Flood alert in Varanasi as Ganga in spate, ghats submerged: What is the situation now?
All the ghats of the Ganges n Varanasi are submerged and the riverside temples are waterlogged after continuous rainfall throughout past few days, reported PTI. Boating has been suspended, with the district administration advising locals and tourists to keep away from the ghats amid rising water level.

In Sambhal, Ganga is currently flowing at a water level of 177.60 metres. Speaking to ANI, Sambhal District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya stated that the district administration is on alert and has established 16 flood control posts. It has also identified 13 shelter homes in the affected areas.

In Prayagraj, the water of River Ganga, with its rising water level, entered the Bade Hanuman Mandir.
Earlier this month, continuous heavy rainfall triggered flood-like situation in Varanasi. The ghats and the adjacent temples were deluged as the Ganga' water level rose above the danger level. The Manikarnika Ghat was completely submerged, and a nearby temple was inundated. Ram Ghat in Prayagraj was also submerged.

Agency: PTI Chandigarh, Jul 21 (PTI) Rains lashed several parts of Punjab, including Chandigarh, leading to a dip in maximum temperatures on Monday. Clouds cover Delhi, rain in parts; yellow alert issued for thunderstorms
New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Clouds covered the national capital on Monday evening, with parts of the city receiving rain, officials said. A yellow alert has been issued for the next few hours, indicating a 'be aware' warning under the IMD's colour-coded alert system. In its latest nowcast, the weather department said light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely in a few areas of Delhi in the coming hours. Earlier in the day, under a cloudy morning sky, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius. The humidity at 8.30 am stood at 83 per cent. Meanwhile, the air quality in the city was recorded in the 'satisfactory" category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 77 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good", 51 and 100 'satisfactory", 101 and 200 'moderate", 201 and 300 'poor", 301 and 400 'very poor", and 401 to 500 'severe". Forest dept sounds alert over possible crocodile attacks in Odishas Kendrapara
Kendrapara (Odisha), Jul 21 (PTI) The forest department of Odisha has sounded an alert of possible attack from saltwater crocodile in certain villages in Kendrapara district following reports that reptiles were sighted in the adjoining Brahmani river which is in spate, officials said on Monday. The crocodiles are from the Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary's water-bodies and the reptiles often stray into the connected river system. The rise in water level has brought in its wake the crocodile menace, with reptiles reportedly on the prowl in the low-lying areas on the upper stream of the Brahmani river. 'A departmental alert has been sounded in villages that have come under partial flooding of the Brahmani river water," Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), Manas Kumar Das, said. The crocodiles may attack people in villages under Rajnagar, Pattamundai and Aul blocks, the forest official said. 'With the river in spate, there are reports of crocodiles straying into water bodies in and around the places of human habitation. We have warned the residents not to venture into the flooded river and adjoining water bodies," he said. Juvenile crocodiles used to stray in search of food and leave their original habitat.
