, from New Orleans, Louisiana, bonded over their shared love of travel when they met in 2019. They quickly started dating, and six months later, they decided to purchase an old bus and convert it into a mobile home so they could set out and see the world together. 'I always loved traveling and dreamed of living in a bus. Scott knew he wanted to travel so it was a natural step,' Shaq explained during an exclusive chat with the Daily Mail. They bought the bus off eBay in June 2020 for $2,950, and they soon got to work on fixing it up. But turning a old rusty bus into a livable home wasn't easy, and the renovations took 'three long years' and cost them another $40,000. They took out the entire roof and raised it by 16 inches before replacing the entire interior. It now has a full kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, and running water, a living room area with a big couch and flat screen TV, a bathroom with a toilet and shower, a bedroom with a queen bed, and a storage space in the back. The renovations took 'three long years' and cost them another $40,000 They also added large RV windows, solar panels, multiple 200 gallon water tanks, and a Starlink satellite. In 2023, the couple, along with their two dogs and two cats, sold their home, quit their jobs, and 'officially hit the road.' They have now explored eight states, usually camping in state and national parks. 'We can stay off grid indefinitely or until we run out of water,' Shaq shared. But Shaq, who was going to school online for social psychology, confessed that living on the road and constantly moving around 'has its challenges.' 'For example, we did not have internet service in a lot of places and I had school and homework to do,' she explained. 'There are also challenges to parking a 40-foot bus in the city. Not to mention it's a magnet for thieves and law enforcement.' She also confessed that they sometimes 'fight,' adding, 'Things are not a fairytale. I like things a certain way while Scott's a bit "oh look a squirrel" kinda guy. It now has a sprawling full kitchen (left) with a stove, oven, microwave, and running water, and a living room area (right) with a big couch and flat screen TV The bathroom, seen here, has a toilet and shower There's also a bedroom with a queen bed (seen) and a storage space in the back 'Not to mention there are times we both need to use the toilet!' But she vowed that the space doesn't feel 'cramped' and that the upsides far outweigh the downsides. 'We have built our home entirely how we want it. 'Everything has a specific place and purpose,' she added. 'We get to see the world and travel. We have met some lifelong friends and have seen some incredible sights.' However, one of the hardest parts has been lack of income, since they both left their professions to live on the road, and they recently realized that their lifestyle is not practical for ever. So after two years of moving around they've decided it may be time for something more stable. They want to get some farm animals and use solar power and a well so they can be 'self-sufficient' like they are on the bus. Shaq now works as a care coordinator in the mental health field after finishing her bachelors and is about to start her masters in psychology, while Scott is an independent contractor and RV technician. And Shaq vowed that they still plan on using the bus to travel in their free time. 'We intend to build our own homestead on [the land],' shared Shaq. 'We want to be self-sufficient and not rely on traditional means of living. But we still plan on traveling and enjoying life together.'

I make £2k in a few days thanks to my ‘cool' side hustle – I get to meet loads of celebrities & anyone can do it

