'..anything can change' Texas A&M still in the thick of 2026 4-star Edge's recuitment

USA Todaya day ago
Texas A&M's 2026 edge class is in great shape with commitments from four-stars Jordan Carter and Samu Moala, and five-star Tristian Givens, while five-star Anthony "Tank" Jones recently included the Aggies in his final three program list. However, four-star edge rusher KJ Ford out of Duncanville (TX) also placed A&M in his final three program list, but the competition is fierce ahead of his announcement on Thursday, July 10.
Right now, Ford is favored to land with the Gators, but with six days remaining, it's anyone's game, as Ohio State and the Aggies are still in the thick of his recruitment. However, Elko and defensive line coaches Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie will need to pull out all the stops, which will include a strong NIL pitch, similar to Texas Tech's landing of five-star tackle Felix Ojo over Texas on Friday.
According to AggieYell recruiting insider Landyn Rosow, Florida will remain the favorite, but in today's college football landscape, anything is possible.
"Texas A&M has been making Ford a priority over the past few years, but over the past few months I've got the sense that these two parties are heading different directions, and the Gators have been trending behind scenes. My On3 RPM has reflected that. Now, there are still eight days until he makes his decision, and with how college football is, anything can change."
Ford has been one of the most productive defenders in Texas over the past two seasons, racking up 57 tackles, seven sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and 15 hurries during his 2024 junior season. Staying with Rosow's assessment, 247Sports' Mike Roach still believes that Texas A&M and Ohio State could be significant factors in the final days, given each program's recruiting momentum this summer.
According to 247Sports, Ford is currently positioned as the 98th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 11th-ranked edge, and the 16th-ranked prospect in Texas.

De Smith's upcoming book takes shots at Roger Goodell, Jerry Jones, Jeff Pash

Turf Wars, the upcoming book from former NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith, contains several blunt characterizations regarding some of the management folks with whom he did battle during his years on the job. Via Daniel Kaplan of the book has choice words for three of the folks he dealt with. Advertisement Smith describes Commissioner Roger Goodell as a "cold, dark void." As to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Smith says this: 'If Jerry Jones saw a dollar bill on the ground, I truly believe he'd stop and pick it up.' Then there's former NFL general counsel Jeff Pash. Smith calls Pash "definitely the most unscrupulous." "In a corporation filled with ruthless people, Pash has everyone else beat," Smith said. Ruthless or not, Pash gave life to the collusion grievance that was resolved earlier this year via a 61-page ruling by putting in writing things he should have discussed with Goodell verbally. The paper trail of emails from Pash to Goodell and Goodell to Pash made it clear that the NFL and the Management Council wanted the teams to collude when it comes to limiting guarantees in player contracts. Advertisement Turf Wars will be released on August 5. If/when we get an advance copy, we'll likely have plenty more to say about the contents of a book that seems to be far closer to scorched earth than smooched ass.

Cowboys Have Young 'Building Block' For Brian Schottenheimer

Cowboys Have Young 'Building Block' For Brian Schottenheimer originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When Cooper Beebe won the Dallas Cowboys' starting center role from Brock Hoffman last offseason, many were unsure how the guard would transition to being "the" guy along the offensive line. Advertisement Well, he was just fine. In fact, he is better than fine as Beebe handled everything thrown at him with aplomb, and now, with Brian Schottenheimer as the leading voice behind what we think will be a run-first offense, Beebe is expected to continue his ascension as part of his new-look, youthful offensive line. As such, Bleacher Report has named Beebe as Dallas' promising building block. "As a rookie last year, Beebe earned the starting job," Bleacher Report writes. "All-Pro guard Zack Martin retired. So, Dallas has a young trio on the interior of its offensive line. Tyler Smith is an established two-time Pro Bowler who can also line up at left tackle if Tyler Guyton continues to struggle as a starter. Tyler Booker is a rookie first-rounder who has to showcase his potential this year. Beebe could be the all-important centerpiece of that triumvirate." Advertisement (Scott Galvin-Imagn Images) We don't have to look back too far to see the benefits of having a foundational center being at the top of their game and how it helps the offense run, with Travis Frederick the main one who comes to mind (recently), so too Tyler Biadasz. Is Cooper the next one in line? Yeah, we think so. What's thrilling about where the Dallas O-line can go here is that while Beebe is a fine pick ... did we mention that Smith is a young All-Pro? Did we mention that Booker projects to be right there with him? But as for the center? After being so calm and steady in his rookie season, handling the checks at the line of scrimmage with Dak Prescott and then Cooper Rush, Beebe showed he could be the heartbeat of the offensive line. Advertisement And when you are that, you can be a franchise building block, which is exactly what we think Cooper has the potential to be. Trey Thompson comments on Iowa basketball commitment, reclassifying

In a massive recruiting win for Iowa basketball on Saturday, four-star forward Trey Thompson announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward out of Greeneville, Tenn., chose the Hawkeyes over offers from some powerhouse programs, including Tennessee, Purdue, Kansas, Clemson and Vanderbilt. Initially a 2026 recruit, Thompson announced he is reclassifying and will join the Hawkeyes this coming season. "To start, I want to take the time to thank God for always walking by my side and leading me down the right paths. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for always supporting me through my basketball endeavors. Extremely thankful for my parents for sacrificing so much for me to follow my dreams and passions. "With that being said, I have decided to re-classify up to the 2025 class and commit to the University of Iowa. Go Hawkeyes," Thompson wrote in his social media announcement. Thompson has averaged 21.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game on 56% shooting from the field, 45% from 3-point territory, and 81% from the free-throw line in his three varsity seasons from Greeneville High School, per his MaxPreps profile.
