Iowa basketball lands Trey Thompson, will reclassify to 2025 class
The towering 6-foot-8, 220-pound native of Greeneville, Tenn., is listed as the No. 2 prospect in the state, No. 9 power forward, and No. 59 overall recruit in the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports.
Adding to the excitement, Thompson will also be reclassifying to the 2025 class, making him eligible for the 2025-26 campaign.
In his three seasons on the varsity squad at Greeneville High School, Thompson has averaged 21.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game on 56% shooting from the field, 45% from 3-point territory, and 81% from the free-throw line, per his MaxPreps profile.
Thompson chose Iowa over a list of other premier college basketball programs, which included Tennessee, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Clemson.
The commitment is a major step in the right direction for the program, as recruits are now viewing the Hawkeyes' program as a much more desirable destination under the new leadership and infusion of talent to the roster.
Here's a look at some of Thompson's recent highlights with the Tennessee Impact in the 2025 Adidas 3SSB:

UNC, Bill Belichick to be featured on Hulu
Get ready to see UNC and Bill Belichick on Hulu The North Carolina Tar Heels will officially begin the Bill Belichick era this fall as they prepare for their first season under the legendary coach. And now fans will get an inside look at Belichick and the program. With the news of a 'Hard Knocks' spinoff being shelved earlier in the spring, Friday brought some positive news on that front but in a different format. Front Office Sports is reporting that Belichick and the Tar Heels will be the subject of a new docuseries coming to Hulu sometime in 2025. The series will focus on Belichick's life as well as the Tar Heels' program who ushers in a new era with the addition of Belichick as head coach. Belichick and the program recently turned down the opportunity to be on "Hard Knocks" as the first ever college version of the show. He cited that the show was made for training camp while ono the Pivot Podcast with Ryan Clark per On3. 'Hard Knocks is training camp, and we're not training camp. We're just not,' Belichick said. 'That's not what we are. The drama of training camp, who's a cut and all that. Like, we're a season, and they don't want that. Yeah, there are film issues too, but forget about the film issues. Just say you could straighten all those out, Hard Knocks just didn't fit for us.' There is no official release date or name for the docuseries at the moment. UNC will kick off its season on September 1st as they host TCU in primetime. Raiders Have a Fearless QB in Geno Smith
The Las Vegas Raiders added their quarterback of the immediate future this offseason by trading for Geno Smith. Las Vegas sent the Seattle Seahawks a third-round pick to reunite Smith with Pete Carroll. The two enjoyed moderate success together for two seasons, reaching the playoffs in 2022. The Raiders have dealt with poor quarterback play since Derek Carr left in 2023, cycling through signal-callers and never finding an answer. General Manager John Spytek immediately found an answer to the team's most pressing need. Not only did the Raiders experience bad QB play last season, but Aidan O'Connell, Gardner Minshew II, and Desmond Ridder failed to create explosive plays. Smith will rectify that in 2025. The Raiders' previous quarterbacks were afraid to take risks and push the ball downfield. And when they did, bad things happened. Smith has a strong arm and confidence in his talent. He will be unafraid to take big risks if they lead to rewards. Pro Football Focus has a metric called 'big time throws,' graded as 'high-difficulty, high-value' passes. For example, if a quarterback is under pressure and he avoids that pressure and completes a pass into a tight window, that's a big-time throw. Smith made 28 big-time throws in 2024. Minshew, O'Connell, and Ridder combined for 21. Raiders fans will have to live with turnovers, as with risks come consequences. Smith led the NFL in red zone interceptions with five last season. However, with the bad comes lots of good. Smith is one of the best pure passers in the NFL, a much better processor and precision thrower than any of Minshew, O'Connell, or Ridder. There will be offensive heights with Smith that the Raiders never reached with their previous three quarterbacks. Smith raises the offense's floor, but he also elevates its ceiling. It is unknown just how many wins Smith will add to this Raiders team, but Las Vegas is unquestionably better because he is the starting quarterback. His fearlessness and ability to make difficult throws will endear him to fans quickly. The Raiders will be fun to watch this season, and Smith will be a large reason for that. Fans should be excited about what Smith will bring when it comes to explosive plays. Cowboys third-year bench guy is sleeper to find his way into starting lineup
It's almost a forgone conclusion that Terence Steele and Tyler Guyton will begin the 2025 season as the Dallas Cowboys starting offensive tackles. One is a first-round pick, and the other is the highest paid lineman on the roster. The Cowboys might not want to admit it, but money and draft pedigree play around these parts and these two players will be given every opportunity in 2025. The only problem here is neither of these offensive tackles are very good in pass protection. In fact, a case can be made they're downright terrible at it. With Guyton just 24 years old, that could definitely change in an instant, but both tackles struggled mightily with this portion of their jobs. As such, the man situated directly behind them has a lot to gain from a tumultuous preseason from the starters. Asim Richards, the back-up left tackle and a potential 2025 swing tackle, is another 24-year-old with upside. The former North Carolina product has been a steady contributor in Dallas, logging 220 offensive snaps over the past two seasons. Working primarily at LT, Richards is a direct alternative to Guyton. Guyton reportedly is having a great offseason but the same was said at this time last year so words of hype should be taken with a grain of salt. Guyton has all the physical skills be a solid LT in the NFL if he can just take a step in the head and heart department. Richards seemingly has the head and heart covered and has been showing steady gains from the physical side of things. He doesn't have the ceiling of Guyton but he offers a decent floor. His ability to set the floor likely contributed to Chuma Edoga leaving in free agency and offers Dallas a solid Plan B should Guyton falter. It's difficult to say if Richards is an option at right tackle. He's worked almost exclusively on the left and the Cowboys may want to focus the rookie Ajani Cornelius on that task opposite Richards. Steele is a good enough run blocker and extremely durable anyway, so it's likely Richard's best chances will come behind Guyton at LT. Guyton is someone everyone should be rooting for and the someone the coaching staff is encouraged to be patient with. His potential is undeniable and the rewards well worth some bumps in the road. But Richards is in a very, dare it be said 'awesome' situation as a backup coming to camp. He's a favorite for a top reserve role and he has a reasonable path to starting lineup. If he develops at the same rate he's been trending, he could be a starting quality OT by some point this year.