Chifae claimed that you aren't allowed to have your phone whilst working and must sign NDAs SCENE QUEEN I make £2k in a few days thanks to my 'cool' side hustle – I get to meet loads of celebrities & anyone can do it A YOUNG woman has shared all on her 'cool' side hustle that sees her make thousands of pounds in just a few days. Chifae, a 23-year-old woman from London, explained that with her job, not only does she make cash quickly, but she even gets to meet loads of celebrities too. 2 A 23-year-old has revealed that rather than a 9 to 5 job, she cashes in with a very unique side hustle Credit: tiktok/@chifou02 2 Chifae got candid on her line of work, which sees her work "long hours", whilst getting to meet loads of celebrities Credit: tiktok/@chifou02 And that's not even the best part - with this line of work, anyone can do it and no qualifications are needed. Eager to reveal more about how she earns a living, Chifae took to social media and explained that instead of a 9 to 5 job, she works as a film extra. In film and television, a film extra, also known as a background actor, is a performer who often appears in a non-speaking role, typically in the background of a scene. Film extras help create a sense of realism by populating scenes, whilst providing context for the main action. As Chifae filmed herself in the street, she beamed: 'If you live in London, this is your sign to start working as a film extra. 'I made almost £2,000 for just seven days of shooting and got to meet Tom Cruise and Rosamund Pike.' While Chifae is a film extra in London, and has even met Harry Styles whilst out and about in the city, many other major cities in the UK and around the world will also be looking for people to star in the background of scenes. For those in London, Chifae recommended the following casting agencies - Rachel's People, Key Castings, Universal Extras, Extra People, Entertainment Partners and Slick Casting. Chifae's TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @chifou02, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 179,700 views in just seven days. Not only this, but it's also amassed 18,300 likes, 212 comments and 2,952 saves. I earn cash by selling 'actual rubbish' on eBay - I flogged a freebie I found on the floor by a bin for £10, it's crazy Social media users were stunned by Chifae's unique side hustle and many were eager to 'learn' more about it and would 'love to know more.' One person said: 'I need to learn from you girl.' Another added: 'This is true, I miss being an extra.' Meanwhile, someone else beamed: 'I do the same and it's the best thing ever. They feed you good food like three times on shift as well. I once got paid the full date rate for three hours of work too.' Whilst another chimed in and claimed: 'I did this for years and even a body double role, was fun and was on set with many big names.' At the same time, one user begged: 'Can you send the agencies please.' You have to sign NDAs - you're not allowed to post pictures of sets or anything, they're very strict on that Chifae And another asked: 'Do you need professional pictures taken to apply?' In response, Chifae wrote back and confirmed: 'I have professional photos but a lot of people don't. You don't need them.' In a follow-up clip, Chifae then shared more on her job as an extra, as she claimed that it is often 'very long hours' and shifts usually start from 4am or 5am and can go on until 8pm. Do I need to pay tax on my side hustle income? MANY people feeling strapped for cash are boosting their bank balance with a side hustle. The good news is, there are plenty of simple ways to earn some additional income - but you need to know the rules. When you're employed the company you work for takes the tax from your earnings and pays HMRC so you don't have to. But anyone earning extra cash, for example from selling things online or dog walking, may have to do it themselves. Stephen Moor, head of employment at law firm Ashfords, said: "Caution should be taken if you're earning an additional income, as this is likely to be taxable. "The side hustle could be treated as taxable trading income, which can include providing services or selling products." You can make a gross income of up to £1,000 a year tax-free via the trading allowance, but over this and you'll usually need to pay tax. Stephen added: "You need to register for a self-assessment at HMRC to ensure you are paying the correct amount of tax. "The applicable tax bands and the amount of tax you need to pay will depend on your income." If you fail to file a tax return you could end up with a surprise bill from HMRC later on asking you to pay the tax you owe - plus extra fees on top. Although the hours are long, Chifae claimed that working as an extra is a great way to make 'a lot of money' as extras are paid 'very good extra money for the overtime.' She then added: 'You don't have access to your phone, so it's a good way also to make friends and meet people. 'You have to sign NDAs - you're not allowed to post pictures of sets or anything, they're very strict on that. 'But if you don't have a 9 to 5 and you wanna do this for fun or extra money, or just to gain some experience in film, it's a very good way to start because you meet a lot of people and you get to meet very famous actors, film directors and it's just a good experience.' Ozzy Osbourne fans cash in on star's death by selling 'free gift' from last gig

Opportunists are flogging personalised confetti from Ozzy Osbourne's final concert in Birmingham, which they picked up for free, following the Black Sabbath rocker's death Ruthless profiteers are exploiting Ozzy Osbourne's tragic passing by flogging branded confetti they scooped up at the Back To The Beginning gig. ‌ The confetti was blasted into the 40,000-strong audience at Villa Park, Birmingham, on July 5. Whilst numerous performers are known to shower confetti over crowds during shows, this had been customised to commemorate the event and is marginally larger than typical confetti. ‌ There are two distinct versions of the round paper pieces - one honouring Ozzy and the other paying tribute to his group Black Sabbath. Whilst one side features the appropriate logo, the reverse displays their name alongside the date and venue of the performance, plus the phrase "Birmingham Forever". ‌ Numerous concert-goers collected several bits of the confetti as keepsakes, and whilst some were flogging them before Ozzy's demise, many were giving them away free to fellow supporters once they sorted postage. ‌ The auction website eBay currently features countless adverts for the memorabilia. One vendor is demanding a staggering £208.68 for two bits of the confetti, which they're hawking alongside a poster from the concert, reports the Express. They don't specify the poster's dimensions, but it looks to be roughly A4 size or smaller, which would set you back about £10 to purchase and can be bought online on alternative sites for considerably less. One buyer is demanding £57.87 plus postage for a mere four pieces of the sought-after confetti, equating to nearly £15 per tiny piece of paper. The same seller is also offering two pieces for £26.67, or £13.33 each. A competing seller is offering four pieces, two of each design, for £31.88, which is nearly £8 per piece of the free confetti. ‌ Meanwhile, another seller is offering six pieces for £26.67 or £4.45 each. You can also snap up eight pieces for £28.76, or £3.60 each. One individual is only offering a single piece of the Black Sabbath confetti for £16.12. However, not all are attempting to fleece fans, with some turning the pieces into proper memorabilia. One creative individual has made a display featuring four pieces in a 4 x 6 frame, and they are asking for £21.48 plus postage. Another has transformed individual pieces into keyrings, selling them for £16.13 each. While still making a significant profit, at least you receive a useful item rather than just a tiny piece of paper. They weren't the only ones with this idea; a different user is selling a Black Sabbath confetti keyring for £21.48.
